• Efficiently run and ream a 9 5/8-in. casing string to total depth (TD)
in an appraisal well.
• Overcome sticky wellbore issues to reduce nonproductive time
(NPT). While running a previous 13 3/8-in. casing string through a
18 5/8-in. shoe, sticking issues forced the client to pull out the
casing string, perform an unplanned wiper trip, and rerun the
casing string—losing time in the process.
• Weatherford’s Total Depth services engineering team
collaborated during the project planning stages and used
TADPro® torque-and-drag software to detect possible tight holes.
• The OverDrive top-drive casing-running system, featuring the
TorkDrive™ Compact ICT-TS tool, was deployed with rig-up times
significantly improved over previous jobs that used
conventional equipment.
• A DiamondBack™ casing reamer shoe enabled the operator to
ream the open hole and clear the path for casing, while the
SpiraGlider™ centralizers reduced frictional forces and centralized
the casing in the wellbore.
• The TorkDrive tool enabled the operator to ream through the tight
spots at 35 rpm, circulate with 1,000 psi (6.89 MPa) at
8,425 ft (2,568 m), and successfully pass the obstruction.
• For the first time in MENA, the operator used the OverDrive
system to run the mudline hanger, successfully wash down the
mudline-hanger joint with eight tons of push-down force, and land
it in the wellhead, eliminating the need to pull the string again.
• The operator set the casing at a TD of 16,102 ft (4,908 m),
completing the job with average running speeds of 10 joints per
hour and average cased-hole running speeds of 12 joints per hour.
• The entire operation was completed without incident, enhancing
client satisfaction.
