My Core Beliefs
One of my core values that I dwell upon because of my church is servitude. My church group influenced me in such a way that engaged me in these
activities throughout my academic career. For example, I saw many dentists at my church, including my father, assist less fortunate individuals such as
my relatives, friends, and complete strangers, even though they were unable to pay for procedures. I saw this as an amazing blessing and wonderful
service that benefits, the doctors, patients, and even the rest of society. Being a faithful Coptic Christian, I joined the Coptic Orthodox Christian Club
at the University of California, Riverside where I was elected treasurer and later on, vice president for my volunteering services within the club. As vice

Religion is a very diverse centre of beliefs that humans have had for thousands of years. It has influenced actions and events in history on a
monumental scale. Religion has created culture, countries, and most importantly, our morals. What defines religion is a spiritual belief that a group of
people have. With all the good religion has created in this world, it's like comparing 100 good deeds with their 100 bad counterparts, the good is
always outweighed by evil. Religion is usually recognized with all the unnecessary death and bloodshed it has created throughout human history. One
of the largest leading causes of religious influenced war is people having different beliefs than you. There's different types of religions and then theres
sub religions, humans always want to separate themselves, you can't stop it. If everyone in the world were one race, there would still be different
countries and religions, people want to be unique instead of a bunch of robots without any uniqueness.
If religion never existed, we would still have some culture and a way of life to an extent, but the belief that there is no greater power watching over
you would make almost all humans very violent and destructive animals. We wouldn't find any special purpose in life instead of living and dying
There wouldn't be any morals to stop people from murdering, stealing, cheating, or lying. Religion is not just the belief of a greater power, what all
religions have in common are commandments that their

My Beliefs, My Life
My Beliefs, My Life There is a quote by Plato which states, "Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what
amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each." I consider this quote to be
inspirational because it explains how children should be able to grow up and learn their own path in life rather than one being appointed to them.
My beliefs in life would be the belief that school is important and the belief that you can become anything you want. I believe that these values will
help me live a rewarding and productive life. One major belief I have in life is that school is important. As a child growing up I was surrounded by
family that did not care for school. I was never pushed to go to school and all my friends would say how much they would get in trouble for not
liking school and wanting to miss a day or two. Hearing that made me curious as to why my family disliked school so much. I asked many family
members what their opinion on school was and they all said they never got their diploma because their parents didn't care whether they went to
school or not so they just decided to drop out. I paid close attention to my family one day and examined their actions. My family has a gardening
company in which many of the male family members work for. The women of the family were all house wives and did nothing but cook and clean.
That seemed like an unproductive life for

Personal Values, Beliefs, And Attitudes
Introduction As human beings, we all have our own values, beliefs, and attitudes. These things develop over the course of our lifetime and at any
point can change based on an experience that we may have. Our family, friends, community and the experiences we have had all contribute to our
sense of who we are and how we view the world.
Values, Beliefs, and a Little About Me
Over the course of my life my values have changed based on circumstance. Currently if I had to list out my top five values in descending order they
would be: religion, family, education, country, and culture. I value religion first and foremost because of my beliefs system that has been instilled
in me since I was a child. " If you place God first in your life, then everything else will work itself out", is something my Grandfather has always
told me. Family is something that doesn 't necessarily come first, but is a very high value to me. I identify as being a very caring father and
husband, the protector, and head of my household. My family has always been supportive of my decisions. They have influenced me to always give
my best at everything and to persevere when I fail. Education is the new value that has began to take a precedence in my life. Education is the bridge
to success that I am striving to succeed at. Without education I cannot properly attend to my family 's needs. The time demand of education also puts it
very high on my values list because it warrants the majority of my attention.

