Cause And Effect Essay On Unemployment
Money is an important component that can help ones to function properly in this society. However, money defines our self–worth and value in this
society. For decades, unemployment has become a big issue in our community. The younger generation are the one who suffers the most from the
crisis. In 2009 alone, 6.7 million youths joined the ranks of the unemployed, and compare this with an average annual increase of 191,000 in the 10
years before the crisis 1997 to 2007(Elder,2010). Youth unemployment is a crucial issue in our society. Unfortunately, a lot of young people are going
through that situation. When it comes to find a job, young people are the less fortunate for many reasons. For instance, some employers might be
biased on ages and believes that young people do not have skills or enough experiences to perform at the level required for the jobs. The problem of
youth unemployment has many causes and consequences in our society. Youth unemployment can affect the economy, family relationship, increase
crime rates and, mental health. In 1990, Unemployment rate went up to 5.6 percent. According to statisma.com, Unemployment rate drop 0.7 percent
in 2016 due to the effort of President Barack Obama (Statista, 2017).When there is a large amount of people who are unemployed, the economy and

Causes of Unemployment
In Malaysia, the unemployment rate is considered low compared to the early years such as 1986 where the unemployment rate reached as high as
7.6%. Today the unemployment rate is still affected by many factors and in order to make sure it doesn't reach as high as before, we need to find out
the causes of unemployment so that we can provide a solution to the cause of it.
Foreign labor force with lower wage or salary
Redundant workers and fresh graduates with qualifications for their respective job sectors searches for jobs with acceptable wage or salary. This
will delay their ability to work period resulting in firms that need labor to be desperate and start demanding for foreign labor force with low wage or

Lack of experience and skill of fresh graduates
Nowadays, employers would rather employ workers with experience and skills compared to one without both. This factor lead us to the
unemployment of fresh graduates that have just step into the labor force. Generally, most organizations prefer to employ graduates with experience.
Furthermore, in Malaysia, the private sector today is not interested in recruiting local graduates because they lack essential skills, such as proficiency
in English and interpersonal skills (Nor Hartini, 2007) and also lack of ICT proficiency. According to the Minister of Human Resources, more than
65% female graduates in this country are unemployed because they are lack of social communication skills in addition to a poor command of language
and low levels of self confidence. He added, although many of the female graduates had achieved excellent academic results but could not secure
employment without the relevant skills required in the labor market. The following breakdown refers only to the 20,217 who have registered
themselves with the Ministry of Human Resources, and does not include those who haven't bothered with the Ministry.
This shows the graduate students that is still not employed until now.

Essay on Causes of Unemployment
The unemployment rate slowly started getting worse and it may have hit all time lows. With unemployment rates soaring the causes of this are
from aging, teenagers, and outsourcing even though some refute with saying it is self inflicted. One of the things that cause unemployment to
keep increasing is the age of people. Seeing as there is almost no family not affected by this great recession, there must have been a cause. "You are
aging as you are not employed, and nobody is looking to hire somebody who is old," (Aaronson, pg. 6). When older people are laid off they keep aging
and there are young kids coming out of college looking for the same job. Every single year more and more kids are graduating from college with
degrees and the...show more content...
Since, they are in school; it is very hard to have a job with the amount of credit hours that kids will be taking. These kids also don't have a degree
just yet and they are trying to compete for the same jobs as adults that have experience in the field and also have a degree from college already.
"Youth unemployment may have hit bottom and could increase in coming months and years," (Miller, 4th paragraph). The reason that the youth
unemployment could be going up in the future is because the old adult percentage of people working is going down and they are starting to hire
more teens and young adults. This is helpful to help hire more of the younger population but, this does not solve overall unemployment. The reason
that there is a high unemployment rate is because some of the work is leaving the country. This is the act that is called outsourcing. "China is
expanding," (Long terms, pg. 10). With China expanding it gives the U.S. more of a chance that they give their work to China or a different country.
The reason that we give our work away to other countries is because other countries such as China can complete the work for almost half of the cost
and sometimes even cheaper than that. "Overall economy is shrinking," (Aaronson, pg. 3). This is what happens when outsourcing is happening. As
long as outsourcing is happening our U.S. economy only has one thing to do and that is to shrink. The reason that it is shrinking is because businesses
large and small are

