Objectives
Weatherford’s Slickplug non-
profile plug successfully hung
and isolated Excelflo thru-
tubing screens across the
perforations, saving the
operator the cost of costly
workover operations.
• Return an offshore well to production. The well had been shut
in for 2-1/2 years as a result of high sand production.
• Install thru-tubing sand screens on slickline. The operator
wanted to avoid the cost of a workover or a coiled-tubing or
electric-line approach. The standard separation sleeve could
not be used, as there was no sliding side door across the
perforations and the nipple profile was about 344 ft (105 m)
from the perforations.
• Weatherford used a Slickplug™ non-profile plug to
successfully hang and isolate Excelflo® thru-tubing screens
just across the perforations.
• The bottomhole assembly consisted of the Slickplug tool, the
screens, a GS-type pulling tool, stem bar, and mechanical jar.
The pulling tool was used to set the Slickplug tool at the
required depth, overcoming the operational challenge
presented by the length of the assembly and providing the
operator with slickline-set solution.