African-American Cultural Beliefs Essay
African–American is a politically correct term used to refer to blacks within the United States. The roots of many African–American rites can be traced
back to African cultural rites. However, it is important to note that not all blacks in America identify with African cultural roots. Therefore, some of the
rites found within what many in the United States call African–American culture stem from Caribbean and other cultural traditions. For this reason,
when making end of life decisions or funeral arrangements the "cultural identification, spirituality and the social class" the individual identifies with
must be taken into account. The black majority within the United States identifies with Afrocentric traditions and perspectives. For this...show more

To this end it is common for African–Americans to not mitigate pain and suffering while pursuing any and all life sustaining treatments made available
to them (Barrett, 2002). African–Americans will generally even pursue life saving treatments aggressively when they are informed of the treatments
futility (Barrett, 2005). The African–American cultural view of death is one of normalcy. They view death as comfortable and familiar. The sanctity of
life and its preservation is extremely important within African–American culture but when death comes it is considered natural and an accepted part of
life (Barrett, 2002). This differs from the traditional American cultural perspective that after the mid to late 1900's came to view death as unnatural and
something to be hidden (Corr, 2009). African–American culture may consider death to be a natural part of life but the sanctity of life is also very
important to them. For this reason African–Americans are more inclined to aggressively pursue life saving treatments than those from traditional
American culture (Barrett, 2005). Members of African–American culture are also less likely to want to talk about or deal with end of life
decision–making (Welch, 2005). When coping with the psychological dimension of dying, African–Americans are normally less willing to discuss end
of life decisions as well as treatment preferences, unlike their culturally traditional American counterparts. One reason

What Is Religion? Essay
What is religion? Each person's definition of religion is different. Each person's faith is different. This is a question that has been asked for
centuries, and regardless of the answer given there is no right or wrong answer. Religion can be defined as a group of people who have shared
beliefs who feel their life has purpose or meaning. This feeling or belief that their life has meaning can come from outside of themselves, as well as
within. Taking this one step further, these shared beliefs put into action in the form of worship, can be easily identified because they happen regularly.

They are teachings learned by previous generations then passed down, they are not always actions. The fifth feature of religion is grace. Grace is
defined by Smith as "the belief and assurance that reality is on our side and can be counted on." Lastly there is mystery. For this there is no exact
definition, but it is all of what a religion cannot explain, it is all that the human mind cannot grasp, it is the certain "higher power" that religion offers.
Of these six features, there are three that are present in most all religions, they are: authority, tradition, and mystery. Authority, tradition, and mystery
further explore and define religion when looking specifically at Primal Religions, Confucianism, and Taoism. Primal Religions are often mistaken to
be the religion of the primitive man, often thought to be unintelligent. There is a definition of "primal" that is better suited than unintelligent or
primitive. Primal in terms of religion, refers to the lack of exposure to technology, it is not "knowing" the state of consciousness given to many by
the technological environment. Primal religions preceded organized religion as we know it today by thousands of years, in some cases millions, but
are still present in the world today; we now call them tribal religions. Within primal religions there are people who are knowledgeable about life, who

My Family Beliefs
Karen Marie Moning said, "It's what you choose to believe that makes you the person you are."I agree with this quote because having beliefs is
significant by making you poised, victorious, and brave in life. In addition, everything you do in your daily life is tied back to your beliefs you
hold in the world. When I was young I used to believe that a tooth fairy will come to grab my little tooth and put a dollar instead. Also, I used to
believe that Santa Claus will come one night and will bestow me a present. Furthermore, I used to hate halloween because I thought zombies will get
out in halloween, and for this reason when I was young I had never went trick treating. As I grow up I changed my judgment in life as well as my
beliefs and, I think my new belief helped me throughout my life. Now I believe that my family is my happiness, people should be happy in life, and I
believe that having friends is great.
As I have grown up I realized that my family is my happiness for numerous purposes. First of all, my family gives me the perception of fondness and
careness. In other words, I consider that love and care are the most paramount things that makes people happy. Family members should take care of
each other because as a result people will end up with a trust and strong family ties. Furthermore, my family always bestow me with a great support.
To explain, my family is my strength in hard times especially when I face stressful situations. My family makes me a confident

