25. A reading from the first book
of Samuel
Hannah conceived and gave
birth to a son, and called him
26. Samuel âsinceâ she said âI
asked the Lord for him.â
When a year had gone by,
the husband Elkanah went up
again with all his family to
27. offer the annual sacrifice to
the Lord and to fulfil his vow.
Hannah, however, did not go
up, having said to her
husband, âNot before the
28. child is weaned. Then I will
bring him and present him
before the Lord and he shall
stay there for ever.â
When she had weaned him,
29. she took him up with her
together with a three-year old
bull, an ephah of flour and a
skin of wine, and she brought
him to the temple of the Lord
30. at Shiloh; and the child was
with them. They slaughtered
the bull and the childâs
mother came to Eli. She said,
âIf you please, my lord.
31. As you live, my lord, I am the
woman who stood here
beside you, praying to the
Lord. This is the child I
prayed for, and the Lord
32. granted me what I asked him.
Now I make him over to the Lord
for the whole of his life. He is
made over to the Lord.â There she
left him, for the Lord.
34. They are happy who
dwell in your house,
O Lord.
The Psalm
35. How lovely is your dwelling place,
Lord, God of hosts. My soul is
longing and yearning, is
yearning for the courts of the
Lord. My heart and my soul ring
out their joy to God, the living
God. The Psalm
36. They are happy who
dwell in your house,
O Lord.
The Psalm
37. They are happy, who dwell in your
house, for ever singing your
praise.
They are happy, whose strength is
in you, in whose hearts are the
roads to Zion.
The Psalm
38. They are happy who
dwell in your house,
O Lord.
The Psalm
39. O Lord God of hosts, hear my
prayer,
give ear, O God of Jacob.
Turn your eyes, O God, our shield,
look on the face of your
anointed.
The Psalm
40. They are happy who
dwell in your house,
O Lord.
The Psalm
52. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia praise God!
Open our heart, O Lord,
to accept the words of your
Son.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia praise God!
Gospel Acclamation
53. The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
A Reading from the holy Gospel
according to Luke.
Glory to you, O Lord.
The Gospel
54. Every year the parents of
Jesus used to go to
Jerusalem for the feast of
the Passover. When he was
twelve years old, they went
55. up for the feast as usual.
When they were on their way
home after the feast, the boy
Jesus stayed behind in
Jerusalem without his
56. parents knowing it. They
assumed he was with the
caravan, and it was only
after a dayâs journey that
they went to look for him
57. among their relations and
acquaintances. When they
failed to find him they went
back to Jerusalem looking
for him everywhere.
58. Three days later, they found
him in the Temple, sitting
among the doctors, listening
to them, and asking them
questions; and all those who
59. heard him were astounded
at his intelligence and his
replies. They were overcome
when they saw him, and his
mother said to him,
60. âMy child, why have, you
done this to us? See how
worried your father and I
have been, looking for you.â
âWhy were you looking for
61. me?â he replied âDid you not
know that I must be busy
with my Fatherâs affairs?â
But they did not understand
what he meant.
62. He then went down with
them and came to Nazareth
and lived under their
authority. His mother stored
up all these things in her
63. heart. And Jesus increased
in wisdom, in stature, and in
favour with God and men.
64. The Gospel of the Lord

Jesus Christ.

138. Go tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and
everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born
139. While shepherds kept their
watching, O'er silent flocks
by night, Behold throughout
the heavens, there shone a
holy light
140. Go tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and
everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born
141. And lo, when they had seen
it, they all bowed down and
prayed, they travelled on
together to where the Babe
was laid.
142. Go tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and
everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born
143. When I was a seeker
I sought both night and day
I sought the Lord to help me
And He showed me the way.
144. Go tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and
everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born
145. He made me a watchman
Upon the city wall
And If I am a Christian
I am the least of all.
146. Go tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and
everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born
