The Collect
The First
Reading
A reading from the book of
Joshua.
The Lord said to Joshua,
‘Today I have taken the
shame of Egypt away from
you.’
The Israelites pitched their
camp at Gilgal and kept the
Passover there on the
fourteenth day of the month,
at evening in the plain of
Jericho. On the morrow of the
Passover they tasted the
produce of that country,
unleavened bread and
roasted ears of corn, that
same day. From that time,
from their first eating of the
produce of that country,
the manna stopped falling.
And having manna no longer,
the Israelites fed from that
year onwards on what the
land of Canaan yielded.
The Word
of the Lord
Thanks be to God.
Taste and see
that the Lord is
good.
The Psalm
I will bless the Lord at all times, his
praise always on my lips; in the
Lord my soul shall make its
boast. The humble shall hear and
be glad.
The Psalm
Taste and see
that the Lord is
good.
The Psalm
Glorify the Lord with me. Together
let us praise his name. I sought
the Lord and he answered me;
from all my terrors he set me
free.
The Psalm
Taste and see
that the Lord is
good.
The Psalm
Look towards him and be radiant;
let your faces not be abashed.
This poor man called, the Lord
heard him and rescued him from
all his distress.
The Psalm
Taste and see
that the Lord is
good.
The Psalm
The Second
Reading
A reading from the second
letter of St Paul to the
Corinthians
For anyone who is in Christ,
there is a new creation; the
old creation has gone, and
now the new one is here. It is
all God’s work. It was God
who reconciled us to himself
through Christ and gave us
the work of handing on this
reconciliation. In other
words, God in Christ was
reconciling the world to
himself, not holding men’s
faults against them, and he
has entrusted to us the news
that they are reconciled. So
we are ambassadors for
Christ; it is as though God
were appealing through us,
and the appeal that we make
in Christ’s name is: be
reconciled to God.
For our sake God made the
sinless one into sin, so that
in him we might become the
goodness of God.
The Word
of the Lord
Thanks be to God.
Praise to you, O Christ, king of eternal glory!
I will leave this place and go to my
father and say: ‘Father, I have sinned
against heaven and against you.’
Praise to you, O Christ, king of eternal glory!
Gospel Acclamation
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
A Reading from the holy Gospel
according to Luke.
Glory to you, O Lord.
The Gospel
The tax collectors and the
sinners were all seeking the
company of Jesus to hear
what he had to say, and the
Pharisees and the scribes
complained. ‘This man’ they
said ‘welcomes sinners and
eats with them.’ So he spoke
this parable to them:
‘A man had two sons.
The younger said to his
father, “Father, let me have
the share of the estate that
would come to me.” So the
father divided the property
between them. A few days
later, the younger son got
together everything he had
and left for a distant country
where he squandered his
money on a life of
debauchery.
‘When he had spent it all,
that country experienced a
severe famine, and now he
began to feel the pinch, so
he hired himself out to one of
the local inhabitants who put
him on his farm to feed the
pigs. And he would willingly
have filled his belly with the
husks the pigs were eating
but no one offered him
anything. Then he came to
his senses and said,
“How many of my father’s
paid servants have more
food than they want, and
here am I dying of hunger! I
will leave this place and go
to my father and say: Father,
I have sinned against heaven
and against you; I no longer
deserve to be called your
son; treat me as one of your
paid servants.” So he left the
place and went back to his
father.
‘While he was still a long
way off, his father saw him
and was moved with pity. He
ran to the boy, clasped him
in his arms and kissed him
tenderly. Then his son said,
“Father, I have sinned
against heaven and against
you. I no longer deserve to
be called your son.” But the
father said to his servants,
“Quick! Bring out the best
robe and put it on him; put a
ring on his finger and
sandals on his feet. Bring the
calf we have been fattening,
and kill it; we are going to
have a feast, a celebration,
because this son of mine
was dead and has come back
to life; he was lost and is
found.”
And they began to celebrate.
‘Now the elder son was out
in the fields, and on his way
back, as he drew near the
house, he could hear music
and dancing. Calling one of
the servants he asked what it
was all about. “Your brother
has come” replied the
servant “and your father has
killed the calf we had
fattened because he has got
him back safe and sound.”
He was angry then and
refused to go in, and his
father came out to plead with
him; but he answered his
father, “Look, all these years
I have slaved for you and
never once disobeyed your
orders, yet you never offered
me so much as a kid for me
to celebrate with my friends.