Cultural Religious Beliefs Essay
Introduction When trying to learn about a particular culture or religion, one often tends to ask themselves, "What does this group of people believe
and value"? Jerry Looper (2006) defines values as, "deeply held beliefs about what is good, right, and appropriate. Values are deep–seated and remain
constant over time. We accumulate our values from childhood based on teachings and observations of our parents, teachers, religious leaders, and
other influential and powerful people". The Jewish religion is a monotheistic faith, meaning they only believe in one God. Pelaia (2010) states, "They
also have the belief that Jews are uniquely connected with each other. Regardless of where we live in the world, all Jews are part of a global...show

That is the intention of kavod". The religion teaches that it is the duty of the child or children to provide care for their elderly parents when they
are not in the condition to provide care for their selves. This follows the construct of preserving dignity and respect. When it comes to decision
making, there is some controversy concerning when the child is to obey a request or make one on behalf of their parent. Some debate within the
religion says that if the parent is in their right mind they are able to make their own decisions which are to be obeyed respectfully by their
children. Others, such as Rabbi Amsel (2010) state, "a child should listen to a parent's request if the request poses no great danger to the parent".
Dying Dealing with the sickness and dying is a difficult time for patients and their families. When caring for a dying patient of Jewish religion, it
may be best to consult with a rabbi that is knowledgeable in Jewish medical ethics. The Jewish culture dictates to its people, they have the
responsibility to accept medical treatment if there is a possibility of that treatment resulting in saving their life. However, there are some exceptions to
this belief. In terms of terminal illness, the patient will accept treatment only if there is hope of recovery or if it will extend their life. Otherwise it is
acceptable for the Jewish patient to

My Core Values
As I have grown as an adult and moved further towards success in my life, I have always maintained a guided structure to achieve goals and tasks
that challenge me. I call these my "Core Values". This is a strict regimen or a belief system that I have instilled into my everyday practice to complete
any task that presents itself. Although not perfected, I have found this method to be quite successful. My work ethic, responsibility, and my drive to
further my education and knowledge have never failed me. Life can seem tough and demanding on a very consistent basis, but I believe that I have
cultivated a plan to accommodate and withstand any trial

To build responsibility as a child I volunteered to take care of my family dog. Even though she was the family's pet I took it upon myself to make sure
she was properly fed, watered, and walked. My mother was very proud of my new development as an adolescent. She became very encouraging and
would come up with other special chores around the house that I could be relied upon to handle. To some children this would seem like a
punishment, but both of my parents were so supportive and persuasive that I looked forward to having the gained accountability. My father
instituted honesty and respect as monuments for responsibility. I of course struggled at times with taking care of my dog, and handling some of
my other chores. But my father always wanted me to not only be honest with my parents, but also with myself. He stated that a lie would not
benefit anybody and it was disrespectful to tell a lie. He would tell me that a liar was the same as a cheater, and nobody liked either. If I knew how
to respect others and be honest, than my responsibility would only increase. I asked why I would want added responsibility and my father told me
two things that changed my perspective completely. First, it was that responsible people always tended to be more successful. Since I had always
dreamed of growing up to be rich and famous, I guess I could accept the added responsibility. The second thing he told me was that one day I could

SUPERSTITIOUS BELIEFS
INTRODUCTION
Over a period of time, superstitious beliefs have rooted themselves firmly in our society, so much so that it is virtually impossible for the person to
ignore them. They have made a place for themselves in all the walks of life, including politics and sports. Politicians resorting to the astrological
predictions is not at all rare. On the other hand, examples of superstitions in sports include cricketers carrying a coloured handkerchief in their pocket,
or soccer players putting their right foot first when they enter the field. Such superstitious practices are found all over the world. Basically, superstitious
beliefs and practices are illogical assumptions based on one particular incident, which are then...show more content...
Horseshoes have been used as protection from the evil in many European and Middle Eastern households.
Covering a Yawn
Some ancient theorists feared that the soul could sort of slip out of the body during a yawn, cresting an opportunity for evil spirits to get in and trash
the place. Also some ancient man had observed that new–borns, struggling to survive, yawn shortly after birth (a reflexive response to draw additional
oxygen into the lungs). With infant mortality extraordinarily high, early physicians, at a loss to account for frequent deaths, blamed the yawn. The
helpless baby simply could not cover its mouth with a protective hand. Roman physicians actually recommended that a mother be particularly vigilant
during the early months of life and cover any of her new–born's yawns until they could learn to do it themselves. However, at present it is just
considered rude not covering a yawn since it is contagious.
The Unlucky 13
Surveys show that of all bad luck superstitions, unease surrounding the number 13 is the one that affects most people today–and in almost countless
ways. Ancient Egyptians associated the number 13 with death, which later led to the fear of this number. The widely known story behind 13 being
unlucky is that of Last Supper. We all know, Judas, the betrayer of Jesus was the 13th guest at the meal. In ancient Rome, witches reportedly gathered
in groups of 12. The