Unemployment And Its Effects On A Population
You may ask yourself, what is unemployment? Why is it so important? and how does it affect my everyday life? A common misunderstanding that I
have encountered throughout the time of my research of the subject is the difference between the term unemployment which refers to people who
are out of a job but are prepared to work and unemployment in the sense of a welfare aid to those who are out of a job. I will be speaking to you
today on the definition of unemployment, the types of unemployment, the consequences of unemployment and what can be done about
unemployment. The unemployed can be defined as those people able, available and willing to work but cannot find a job despite an active search for
work. Unemployment means that scarce human resources are not being used to produce goods and services to meet peoples changing needs and
wants. Intense amounts of unemployment can have traumatizing effects on a population. Important key terms to remember when talking about
unemployment are: Claimant Count: The number of people who claim unemployment related benefits. Labor Force Survey: People who actively
seeking for work regardless of whether they claim benefits or not, Long Term unemployment: Those who remain unemployed for at least a year.
Labor Force: Quantity of individuals who are of working age and are able and willing to work. Full employment: When there are enough job
vacancies for all the unemployed to take work. Discouraged worker: Those who have been out of

Cause And Effect Of Unemployment
Unemployment is a major issue that our government often has to deal with. It can bring serious downfall towards our society and the economy.
Unemployment is described as a situation when an individual is willing to work and actively seeking for a job but remains un–hired. There are four
main types of unemployment – structural, frictional, cyclical and seasonal. In this presentation, I will discuss the causes and effects of unemployment.
I hope you will get a clear idea on how unemployment can affect society in years to come.
Structural unemployment occurs when an individual does not have the required skills, or has skills that are not needed, to gain employment within an
industry. This type of unemployment is usually impacted by consumer demand. A common cause of this form of unemployment is the advancement of
technology. An example is seen in supermarkets where self–service checkouts replace store clerks.
Cyclical unemployment is another form of unemployment that results when there is a decline in growth and production within the business cycle. When
consumer demand declines, employers will lay off employees that are not needed. Only fewer employees are required to meet the lower standard of
production volume. For example, an auto maker company loses consumer demand. Employers will lay off some of their auto workers because only a
fewer number of employees would be able to manufacture a lower production of cars.
Frictional unemployment is the time period of an individual

Social And Economic Causes Of Unemployment
Unemployment is a phenomenon that occurs when a person who is actively searching for employment is unable to find work. It is the failure of
obtaining employment to earn wages or salaries paid in money. When there are more resources used for production and no man power, this will lead to
a waste of economic resources and loss of goods and services. Unemployment has tremendous social and economic costs through all economies. It is the
direct and indirect cause of many social and economic problems. In capitalist economies, families and individuals are responsible for earning, or
providing, with whatever material and tools they have in their disposal. In all industrialized and developing economies, most workers do not have the
ability to provide for the means of survival on their own, but instead must obtain their needs by selling their own power of labour into the market.
Without selling themselves into the working environment, individuals may face financial insecurity that can soon result into poverty and indebtedness.
This may also cause different kinds of criminal activity around the world due to an individual's struggle on becoming employed. Although employment
can be attained, a capitalist economy has problems in having an individual maintain full employment because of the ongoing structural and
technological changes. This includes changes such as supply in labor and the supply of natural resources. An economy running at full capacity and
employment would be unable to

Essay on Unemployment Cause and Effect
Unemployment – Causes I am going to offer my theory as to the real cause of unemployment, for every cause there is an effect. The process of cause
and effect. It's hard to live a normal healthy life without a job and money. There are many reasons why people are unemployed, but in turn this state
of unemployment can cause one to experience financial, emotional, and personal problems. The most common causes of unemployment are getting
fired and laid off for specific reasons. People might get laid off if a company is going out of business or maybe if there are positions in the company
that are no longer needed. It's difficult to find a job right away after being fired. Companies don't want to hire someone who...show more content...
If someone gets into a car accident and gets physically injured long–term or becomes disabled, it becomes difficult to do many types of job. In the setup
of a modern market economy, there are many factors, which contribute to unemployment. Causes of unemployment are varied and it may be due to
the following factors: * Rapid changes in technology * Recessions * Inflation * Disability * Undulating business cycles * Changes in tastes as well
as alterations in the climatic conditions. This may in turn lead to decline in demand for certain services as well as products. * Attitude towards
employers * Willingness to work * Perception of employees * Employee values * Discriminating factors in the place of work (may include
discrimination on the basis of age, class, ethnicity, color and race). * Ability to look for employment Unemployment at any given point of time may be
either due to one of the factors mentioned above or a combination of several factors. It has also been observed that if the labor market in the economy
does not work in an optimum manner, it leads to unemployment. There are other factors, which point at the tempo of an economic activity in a region.
Household Survey Data: The number of unemployed persons, at 14.0 million, was essentially unchanged in September, and the Unemployment rate
was 9.1 percent. Since

