Reading
A reading from the first book
of Samuel
Hannah conceived and gave
birth to a son, and called him
Samuel ‘since’ she said ‘I
asked the Lord for him.’
When a year had gone by,
the husband Elkanah went up
again with all his family to
offer the annual sacrifice to
the Lord and to fulfil his vow.
Hannah, however, did not go
up, having said to her
husband, ‘Not before the
child is weaned. Then I will
bring him and present him
before the Lord and he shall
stay there for ever.’
When she had weaned him,
she took him up with her
together with a three-year old
bull, an ephah of flour and a
skin of wine, and she brought
him to the temple of the Lord
at Shiloh; and the child was
with them. They slaughtered
the bull and the child’s
mother came to Eli. She said,
‘If you please, my lord.
As you live, my lord, I am the
woman who stood here
beside you, praying to the
Lord. This is the child I
prayed for, and the Lord
granted me what I asked him.
Now I make him over to the Lord
for the whole of his life. He is
made over to the Lord.’ There she
left him, for the Lord.
The Word
of the Lord
Thanks be to God.
They are happy who
dwell in your house,
O Lord.
The Psalm
How lovely is your dwelling place,
Lord, God of hosts. My soul is
longing and yearning, is
yearning for the courts of the
Lord. My heart and my soul ring
out their joy to God, the living
God. The Psalm
They are happy who
dwell in your house,
O Lord.
The Psalm
They are happy, who dwell in your
house, for ever singing your
praise.
They are happy, whose strength is
in you, in whose hearts are the
roads to Zion.
The Psalm
They are happy who
dwell in your house,
O Lord.
The Psalm
O Lord God of hosts, hear my
prayer,
give ear, O God of Jacob.
Turn your eyes, O God, our shield,
look on the face of your
anointed.
The Psalm
They are happy who
dwell in your house,
O Lord.
The Psalm
The Second
Reading
A reading from the first letter of
St John
Think of the love that the
Father has lavished on us,
by letting us be called God’s
children;
and that is what we are.
Because the world refused to
acknowledge him,
therefore it does not
acknowledge us.
My dear people, we are
already the children of God
but what we are to be in the
future has not yet been
revealed;
all we know is, that when it is
revealed
we shall be like him
because we shall see him as
he really is.
My dear people,
if we cannot be condemned
by our own conscience,
we need not be afraid in
God’s presence,
and whatever we ask him,
we shall receive,
because we keep his
commandments
and live the kind of life that he
wants.
His commandments are
these:
that we believe in the name of
his Son Jesus Christ
and that we love one another
as he told us to.
Whoever keeps his
Commandments lives in God
and God lives in him.
We know that he lives in us
by the Spirit that he has given
us.
The Word
of the Lord
Thanks be to God.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia praise God!
Open our heart, O Lord,
to accept the words of your
Son.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia praise God!
Gospel Acclamation
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
A Reading from the holy Gospel
according to Luke.
Glory to you, O Lord.
The Gospel
Every year the parents of
Jesus used to go to
Jerusalem for the feast of
the Passover. When he was
twelve years old, they went
up for the feast as usual.
When they were on their way
home after the feast, the boy
Jesus stayed behind in
Jerusalem without his
parents knowing it. They
assumed he was with the
caravan, and it was only
after a day’s journey that
they went to look for him
among their relations and
acquaintances. When they
failed to find him they went
back to Jerusalem looking
for him everywhere.
Three days later, they found
him in the Temple, sitting
among the doctors, listening
to them, and asking them
questions; and all those who
heard him were astounded
at his intelligence and his
replies. They were overcome
when they saw him, and his
mother said to him,
‘My child, why have, you
done this to us? See how
worried your father and I
have been, looking for you.’
‘Why were you looking for
me?’ he replied ‘Did you not
know that I must be busy
with my Father’s affairs?’
But they did not understand
what he meant.