Morality is defined as the ability to know right from wrong, and good from bad in our society today and also the societies of the past. Morality is
influenced by your family, your religion, and your society. We will be looking at Asia, Africa and the Americas and how their morality was affected by
family, religion, and the society. In ancient China morality was influence by family, religion, and society, but I believe it was influenced the most by
religion and society. China From the early days of the Neolithic villages used the fertile soil from the Yellow and the Yangzi Rivers to product silk
which brought great wealth to the Chinese culture. They also in around 1750 B.C.E developed the technique of calligraphy, which has some...show

Over some time it is clear that people migrated and settled into what we call today Mexico and Central America. The moral beliefs of this culture
were rooted in religion and their society. The people of the Olmec's society saw priest governed on the behalf of the gods and they were also
responsible to oversee the spiritual life of the community. (fiero p.74) These people were farmers and artisans at the lower end and ruling nobility at
the upper end of the class scale. The Olmec's raised temples fitted with elaborate drainage systems. They created a calendrical system, developed
portraiture and mirror making and practiced rituals involving human sacrifice. (fiero p.74) The Olmec's political, religious, and artistic traditions
survived for centuries in the civilizations of the Mayans and the Aztecs. The last culture that will be discussed is Africa. Africa's morals like the other
societies were mostly influenced by their religion and society. In ancient Egypt the Book of the Dead, a collection of funerary prayers, was a morality
guidance system. These were a list of forty–two action or acts that were prohibited to humans. The Egyptians also used the gods as a way of
influencing their moral beliefs. The sun god or Ra was the

Faith And Belief Of Faith Essay
What is faith? Faith can be described in many ways, based on the belief someone has for God. The difficult part when wanting to talk about
explaining faith and what we think God brings to our life, is based on what God brought to this world for each of us specifically. Faith can be
challenging in an individual's life, because for some they are never sure where they stand with the word "faith". From christianity.about.com, faith was
defined as belief with strong conviction; firm belief in something for which there may be no tangible proof; complete trust, confidence, reliance or
devotion. Faith is the opposite of doubt. I will prove in this paper that faith is not only about what was defined, but more about what one believes
and how one acts on their own faith. There is a lot more to faith than just a strong belief. I would argue that belief of faith consists of three key
components; commitment, sacrifice, and belief. Before I explain more about commitment, sacrifice, and belief, I want to see what Christian faith is,
and from where it comes, how it may be nurtured, and lastly, how can it impact someone's everyday life. Two versus from 1 John really stand out to
me when it comes to Christian faith. In 1 John 5:5 it says, "Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God
." Therefore, stating for whomever is gifted the gift of life shall believe in Jesus, and in doing so you are stated as the son of God. 1 John 5:13 says, "I

Essay on Religion is a Set of Beliefs
"Religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considering religion as the creation of a
superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of
human affairs", as stated by Webster's dictionary.1Religion is basically the belief in a higher being who controls the life of the people, and ultimately
decides the fate of a being after death. There about 21 major religions today each with thousands of different denominations, this branched from under
them. Christianity is responsible for 32 of them by itself! There are so many different religions because of the difference of opinion in beliefs, and in