Causes and Effects of Unemployment Travis Epling Strayer University ENG 105 Jeanette Trammel 9/14/14 Causes and Effects of Unemployment
There are many reasons for unemployment in the United States and around the world. Some of these causes are created by the individual and others
are out of their control. No matter what the cause for unemployment, it has a devastating effect on the individual, family, and economy.
Unemployment defined by the Encyclopedia Britannica is the condition of one who is capable of working, actively seeking work, but is unable to
find any work. In addition, to define a person as unemployed, the person must be an active member of the labor force in search of work. (Encyclopedia
Britannica, 2012)...show more content...
Monetary Effects Because unemployed people receive benefits from the government, there is a correlation between unemployment and increased
government spending. The Employment Act of 1946 gave the government the responsibility of maintaining a high employment level of labor and
price stability. The effects of this increased spending for unemployment benefits is that other government programs suffer a loss in their financial
support. It also causes a decrease in the growth of the GDP. There are less people working so less goods and services are being produced and with
fewer people to spend money in the economy there are less goods and services being purchased. This causes a decrease in demand of products and
causes producers to lower their selling price to avoid a surplus. When the producer lowers their selling price, it causes the consumer price index to
fall. Social Effects Various social effects spring from the people who are unemployed. They affect both our communities and the unemployed. The
skills and knowledge from the unemployed is lost to our economy which keeps our economy from reaching its full potential. There is also an increase
in crime and social strife during times of high unemployment. Bruce Weinberg, associate professor of economics at Ohio State University, Eric Gould,
Hebrew University, and David Mustard, University of Georgia conducted a study of the national crime rates between 1979 and 1997 and found a
direct correlation in falling wages

Employment is an activity or the like that occupies a person 's time. Unemployment on the other hand can be simply defined as when a person in
search of "employment" or "job" is unable to find employment or work. It is also said to be when an individual of working age seeking a job is
unable to obtain any. Unemployment is a criteria used to diagnose the health of a country's economy health. It is a big challenge the country
Nigeria has battled with for years now and has maintained a rising trend over the years. The standard of living of Nigerians deteriorate more every
passing day, week, month, and year due to the rapidly increasing rate of unemployment in Nigeria. There are various causes of unemployment in
Nigeria such as; Low standard of education, corruption, lack of steady power supply, high rate of tribalism, total neglect of the agricultural sector,
lack of skills, poor morals, poor planning by the government, poor mechanisation, fraud, war and the list goes endless. All these points affect the
countries employment rate in many ways than we know it. The case of low standard of education can be considered the key factor responsible for
unemployment in the sense that, the educational system of Nigeria is a mess and at a state of chaos and disaster due to factors like; malpractice and
insufficient funding etc. Seeing that the world is developing into a global community, many jobs today require some what level of education ranging

Unemployment And Its Effects On Society
Everyone in this world needs to have job or money in order to survive. In the current situation, there are still tons of people all around the globe
without a job and money, who struggles to live a healthy life. The person who is available for work, yet he or she does not have any opportunities
is called unemployed. When we think of unemployment, we directly refer to a person without a job or "jobless". However, we do not consider
what were the causes of that situation? Or what was the result? Unemployment has always been a social scourge. It is crucial to understand the
causes and effects of unemployment because it can happen to almost anyone in this globe. Also, it is equally important to resolve this issue before it
rises at a higher level else it can lead to a rise in illiteracy, poverty, and underemployment. The population growth, technological advancement, job
requirements, and economic loss have provoked unemployment and in turns unemployment has far ranging effects on society. One of the major
causes for unemployment is the rising population. In the last few decades, there is a gigantic amount of increase in population rate in every country.
This leads us to a situation where for every job opportunities, there are several people qualified for it and deciding to acquire it. However, only few
people are selected and the rest of them remain unemployed. The overpopulation has also increased the demand for resources and to satisfy those
demands, there is a rapid