He then went down with
them and came to Nazareth
and lived under their
authority. His mother stored
up all these things in her
heart. And Jesus increased
in wisdom, in stature, and in
favour with God and men.
The Gospel of the Lord
Praise to you, Lord
Jesus Christ.
I believe in God, the Father
almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only
Son, our Lord,
The Apostles’
who was conceived by the
Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
The Apostles’
was crucified, died and was
buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again
from the dead;
The Apostles’
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right
hand of God the Father
almighty;
The Apostles’
from there he will come to
judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
The Apostles’
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen
The Apostles’
Prayer of the Faithful
Celebrant: God sent his Son into our
world as a helpless child who
needed the warmth and protection of
a human family. In our helplessness
we turn to him in prayer.
1. Let us ask God to bless the Church,
our Christian family, both in this parish
and throughout the world; that we may
witness to his life-giving presence by
the kind of lives we lead, and the work
that we do. Lord, hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
2. We pray for the leaders of nations;
may they enact laws and pursue policies
which protect family life.
Lord, hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
3. Let us pray for all families,
especially those experiencing
difficulties; may the prayers of the Holy
Family help to unite them in love.
Lord, hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
4. We pray for all children at risk from
parents or relatives; all those born
prematurely; all who are handicapped,
and for their families, that they may not
be like sheep without a shepherd, but
may be lovingly cared for and tended by
God. Lord, hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
5. We pray for those who have
departed this life, that all families may
be reunited in the glory of God's
kingdom.
Lord hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
6. In silence, we put our own needs
before our loving Lord, especially those
intentions mentioned in our Book.
Mary, wife of Joseph and Mother of Our
Lord, we ask that you join with the
prayers of the whole human family, as
we say:
Hail Mary, full of grace. The
Lord is with thee. Blessed
art thou among
women, and blessed
is the fruit of
thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother
of God, pray for us
sinners, now and
at the hour of our
death. Amen.
Celebrant: Father, you sent your Son
into the human family to bring about
the work of redemption. Help us to
appreciate all that you have done for
us. We ask this through Christ our
Lord.
1. Hark the herald angels
sing, glory to the new– born
King; peace on earth and
mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled;
joyful all ye nations rise,
join the triumph of the skies,
with the angelic–host
proclaim, Christ is born in
Bethlehem.
Hark, the herald Angels
sing, glory to the new–
born King,
2. Christ, by highest heaven
adored,
Christ, the everlasting Lord,
late in time behold him come,
offspring of a Virgin’s womb!
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see,
hail the incarnate Deity!
Pleased as man with man to
dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel.
Hark, the herald Angels
sing, glory to the new–
born King,
3. Hail the heaven – born Prince
of Peace!
Hail the Son of righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
risen with healing in his wings,
mild he lays his glory by,
born that man no more may die,
born to raise the sons of earth,
born to give them second birth.
Hark, the herald Angels
sing, glory to the new–
born King,
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
for through your goodness we have
received the bread we offer you: fruit of
the earth and work of human hands, it will
become for us the bread of life.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins
of the world: have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins
of the world: grant us peace.Fraction of the Bread
Behold the Lamb of God, behold
him who takes away the sins of
the world. Blessed are those
called to the supper of the
Lamb.
Invitation to Communion
All: Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under
my roof, but only say the
word and my soul shall be
healed.
Invitation to Communion
Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin, mother and child
Holy infant, tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night, Holy night
Shepherds quake, at the sight
Glories stream from heaven above
Heavenly, hosts sing Hallelujah.
Christ the Saviour is born,
Christ the Saviour is born.
Silent night, Holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord at thy birth
Jesus, Lord at thy birth.
Father, slow to anger, abounding in
mercy, You see us and run to us
when we are far away from you, you
find your way to us when we cannot
find our way to you, you are always
faithful when we are unfaithful.
Jesus Christ, you entered
the house of sinners, you
sat at the table of the
poor, you mounted the
Cross, you throne of
mercy.