First there are those who have monotheistic views. Religions with a monotheistic view believe in only one God only and believe that he is the only true
creator and that the people should obey that God and forsake all other Gods.
There are also polytheistic religions, these religions believe in more than one God. They believe that there are different Gods that control certain
aspects of life, for example Greeks had Zeus the God of the sky and rain, and Hades who was the God of the under world.2 Greek Gods seem to have a
sense of checks and balances to make the world run.
Some religions have what is called a Mandate of Heaven, in which a human being is appointed as a God and worshipped. The ancient Mayans had a
practice similar to this. Their king would shed the blood of his queen as well as himself from the tongue and genitals in order to bring prosperity
among their people and their lands.
There are even some philosophies of life that have no faith in a religion at all. These people are known as atheist, scientologist, etc. They generally
believe in the theory of evolution as a reason for man's existence today. The theory of evolution is the belief that man slowly evolved from a single
cell organism over billions of years as the earth progressed. Charles Darwin claimed that organisms adapted to the environment over time in order to
survive, with each generation being better than the one that preceded it. The only binding factor in

Stereotypes Of Religion Essay
Can you be religious in today's society without being stereotyped? Can you bring up your beliefs in an everyday conversation without being
ridiculed? The answer to that is simple, no. In today's society, people are strongly opinionated. Certain individuals believe religion is a filthy word.
Should you avoid talking to those types of people about your religion? Should you change what you believe to appease others? Religion has a vast
definition. When I think of religion, I think of faith. When I think of faith, I think of our Lord and Savior. Does that mean everyone else in the world
comes to the same conclusion? No, not at all, because we all have different beliefs. I have been going to church ever since I was a child. My beliefs have

If it is the way I strongly feel about something, it has to do with my ethics and the way in which I was brought up. All the beliefs and values that I
have make up the person that I am today. If another person were to tell me otherwise, that my beliefs are wrong or even force change upon my
beliefs, then I would be assimilated. Everyone's personal beliefs would be more or less the same and then no individual would be unique anymore.
People would lose the ability to think without emotion and beliefs, and thus life would quickly lose its value. Belief has two components – to believe
in, which is one's faith, and to believe that, which is one's emotions. To believe in yourself wuld be to have faith in yourself. Faith, to believe in, has
certain expectations unlike "to believe that". However, belief and faith are similar in that beliefs are biased, and it allows for individual interpretations.
Belief is merely in the mind, it is not a kind of knowledge, but a requirement for knowledge.
Belief and knowledge are related in the sense that to believe in something requires the basic knowledge of that something. No ideas or beliefs in our
minds can exist without being known. How can you believe in something that you do not even know? If I did not know what snow is, how is it that I
can believe that it will snow tomorrow? The more that something is known, the more certain, or

My Culture, Values, And Beliefs
Values and beliefs are what every living human being possesses, whether we are conscious about it or not. They impact how we live through day by
day, how we make decisions and interact with society. We possess these values and beliefs commonly from our parents, friends and others who are
close to us as we continue to grow and learn. Some of the values and beliefs that I find are more important to me are family, respect, ethnicity and
openness. Family is what I value the most, they are always there for me through good and bad times. They are my support source and I can always
count on them for when I am troubled. I unquestionably inherited this value from my parents as well as my culture (Filipino), for it is known to be
very family orientated and to the very extent, loyal. My parents are my first teachers, teaching me what is acceptable and what is not, how the world
works and most importantly, respect. Respect is another value that I have also inherited from my parents and culture. In the Filipino culture, respect is
very important, especially towards those who are older than you. The use of honorifics is extremely crucial when addressing people who are not of
the same age otherwise it comes off as rude and disrespectful, similarly to other Asian countries like Japan. This aspect definitely has impacted the