Empirical research aims to decompose causes of unemployment into those that changed equilibrium and those that caused demand–deficient
unemployment. A potential explanation of a rise in the equilibrium unemployment is a rise in the generosity of unemployment benefit relative to wages
in work. Therefore people spend longer periods of time unemployed in search for the 'right' job, thus leading to a rise in equilibrium unemployment.
(Begg, 2008, p. 530)
In economics, the neoclassical view is that the government should not intervene with the market–that is, the optimal economic structure is a free
market. Therefore, the a neoclassical economist would argue that unemployment is often caused by the government who makes it difficult for
employers to fire employees, which causes employers to hesitate employing new workers thus resulting to an increase in unemployment rates. (Bryan's
blog)
As the Napoleonic Wars finished in 1815, the economy was followed by a recession and unemployment. Thomas Malthus (1766–1834) was the first to
identify a lack of effective demand as the problem – the warehouses were full but people would not buy. However, David Ricardo (1772–1823)
disagreed with Malthus about the lack of effective demand. Instead he argued that unemployment was due to the wages being too high: if people
would accept lower wages they would find work. (Dobson, 1999, p. 176)
John Maynard Keynes (1883–1946) argued, like Malthus, that this unemployment was primarily due to a failure of

All over the world there is poverty within the communities. Poverty is a big problem when it comes to unemployment. Some people only rely on
government assessment for example food stamps, unemployment checks, Medicare, WIC, etc. There are ways to better your life and get off of
government assessment. You can find ways to get a job and work your way off of government assessment. As you read more of the paper we will
be discussing different unemployment. What really causes unemployment? Is it because of people being lazy or college kids are just getting into
the real world and cannot seem to get a job. Many people struggle to find jobs to provide for their families. Jodi Beggs (2014) in her blog discuss
voluntary, involuntary, frictional, and cyclical unemployment. There is always an cause and effect that tend to happen within life. Some people may
be laid off which causes them to be unemployed. Unemployment leads to poverty within American because people do not have to funds to servicf. All
unemployment is not the same although it do cause poverty. Voluntary unemployment tend to focus on the people wanting to move job to job (Beggs,
2014). J. Singh (2014) says it best when he stated that, "Voluntary unemployment refers to a situation when persons who are able to work but are not
willing to work although suitable work is available for them." Would this way of doing be considered lazy or not a smart move on their behalf?

Unemployment is a situation that occurs when people are without employment and actively seeking work. The measure of the prevalence of the rate
of employment is known as unemployment rate. The International Labor Organization defines unemployment rate as a percentage of the total
workforce. The total work force comprises of individuals who want to or waiting to start work. This excludes those who are disabled or retired. There
are various causes of employment such as a reduction in aggregate demand and failure of the labor market to provide jobs. Unemployment affects
individuals and the economy. The effects of unemployment on the individual include depression and loss of human capital. Its effects on the economy
are a rise in inflation and economic recessions (Broman, Hamilton & Hoffman, 1990).

Unemployment can be caused by a reduction in aggregate demand or the failure of the labor market to absorb the existing work force. The effect of
unemployment includes social deprivation and affects the physical, mental and psychological well–being of the individual. Additionally unemployment
has a negative effect on the economy such as a reduction in the production capacity of an economy and loss of human capital.

Tackling Youth Unemployment
The Challenge
Among the world's unemployed, young people have been particularly hard hit. Youth unemployment rates are significantly higher than adult
unemployment rates in both developed and developing countries. Global protest movements of young people are a manifestation of their lack of job
prospects.
On the one hand, higher youth unemployment can simply result from frequent job changes and short intermediate unemployment spells. It may be
natural for young people to switch jobs more frequently before a good match with an employer is achieved.
On the other hand, high youth unemployment can result from deeply rooted problems, such as a lack of relevant education and training, rigid labor
markets and...show more content...
UK and Welsh Government Initiatives
In the United Kingdom, youth unemployment is currently around 20% and the Welsh and UK governments have started to work together on a joint
initiative aimed at getting more young people into work. Welsh Secretary, David Jones and First Minister, Carwyn Jones recently attended a Jobs
Summit in Newport, Gwent where employers and organisations such as Jobcentre Plus were invited along to discuss different ways of offering more
work experience, internships and apprenticeships for young people.
One of the problems that was highlighted was not so much the lack of help out there for getting graduates and young people into work but the fact that
there were so many separate initiatives amongst the different government bodies, young people are no longer sure what help is available to them. The
Jobs Summit discussed ways of getting more coordination and communication so that different governmental departments, employers from local
businesses and young people are aware of what resources are available to them.
In a recent BBC interview, director of the Job Centre Plus network in Wales, Martin Brown, said, "Every young person deserves a chance to get that
first step onto the job ladder. If you have no experience, if you have nobody to give you a reference or act as