Holy Spirit, you pour your
healing gifts over our
wounds, you anoint us to
bring good news to the
poor, you send us out as
missionaries of mercy.
God of Mercies, have
mercy on us, so that where
sin abounds your grace
may abound all the more,
and we shall become like
you, Merciful. Amen.
Bring those you refresh with this
heavenly Sacrament, most merciful
Father, to imitate constantly the example
of the Holy Family, so that, after the trials
of this world, we may share their
company for ever. Through Christ our
Lord. All: Amen
Prayer after communion
The Lord be with you.
All: And with your spirit.
Final Blessing
May almighty God bless you,
the Father, and the Son,
and the Holy Spirit.
All: Amen.
Final Blessing
The mass is ended, go in peace
and proclaim the Gospel of the
Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.
Dismissal
Go tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and
everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born
While shepherds kept their
watching, O'er silent flocks
by night, Behold throughout
the heavens, there shone a
holy light
Go tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and
everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born
And lo, when they had seen
it, they all bowed down and
prayed, they travelled on
together to where the Babe
was laid.
Go tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and
everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born
When I was a seeker
I sought both night and day
I sought the Lord to help me
And He showed me the way.
Go tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and
everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born
He made me a watchman
Upon the city wall
And If I am a Christian
I am the least of all.
Go tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and
everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born

  • 21. O God, who were pleased to give us the shining example of the Holy Family, graciously grant that we may imitate them in practising the virtues The Collect
  • 22. of family life and in the bonds of charity, and so, in the joy of your house, delight one day in eternal rewards. The Collect
  • 23. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit one God, for ever and ever. All: Amen The Collect
  • 25. A reading from the first book of Samuel Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son, and called him
  • 26. Samuel ‘since’ she said ‘I asked the Lord for him.’ When a year had gone by, the husband Elkanah went up again with all his family to
  • 27. offer the annual sacrifice to the Lord and to fulfil his vow. Hannah, however, did not go up, having said to her husband, ‘Not before the
  • 28. child is weaned. Then I will bring him and present him before the Lord and he shall stay there for ever.’ When she had weaned him,
  • 29. she took him up with her together with a three-year old bull, an ephah of flour and a skin of wine, and she brought him to the temple of the Lord
  • 30. at Shiloh; and the child was with them. They slaughtered the bull and the child’s mother came to Eli. She said, ‘If you please, my lord.
  • 31. As you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you, praying to the Lord. This is the child I prayed for, and the Lord
  • 32. granted me what I asked him. Now I make him over to the Lord for the whole of his life. He is made over to the Lord.’ There she left him, for the Lord.
  • 33. The Word of the Lord Thanks be to God.
  • 34. They are happy who dwell in your house, O Lord. The Psalm
  • 35. How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord, God of hosts. My soul is longing and yearning, is yearning for the courts of the Lord. My heart and my soul ring out their joy to God, the living God. The Psalm
  • 36. They are happy who dwell in your house, O Lord. The Psalm
  • 37. They are happy, who dwell in your house, for ever singing your praise. They are happy, whose strength is in you, in whose hearts are the roads to Zion. The Psalm
  • 38. They are happy who dwell in your house, O Lord. The Psalm
  • 39. O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer, give ear, O God of Jacob. Turn your eyes, O God, our shield, look on the face of your anointed. The Psalm
  • 40. They are happy who dwell in your house, O Lord. The Psalm
  • 42. A reading from the first letter of St John Think of the love that the Father has lavished on us,
  • 43. by letting us be called God’s children; and that is what we are. Because the world refused to acknowledge him,
  • 44. therefore it does not acknowledge us. My dear people, we are already the children of God but what we are to be in the
  • 45. future has not yet been revealed; all we know is, that when it is revealed we shall be like him
  • 46. because we shall see him as he really is. My dear people, if we cannot be condemned by our own conscience,
  • 47. we need not be afraid in God’s presence, and whatever we ask him, we shall receive, because we keep his
  • 48. commandments and live the kind of life that he wants. His commandments are these:
  • 49. that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and that we love one another as he told us to. Whoever keeps his
  • 50. Commandments lives in God and God lives in him. We know that he lives in us by the Spirit that he has given us.