My Values And Beliefs Of Nursing
Philosophy of Nursing Everyone's values and beliefs about the profession of nursing are all different. The four concepts of nursing are interrelated
and all mean something different to every person, too. Throughout this paper, I will be reflecting on my values and beliefs about nursing through the
four concepts while comparing them to a nursing theorist with views that are most similar to my own. My Values and Beliefs of Nursing I choose
nursing as my future career because I enjoy working with others, helping others feel better, and educating people. These three topics are all involved
in what nursing is. I believe that nursing is focused on the holistic care of individuals and their families in order to achieve and maintain an optimal
level of health, a great quality of life, and comfort. This is done through the promoting healthy living, providing a safe environment, preventing illness,
and the caring for the individual and the family. My Views of the Nursing Concepts After evaluating what the nursing concepts mean to me, I found
that they are most similar to Florence Nightingale's theory. For the first concept of nursing, I think it is the holistic care of individuals to provide an
optimal level of health and function, comfort, safety, and education. With holistic care, nurses focus on the mind, body, and spirit. Not only does
nursing deal with caring for the individual, but also education is a large part of nursing. To me, the second concept of nursing,

Beliefs, Morals and Values Application
According to Webster's II New College Dictionary a belief is the mental act, condition, or habit of placing trust or confidence in a person or thing
and mental acceptance of or conviction in the truth or actuality of something (1995). A belief consists of anything believed by conviction or faith; a
belief can be something accepted as true (Weber, 2002). Beliefs are convictions; trust or confidence placed in a person or thing (Encarta, 1999). A

To answer the question of man's inherent evilness or goodness is to assume that one believes that man is one or the other. In the article, "Good andEvil,
The Nature of the Soul," author Laura Aversano describes man's relationship withgood and evil this way:
The soul stemming from stillness, creates a unified relationship between good and evil at its essential core and understanding from the way that God
intended. As the collective and personal soul unfolds into various levels, good and evil takes on its own form within the various levels of
understanding. Good and evil become personified from ego levels and spiritual levels and their forms become integrated into spiritual and human
realities simply so that we can learn from them, become greater human and spiritual beings, and allow them to come back into balance to the highest
degree possible under God without any interference from our human and spiritual attachments and attainments. Thus, the concepts of good and evil are
there for our understanding, as is the soul. Under spiritual laws, they will