But, for this son of yours,
when he comes back after
swallowing up your property
– he and his women – you
kill the calf we had been
fattening.”
‘The father said, “My son,
you are with me always and
all I have is yours. But it was
only right we should
celebrate and rejoice,
because your brother here
was dead and has come to
life; he was lost and is
found.”’
The Gospel of the Lord
Praise to you, Lord
Jesus Christ.
I believe in God, the Father
almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only
Son, our Lord,
The Apostles’
who was conceived by the
Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
The Apostles’
was crucified, died and was
buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again
from the dead;
The Apostles’
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right
hand of God the Father
almighty;
The Apostles’
from there he will come to
judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
The Apostles’
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen
The Apostles’
Prayer of the Faithful
Celebrant: Lord God, our light and
our salvation, help us to speak to
others of our joy and consolation
in your presence. Secure in your
love we pray for all our needs.
1. We pray for Francis our Pope, and
for the whole family of the Church. May
all Christians remember that they are
brothers and sisters in Christ, and so
learn to live in harmony with one
another. Lord hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
2. We pray for people who are
searching for meaning and true
happiness in their lives; may we help
them to discover Christ as the one who
will fulfil their needs.
Lord hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
3. On this Mothering Sunday we pray for all
mothers, may they always experience joy and
love from their children. We pray especially
for mothers and children who are separated
from each other by distance, bereavement or
estrangement. Lord hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
4. We pray for ourselves, that
through repentance and the
sacrament of Reconciliation, we
experience afresh God's mercy, grace
and healing. Lord hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
5. We pray for those who find
themselves in difficult situations far
from their homes. We pray for the sick
and those who care for them, for the
unemployed, the homeless, the
widowed and orphaned. Lord hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
6. We pray for those departed from
this life; may all families be reunited
in the Kingdom of God.
Lord hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
7. In silence, let us remember that
God sent his Son to redeem us. Let us
place our prayers in His hands,
especially those mentioned in our
Intentions Book.
On this special day for Mothers, let us
turn to Christ's own Mother, asking
that she lay our prayers before her
beloved Son, as we say:
Hail Mary, full of grace. The
Lord is with thee. Blessed
art thou among
women, and blessed
is the fruit of
thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother
of God, pray for us
sinners, now and
at the hour of our
death. Amen.
Celebrant: Father, you created us in
love with the gift of free will. Give us
the grace to live in your light, and to
stay clear of illusions and self-
deception. We ask this through Christ
our Lord, Amen.
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
for through your goodness we have
received the bread we offer you: fruit of
the earth and work of human hands, it will
become for us the bread of life.
All: Blessed be God for ever.

  • 3. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen We Gather
  • 4. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. All: And with your spirit. We Gather
  • 5.
  • 6. …Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy …Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy …Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy Penitential act
  • 7. May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. All: Amen. Penitential act
  • 8. O God, who through your Word reconcile the human race to yourself in a wonderful way, grant, we pray, that with prompt devotion and eager faith the Christian people may hasten toward the solemn celebrations to come. The Collect
  • 9. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. All: Amen The Collect
  • 11. A reading from the book of Joshua. The Lord said to Joshua, ‘Today I have taken the
  • 12. shame of Egypt away from you.’ The Israelites pitched their camp at Gilgal and kept the Passover there on the
  • 13. fourteenth day of the month, at evening in the plain of Jericho. On the morrow of the Passover they tasted the produce of that country,
  • 14. unleavened bread and roasted ears of corn, that same day. From that time, from their first eating of the produce of that country,
  • 15. the manna stopped falling. And having manna no longer, the Israelites fed from that year onwards on what the land of Canaan yielded.
  • 16. The Word of the Lord Thanks be to God.