Causes Of Unemployment Essay
Unemployment is one the major economic problems which are affecting most of the countries in the world especially the developing countries.
Unemployment is a phenomenon where a person is actively searching for employment, but they are unable to find it. There are two immediate factors
causing unemployment, which include voluntary and involuntary unemployment. Voluntary unemployment majorly arises as a result of an individual
leaving the current job to search for another work. This unemployment may result when an individual is no longer satisfied with the working
conditions, salary or the current position isn't matching the skills. Involuntary unemployment majorly arises when an individual is laid off and is

This issue results in the graduating students being stranded to find a job since, even if there are companies and business opportunities being created, it
will be difficult to match the massive demand for jobs. Government policies can also contribute to unemployment. Privatization of the companies is
one of the major factors that can lead to joblessness in a country. When the country decides to privatize a company, it majorly leads to the retrenchment
of the workers unto which results in involuntary unemployment. The Government may come to this decision to as a result of poor performance of the
company and privatization majorly improves the company's performance. Policies such as the ones that aims at preventing foreign investments also
leads to joblessness since, it inhibits establishment of companies and businesses that would create employment for the citizens. Structural change is
also another primary causative agent of joblessness in a country. This unemployment occurs as a result of changes in the labor patterns, natural
disasters and the changes in the resource availability. One of the significant cases is when the available resources or raw materials get depleted. This
results in the individual who was employed losing their jobs leaving them unable to fit into other roles. Natural disasters also results in joblessness
since, in the event of such occurrences it leads to businesses being destroyed and this will likely lead to many people

Cause And Effect Essay On Unemployment

  • 1. Cause And Effect Essay On Unemployment Money is an important component that can help ones to function properly in this society. However, money defines our self–worth and value in this society. For decades, unemployment has become a big issue in our community. The younger generation are the one who suffers the most from the crisis. In 2009 alone, 6.7 million youths joined the ranks of the unemployed, and compare this with an average annual increase of 191,000 in the 10 years before the crisis 1997 to 2007(Elder,2010). Youth unemployment is a crucial issue in our society. Unfortunately, a lot of young people are going through that situation. When it comes to find a job, young people are the less fortunate for many reasons. For instance, some employers might be biased on ages and believes that young people do not have skills or enough experiences to perform at the level required for the jobs. The problem of youth unemployment has many causes and consequences in our society. Youth unemployment can affect the economy, family relationship, increase crime rates and, mental health. In 1990, Unemployment rate went up to 5.6 percent. According to statisma.com, Unemployment rate drop 0.7 percent in 2016 due to the effort of President Barack Obama (Statista, 2017).When there is a large amount of people who are unemployed, the economy and for society as a whole. Structural Functionalism is the way each part of society functions together to contribute to the whole (Keirns et. al., 2013). If one part of the society has a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Causes of Unemployment Causes of Unemployment In Malaysia, the unemployment rate is considered low compared to the early years such as 1986 where the unemployment rate reached as high as 7.6%. Today the unemployment rate is still affected by many factors and in order to make sure it doesn't reach as high as before, we need to find out the causes of unemployment so that we can provide a solution to the cause of it. Foreign labor force with lower wage or salary Redundant workers and fresh graduates with qualifications for their respective job sectors searches for jobs with acceptable wage or salary. This will delay their ability to work period resulting in firms that need labor to be desperate and start demanding for foreign labor force with low wage or ...show more content... Since our labor force have no intend to work in low wages and this had been always causing the Malaysia unemployment rate to increase. Lack of experience and skill of fresh graduates Nowadays, employers would rather employ workers with experience and skills compared to one without both. This factor lead us to the unemployment of fresh graduates that have just step into the labor force. Generally, most organizations prefer to employ graduates with experience. Furthermore, in Malaysia, the private sector today is not interested in recruiting local graduates because they lack essential skills, such as proficiency in English and interpersonal skills (Nor Hartini, 2007) and also lack of ICT proficiency. According to the Minister of Human Resources, more than 65% female graduates in this country are unemployed because they are lack of social communication skills in addition to a poor command of language and low levels of self confidence. He added, although many of the female graduates had achieved excellent academic results but could not secure employment without the relevant skills required in the labor market. The following breakdown refers only to the 20,217 who have registered themselves with the Ministry of Human Resources, and does not include those who haven't bothered with the Ministry. This shows the graduate students that is still not employed until now. Mismatch between qualifications acquired and current job market