  • 51. The Word of the Lord Thanks be to God.
  • 52. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia praise God! Open our heart, O Lord, to accept the words of your Son. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia praise God! Gospel Acclamation
  • 53. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. A Reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke. Glory to you, O Lord. The Gospel
  • 54. Every year the parents of Jesus used to go to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went
  • 55. up for the feast as usual. When they were on their way home after the feast, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem without his
  • 56. parents knowing it. They assumed he was with the caravan, and it was only after a day’s journey that they went to look for him
  • 57. among their relations and acquaintances. When they failed to find him they went back to Jerusalem looking for him everywhere.
  • 58. Three days later, they found him in the Temple, sitting among the doctors, listening to them, and asking them questions; and all those who
  • 59. heard him were astounded at his intelligence and his replies. They were overcome when they saw him, and his mother said to him,
  • 60. ‘My child, why have, you done this to us? See how worried your father and I have been, looking for you.’ ‘Why were you looking for
  • 61. me?’ he replied ‘Did you not know that I must be busy with my Father’s affairs?’ But they did not understand what he meant.
  • 62. He then went down with them and came to Nazareth and lived under their authority. His mother stored up all these things in her
  • 63. heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom, in stature, and in favour with God and men.
  • 64. The Gospel of the Lord Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
  • 65.
  • 66. I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, The Apostles’
  • 67. who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, The Apostles’
  • 68. was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; The Apostles’
  • 69. he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; The Apostles’
  • 70. from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, The Apostles’
  • 71. the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen The Apostles’
  • 72. Prayer of the Faithful
  • 73. Celebrant: God sent his Son into our world as a helpless child who needed the warmth and protection of a human family. In our helplessness we turn to him in prayer.
  • 74. 1. Let us ask God to bless the Church, our Christian family, both in this parish and throughout the world; that we may witness to his life-giving presence by the kind of lives we lead, and the work that we do. Lord, hear us All: Lord graciously hear us
  • 75. 2. We pray for the leaders of nations; may they enact laws and pursue policies which protect family life. Lord, hear us All: Lord graciously hear us
  • 76. 3. Let us pray for all families, especially those experiencing difficulties; may the prayers of the Holy Family help to unite them in love. Lord, hear us All: Lord graciously hear us
  • 77. 4. We pray for all children at risk from parents or relatives; all those born prematurely; all who are handicapped, and for their families, that they may not be like sheep without a shepherd, but may be lovingly cared for and tended by God. Lord, hear us All: Lord graciously hear us
  • 78. 5. We pray for those who have departed this life, that all families may be reunited in the glory of God's kingdom. Lord hear us All: Lord graciously hear us
  • 79. 6. In silence, we put our own needs before our loving Lord, especially those intentions mentioned in our Book.
  • 80. Mary, wife of Joseph and Mother of Our Lord, we ask that you join with the prayers of the whole human family, as we say:
  • 81. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
  • 82. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
  • 83. Celebrant: Father, you sent your Son into the human family to bring about the work of redemption. Help us to appreciate all that you have done for us. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
  • 84.
  • 85. 1. Hark the herald angels sing, glory to the new– born King; peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled;
  • 86. joyful all ye nations rise, join the triumph of the skies, with the angelic–host proclaim, Christ is born in Bethlehem.
  • 87. Hark, the herald Angels sing, glory to the new– born King,
  • 88. 2. Christ, by highest heaven adored, Christ, the everlasting Lord, late in time behold him come, offspring of a Virgin’s womb!
  • 89. Veiled in flesh the Godhead see, hail the incarnate Deity! Pleased as man with man to dwell, Jesus, our Emmanuel.
  • 90. Hark, the herald Angels sing, glory to the new– born King,