My Core Beliefs

  • 1. My Core Beliefs One of my core values that I dwell upon because of my church is servitude. My church group influenced me in such a way that engaged me in these activities throughout my academic career. For example, I saw many dentists at my church, including my father, assist less fortunate individuals such as my relatives, friends, and complete strangers, even though they were unable to pay for procedures. I saw this as an amazing blessing and wonderful service that benefits, the doctors, patients, and even the rest of society. Being a faithful Coptic Christian, I joined the Coptic Orthodox Christian Club at the University of California, Riverside where I was elected treasurer and later on, vice president for my volunteering services within the club. • 2. Religion is a very diverse centre of beliefs that humans have had for thousands of years. It has influenced actions and events in history on a monumental scale. Religion has created culture, countries, and most importantly, our morals. What defines religion is a spiritual belief that a group of people have. With all the good religion has created in this world, it's like comparing 100 good deeds with their 100 bad counterparts, the good is always outweighed by evil. Religion is usually recognized with all the unnecessary death and bloodshed it has created throughout human history. One of the largest leading causes of religious influenced war is people having different beliefs than you. There's different types of religions and then theres sub religions, humans always want to separate themselves, you can't stop it. If everyone in the world were one race, there would still be different countries and religions, people want to be unique instead of a bunch of robots without any uniqueness. If religion never existed, we would still have some culture and a way of life to an extent, but the belief that there is no greater power watching over you would make almost all humans very violent and destructive animals. We wouldn't find any special purpose in life instead of living and dying There wouldn't be any morals to stop people from murdering, stealing, cheating, or lying. Religion is not just the belief of a greater power, what all religions have in common are commandments that their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. My Beliefs, My Life My Beliefs, My Life There is a quote by Plato which states, "Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each." I consider this quote to be inspirational because it explains how children should be able to grow up and learn their own path in life rather than one being appointed to them. My beliefs in life would be the belief that school is important and the belief that you can become anything you want. I believe that these values will help me live a rewarding and productive life. One major belief I have in life is that school is important. As a child growing up I was surrounded by family that did not care for school. I was never pushed to go to school and all my friends would say how much they would get in trouble for not liking school and wanting to miss a day or two. Hearing that made me curious as to why my family disliked school so much. I asked many family members what their opinion on school was and they all said they never got their diploma because their parents didn't care whether they went to school or not so they just decided to drop out. I paid close attention to my family one day and examined their actions. My family has a gardening company in which many of the male family members work for. The women of the family were all house wives and did nothing but cook and clean. That seemed like an unproductive life for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Personal Values, Beliefs, And Attitudes Introduction As human beings, we all have our own values, beliefs, and attitudes. These things develop over the course of our lifetime and at any point can change based on an experience that we may have. Our family, friends, community and the experiences we have had all contribute to our sense of who we are and how we view the world. Values, Beliefs, and a Little About Me Over the course of my life my values have changed based on circumstance. Currently if I had to list out my top five values in descending order they would be: religion, family, education, country, and culture. I value religion first and foremost because of my beliefs system that has been instilled in me since I was a child. " If you place God first in your life, then everything else will work itself out", is something my Grandfather has always told me. Family is something that doesn 't necessarily come first, but is a very high value to me. I identify as being a very caring father and husband, the protector, and head of my household. My family has always been supportive of my decisions. They have influenced me to always give my best at everything and to persevere when I fail. Education is the new value that has began to take a precedence in my life. Education is the bridge to success that I am striving to succeed at. Without education I cannot properly attend to my family 's needs. The time demand of education also puts it very high on my values list because it warrants the majority of my attention. • 5. African-American Cultural Beliefs Essay African–American is a politically correct term used to refer to blacks within the United States. The roots of many African–American rites can be traced back to African cultural rites. However, it is important to note that not all blacks in America identify with African cultural roots. Therefore, some of the rites found within what many in the United States call African–American culture stem from Caribbean and other cultural traditions. For this reason, when making end of life decisions or funeral arrangements the "cultural identification, spirituality and the social class" the individual identifies with must be taken into account. The black majority within the United States identifies with Afrocentric traditions and perspectives. For this...show more content... To this end it is common for African–Americans to not mitigate pain and suffering while pursuing any and all life sustaining treatments made available to them (Barrett, 2002). African–Americans will generally even pursue life saving treatments aggressively when they are informed of the treatments futility (Barrett, 2005). The African–American cultural view of death is one of normalcy. They view death as comfortable and familiar. The sanctity of life and its preservation is extremely important within African–American culture but when death comes it is considered natural and an accepted part of life (Barrett, 2002). This differs from the traditional American cultural perspective that after the mid to late 1900's came to view death as unnatural and something to be hidden (Corr, 2009). African–American culture may consider death to be a natural part of life but the sanctity of