  • 4. Essay on Causes of Unemployment The unemployment rate slowly started getting worse and it may have hit all time lows. With unemployment rates soaring the causes of this are from aging, teenagers, and outsourcing even though some refute with saying it is self inflicted. One of the things that cause unemployment to keep increasing is the age of people. Seeing as there is almost no family not affected by this great recession, there must have been a cause. "You are aging as you are not employed, and nobody is looking to hire somebody who is old," (Aaronson, pg. 6). When older people are laid off they keep aging and there are young kids coming out of college looking for the same job. Every single year more and more kids are graduating from college with degrees and the...show more content... Since, they are in school; it is very hard to have a job with the amount of credit hours that kids will be taking. These kids also don't have a degree just yet and they are trying to compete for the same jobs as adults that have experience in the field and also have a degree from college already. "Youth unemployment may have hit bottom and could increase in coming months and years," (Miller, 4th paragraph). The reason that the youth unemployment could be going up in the future is because the old adult percentage of people working is going down and they are starting to hire more teens and young adults. This is helpful to help hire more of the younger population but, this does not solve overall unemployment. The reason that there is a high unemployment rate is because some of the work is leaving the country. This is the act that is called outsourcing. "China is expanding," (Long terms, pg. 10). With China expanding it gives the U.S. more of a chance that they give their work to China or a different country. The reason that we give our work away to other countries is because other countries such as China can complete the work for almost half of the cost and sometimes even cheaper than that. "Overall economy is shrinking," (Aaronson, pg. 3). This is what happens when outsourcing is happening. As long as outsourcing is happening our U.S. economy only has one thing to do and that is to shrink. The reason that it is shrinking is because businesses large and small are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Unemployment And Its Effects On A Population You may ask yourself, what is unemployment? Why is it so important? and how does it affect my everyday life? A common misunderstanding that I have encountered throughout the time of my research of the subject is the difference between the term unemployment which refers to people who are out of a job but are prepared to work and unemployment in the sense of a welfare aid to those who are out of a job. I will be speaking to you today on the definition of unemployment, the types of unemployment, the consequences of unemployment and what can be done about unemployment. The unemployed can be defined as those people able, available and willing to work but cannot find a job despite an active search for work. Unemployment means that scarce human resources are not being used to produce goods and services to meet peoples changing needs and wants. Intense amounts of unemployment can have traumatizing effects on a population. Important key terms to remember when talking about unemployment are: Claimant Count: The number of people who claim unemployment related benefits. Labor Force Survey: People who actively seeking for work regardless of whether they claim benefits or not, Long Term unemployment: Those who remain unemployed for at least a year. Labor Force: Quantity of individuals who are of working age and are able and willing to work. Full employment: When there are enough job vacancies for all the unemployed to take work. Discouraged worker: Those who have been out of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Cause And Effect Of Unemployment Unemployment is a major issue that our government often has to deal with. It can bring serious downfall towards our society and the economy. Unemployment is described as a situation when an individual is willing to work and actively seeking for a job but remains un–hired. There are four main types of unemployment – structural, frictional, cyclical and seasonal. In this presentation, I will discuss the causes and effects of unemployment. I hope you will get a clear idea on how unemployment can affect society in years to come. Structural unemployment occurs when an individual does not have the required skills, or has skills that are not needed, to gain employment within an industry. This type of unemployment is usually impacted by consumer demand. A common cause of this form of unemployment is the advancement of technology. An example is seen in supermarkets where self–service checkouts replace store clerks. Cyclical unemployment is another form of unemployment that results when there is a decline in growth and production within the business cycle. When consumer demand declines, employers will lay off employees that are not needed. Only fewer employees are required to meet the lower standard of production volume. For example, an auto maker company loses consumer demand. Employers will lay off some of their auto workers because only a fewer number of employees would be able to manufacture a lower production of cars. Frictional unemployment is the time period of an individual Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Social And Economic Causes Of Unemployment Unemployment is a phenomenon that occurs when a person who is actively searching for employment is unable to find work. It is the failure of obtaining employment to earn wages or salaries paid in money. When there are more resources used for production and no man power, this will lead to a waste of economic resources and loss of goods and services. Unemployment has tremendous social and economic costs through all economies. It is the direct and indirect cause of many social and economic problems. In capitalist economies, families and individuals are responsible for earning, or providing, with whatever material and tools they have in their disposal. In all industrialized and developing economies, most workers do not have the ability to provide for the means of survival on their own, but instead must obtain their needs by selling their own power of labour into the market. Without selling themselves into the working environment, individuals may face financial insecurity that can