  • 17. Taste and see that the Lord is good. The Psalm
  • 18. I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise always on my lips; in the Lord my soul shall make its boast. The humble shall hear and be glad. The Psalm
  • 19. Taste and see that the Lord is good. The Psalm
  • 20. Glorify the Lord with me. Together let us praise his name. I sought the Lord and he answered me; from all my terrors he set me free. The Psalm
  • 21. Taste and see that the Lord is good. The Psalm
  • 22. Look towards him and be radiant; let your faces not be abashed. This poor man called, the Lord heard him and rescued him from all his distress. The Psalm
  • 23. Taste and see that the Lord is good. The Psalm
  • 25. A reading from the second letter of St Paul to the Corinthians For anyone who is in Christ,
  • 26. there is a new creation; the old creation has gone, and now the new one is here. It is all God’s work. It was God who reconciled us to himself
  • 27. through Christ and gave us the work of handing on this reconciliation. In other words, God in Christ was reconciling the world to
  • 28. himself, not holding men’s faults against them, and he has entrusted to us the news that they are reconciled. So we are ambassadors for
  • 29. Christ; it is as though God were appealing through us, and the appeal that we make in Christ’s name is: be reconciled to God.
  • 30. For our sake God made the sinless one into sin, so that in him we might become the goodness of God.
  • 31. The Word of the Lord Thanks be to God.
  • 32. Praise to you, O Christ, king of eternal glory! I will leave this place and go to my father and say: ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.’ Praise to you, O Christ, king of eternal glory! Gospel Acclamation
  • 33. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. A Reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke. Glory to you, O Lord. The Gospel
  • 34. The tax collectors and the sinners were all seeking the company of Jesus to hear what he had to say, and the Pharisees and the scribes
  • 35. complained. ‘This man’ they said ‘welcomes sinners and eats with them.’ So he spoke this parable to them: ‘A man had two sons.
  • 36. The younger said to his father, “Father, let me have the share of the estate that would come to me.” So the father divided the property
  • 37. between them. A few days later, the younger son got together everything he had and left for a distant country where he squandered his
  • 38. money on a life of debauchery. ‘When he had spent it all, that country experienced a severe famine, and now he
  • 39. began to feel the pinch, so he hired himself out to one of the local inhabitants who put him on his farm to feed the pigs. And he would willingly
  • 40. have filled his belly with the husks the pigs were eating but no one offered him anything. Then he came to his senses and said,
  • 41. “How many of my father’s paid servants have more food than they want, and here am I dying of hunger! I will leave this place and go
  • 42. to my father and say: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you; I no longer deserve to be called your son; treat me as one of your
  • 43. paid servants.” So he left the place and went back to his father. ‘While he was still a long way off, his father saw him
  • 44. and was moved with pity. He ran to the boy, clasped him in his arms and kissed him tenderly. Then his son said, “Father, I have sinned
  • 45. against heaven and against you. I no longer deserve to be called your son.” But the father said to his servants, “Quick! Bring out the best
  • 46. robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the calf we have been fattening, and kill it; we are going to
  • 47. have a feast, a celebration, because this son of mine was dead and has come back to life; he was lost and is found.”
  • 48. And they began to celebrate. ‘Now the elder son was out in the fields, and on his way back, as he drew near the house, he could hear music
  • 49. and dancing. Calling one of the servants he asked what it was all about. “Your brother has come” replied the servant “and your father has
  • 50. killed the calf we had fattened because he has got him back safe and sound.” He was angry then and refused to go in, and his
  • 51. father came out to plead with him; but he answered his father, “Look, all these years I have slaved for you and never once disobeyed your
  • 52. orders, yet you never offered me so much as a kid for me to celebrate with my friends. But, for this son of yours, when he comes back after
  • 53. swallowing up your property – he and his women – you kill the calf we had been fattening.”
  • 54. ‘The father said, “My son, you are with me always and all I have is yours. But it was only right we should celebrate and rejoice,
  • 55. because your brother here was dead and has come to life; he was lost and is found.”’
  • 56. The Gospel of the Lord Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
  • 57.
  • 58. I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, The Apostles’
  • 59. who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, The Apostles’
  • 60. was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; The Apostles’
  • 61. he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; The Apostles’
  • 62. from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, The Apostles’
  • 63. the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen The Apostles’

  • 72. 7. In silence, let us remember that God sent his Son to redeem us. Let us place our prayers in His hands, especially those mentioned in our Intentions Book.
  • 73. On this special day for Mothers, let us turn to Christ's own Mother, asking that she lay our prayers before her beloved Son, as we say:
  • 74. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
  • 75. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
  • 76. Celebrant: Father, you created us in love with the gift of free will. Give us the grace to live in your light, and to stay clear of illusions and self- deception. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
  • 77.
  • 78. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you: fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life. All: Blessed be God for ever. Presentation and preparation of the