soon result into poverty and indebtedness. This may also cause different kinds of criminal activity around the world due to an individual's struggle on becoming employed. Although employment can be attained, a capitalist economy has problems in having an individual maintain full employment because of the ongoing structural and technological changes. This includes changes such as supply in labor and the supply of natural resources. An economy running at full capacity and employment would be unable to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Essay on Unemployment Cause and Effect Unemployment – Causes I am going to offer my theory as to the real cause of unemployment, for every cause there is an effect. The process of cause and effect. It's hard to live a normal healthy life without a job and money. There are many reasons why people are unemployed, but in turn this state of unemployment can cause one to experience financial, emotional, and personal problems. The most common causes of unemployment are getting fired and laid off for specific reasons. People might get laid off if a company is going out of business or maybe if there are positions in the company that are no longer needed. It's difficult to find a job right away after being fired. Companies don't want to hire someone who...show more content... If someone gets into a car accident and gets physically injured long–term or becomes disabled, it becomes difficult to do many types of job. In the setup of a modern market economy, there are many factors, which contribute to unemployment. Causes of unemployment are varied and it may be due to the following factors: * Rapid changes in technology * Recessions * Inflation * Disability * Undulating business cycles * Changes in tastes as well as alterations in the climatic conditions. This may in turn lead to decline in demand for certain services as well as products. * Attitude towards employers * Willingness to work * Perception of employees * Employee values * Discriminating factors in the place of work (may include discrimination on the basis of age, class, ethnicity, color and race). * Ability to look for employment Unemployment at any given point of time may be either due to one of the factors mentioned above or a combination of several factors. It has also been observed that if the labor market in the economy does not work in an optimum manner, it leads to unemployment. There are other factors, which point at the tempo of an economic activity in a region. Household Survey Data: The number of unemployed persons, at 14.0 million, was essentially unchanged in September, and the Unemployment rate was 9.1 percent. Since Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Causes And Effects Of Unemployment Causes and Effects of Unemployment Travis Epling Strayer University ENG 105 Jeanette Trammel 9/14/14 Causes and Effects of Unemployment There are many reasons for unemployment in the United States and around the world. Some of these causes are created by the individual and others are out of their control. No matter what the cause for unemployment, it has a devastating effect on the individual, family, and economy. Unemployment defined by the Encyclopedia Britannica is the condition of one who is capable of working, actively seeking work, but is unable to find any work. In addition, to define a person as unemployed, the person must be an active member of the labor force in search of work. (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2012)...show more content... Monetary Effects Because unemployed people receive benefits from the government, there is a correlation between unemployment and increased government spending. The Employment Act of 1946 gave the government the responsibility of maintaining a high employment level of labor and price stability. The effects of this increased spending for unemployment benefits is that other government programs suffer a loss in their financial support. It also causes a decrease in the growth of the GDP. There are less people working so less goods and services are being produced and with fewer people to spend money in the economy there are less goods and services being purchased. This causes a decrease in demand of products and causes producers to lower their selling price to avoid a surplus. When the producer lowers their selling price, it causes the consumer price index to fall. Social Effects Various social effects spring from the people who are unemployed. They affect both our communities and the unemployed. The skills and knowledge from the unemployed is lost to our economy which keeps our economy from reaching its full potential. There is also an increase in crime and social strife during times of high unemployment. Bruce Weinberg, associate professor of economics at Ohio State University, Eric Gould, Hebrew University, and David Mustard, University of Georgia conducted a study of the national crime rates between 1979 and 1997 and found a direct correlation in falling wages Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Unemployment on the other hand can be simply defined as when a person in search of "employment" or "job" is unable to find employment or work. It is also said to be when an individual of working age seeking a job is unable to obtain any. Unemployment is a criteria used to diagnose the health of a country's economy health. It is a big challenge the country Nigeria has battled with for years now and has maintained a rising trend over the years. The standard of living of Nigerians deteriorate more every passing day, week, month, and year due to the rapidly increasing rate of unemployment in Nigeria. There are various causes of unemployment in Nigeria such as; Low standard of education, corruption, lack of steady power supply, high rate of tribalism, total neglect of the agricultural sector, lack of skills, poor morals, poor planning by the government, poor mechanisation, fraud, war and the list goes endless. All these points affect the countries employment rate in many ways than we know it. The case of low standard of education can be considered the key factor responsible for unemployment in the sense that, the educational system of Nigeria is a mess and at a state of chaos and disaster due to factors like; malpractice and insufficient funding etc. Seeing that the world is developing into a global community, many jobs today require some what level of education ranging from first school leaving certificate Get more content on HelpWriting.net

First, What is unemployment and what causes it to rise or fall? Unemployment is defined by the (Bureau Statistics) as people who do not have a job and have actively looked for work in the past four weeks. They also have to be currently available for work. Unemployment is indirectly proportional to the economy. When the economy grows, supply and demand change, consumers spend more, demand increases, goods need to be produced, and jobs are created. • 12. Unemployment And Its Effects On Society Everyone in this world needs to have job or money in order to survive. In the current situation, there are still tons of people all around the globe without a job and money, who struggles to live a healthy life. The person who is available for work, yet he or she does not have any opportunities is called unemployed. When we think of unemployment, we directly refer to a person without a job or "jobless". However, we do not consider what were the causes of that situation? Or what was the result? Unemployment has always been a social scourge. It is crucial to understand the causes and effects of unemployment because it can happen to almost anyone in this globe. Also, it is equally important to resolve this issue before it rises at a higher level else it can lead to a rise in illiteracy, poverty, and underemployment. The population growth, technological advancement, job requirements, and economic loss have provoked unemployment and in turns unemployment has far ranging effects on society. One of the major causes for unemployment is the rising population. In the last few decades, there is a gigantic amount of increase in population rate in every country. This leads us to a situation where for every job opportunities, there are several people qualified for it and deciding to acquire it. However, only few people are selected and the rest of them remain unemployed. The overpopulation has also increased the demand for resources and to satisfy those demands, there is a rapid Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Empirical research aims to decompose causes of unemployment into those that changed equilibrium and those that caused demand–deficient unemployment. A potential explanation of a rise in the equilibrium unemployment is a rise in the generosity of unemployment benefit relative to wages in work. Therefore people spend longer periods of time unemployed in search for the 'right' job, thus leading to a rise in equilibrium unemployment. (Begg, 2008, p. 530) In economics, the neoclassical view is that the government should not intervene with the market–that is, the optimal economic structure is a free market. Therefore, the a neoclassical economist would argue that unemployment is often caused by the government who makes it difficult for employers to fire employees, which causes employers to hesitate employing new workers thus resulting to an increase in unemployment rates. (Bryan's blog) As the Napoleonic Wars finished in 1815, the economy was followed by a recession and unemployment. Thomas Malthus (1766–1834) was the first to identify a lack of effective demand as the problem – the warehouses were full but people would not buy. However, David Ricardo (1772–1823) disagreed with Malthus about the lack of effective demand. Instead he argued that unemployment was due to the wages being too high: if people would accept lower wages they would find work. (Dobson, 1999, p. 176) John Maynard Keynes (1883–1946) argued, like Malthus, that this unemployment was primarily due to a failure of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Cause And Effects Of Unemployment All over the world there is poverty within the communities. Poverty is a big problem when it comes to unemployment. Some people only rely on government assessment for example food stamps, unemployment checks, Medicare, WIC, etc. There are ways to better your life and get off of government assessment. You can find ways to get a job and work your way off of government assessment. As you read more of the paper we will be discussing different unemployment. What really causes unemployment? Is it because of people being lazy or college kids are just getting into the real world and cannot seem to get a job. Many people struggle to find jobs to provide for their families. Jodi Beggs (2014) in her blog discuss voluntary, involuntary, frictional, and cyclical unemployment. There is always an cause and effect that tend to happen within life. Some people may be laid off which causes them to be unemployed. Unemployment leads to poverty within American because people do not have to funds to servicf. All unemployment is not the same although it do cause poverty. Voluntary unemployment tend to focus on the people wanting to move job to job (Beggs, 2014). J. Singh (2014) says it best when he stated that, "Voluntary unemployment refers to a situation when persons who are able to work but are not willing to work although suitable work is available for them."