life is also very important to them. For this reason African–Americans are more inclined to aggressively pursue life saving treatments than those from traditional American culture (Barrett, 2005). Members of African–American culture are also less likely to want to talk about or deal with end of life decision–making (Welch, 2005). When coping with the psychological dimension of dying, African–Americans are normally less willing to discuss end of life decisions as well as treatment preferences, unlike their culturally traditional American counterparts. One reason Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. What Is Religion? Essay What is religion? Each person's definition of religion is different. Each person's faith is different. This is a question that has been asked for centuries, and regardless of the answer given there is no right or wrong answer. Religion can be defined as a group of people who have shared beliefs who feel their life has purpose or meaning. This feeling or belief that their life has meaning can come from outside of themselves, as well as within. Taking this one step further, these shared beliefs put into action in the form of worship, can be easily identified because they happen regularly. It can be said the Primal religions were in fact not religions. Some may argue Confucianism is not a religion. Others may say Taoism is not a...show more content... They are teachings learned by previous generations then passed down, they are not always actions. The fifth feature of religion is grace. Grace is defined by Smith as "the belief and assurance that reality is on our side and can be counted on." Lastly there is mystery. For this there is no exact definition, but it is all of what a religion cannot explain, it is all that the human mind cannot grasp, it is the certain "higher power" that religion offers. Of these six features, there are three that are present in most all religions, they are: authority, tradition, and mystery. Authority, tradition, and mystery further explore and define religion when looking specifically at Primal Religions, Confucianism, and Taoism. Primal Religions are often mistaken to be the religion of the primitive man, often thought to be unintelligent. There is a definition of "primal" that is better suited than unintelligent or primitive. Primal in terms of religion, refers to the lack of exposure to technology, it is not "knowing" the state of consciousness given to many by the technological environment. Primal religions preceded organized religion as we know it today by thousands of years, in some cases millions, but are still present in the world today; we now call them tribal religions. Within primal religions there are people who are knowledgeable about life, who are knowledgeable about Defining Religion–4 traditions, and who are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. My Family Beliefs Karen Marie Moning said, "It's what you choose to believe that makes you the person you are."I agree with this quote because having beliefs is significant by making you poised, victorious, and brave in life. In addition, everything you do in your daily life is tied back to your beliefs you hold in the world. When I was young I used to believe that a tooth fairy will come to grab my little tooth and put a dollar instead. Also, I used to believe that Santa Claus will come one night and will bestow me a present. Furthermore, I used to hate halloween because I thought zombies will get out in halloween, and for this reason when I was young I had never went trick treating. As I grow up I changed my judgment in life as well as my beliefs and, I think my new belief helped me throughout my life. Now I believe that my family is my happiness, people should be happy in life, and I believe that having friends is great. As I have grown up I realized that my family is my happiness for numerous purposes. First of all, my family gives me the perception of fondness and careness. In other words, I consider that love and care are the most paramount things that makes people happy. Family members should take care of each other because as a result people will end up with a trust and strong family ties. Furthermore, my family always bestow me with a great support. To explain, my family is my strength in hard times especially when I face stressful situations. My family makes me a confident Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Cultural Religious Beliefs Essay Introduction When trying to learn about a particular culture or religion, one often tends to ask themselves, "What does this group of people believe and value"? Jerry Looper (2006) defines values as, "deeply held beliefs about what is good, right, and appropriate. Values are deep–seated and remain constant over time. We accumulate our values from childhood based on teachings and observations of our parents, teachers, religious leaders, and other influential and powerful people". The Jewish religion is a monotheistic faith, meaning they only believe in one God. Pelaia (2010) states, "They also have the belief that Jews are uniquely connected with each other. Regardless of where we live in the world, all Jews are part of a global...show more content... That is the intention of kavod". The religion teaches that it is the duty of the child or children to provide care for their elderly parents when they are not in the condition to provide care for their selves. This follows the construct of preserving dignity and respect. When it comes to decision making, there is some controversy concerning when the child is to obey a request or make one on behalf of their parent. Some debate within the religion says that if the parent is in their right mind they are able to make their own decisions which are to be obeyed respectfully by their children. Others, such as Rabbi Amsel (2010) state, "a child should listen to a parent's request if the request poses no great danger to the parent". Dying Dealing with the sickness and dying is a difficult time for patients and their families. When caring for a dying patient of Jewish religion, it may be best to consult with a rabbi that is knowledgeable in Jewish medical ethics. The Jewish culture dictates to its people, they have the responsibility to accept medical treatment if there is a possibility of that treatment resulting in saving their life. However, there are some exceptions to this belief. In terms of terminal illness, the patient will accept treatment only if there is hope of recovery or if it will extend their life. Otherwise it is acceptable for the Jewish patient to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Essay about My Core Values Tamneicha Mcdavid Prof.Beck ENC 1101 July 30, 2009 Example Essay My Core Values As I have grown as an adult and moved further towards success in my life, I have always maintained a guided structure to achieve goals and tasks that challenge me. I call these my "Core Values". This is a strict regimen or a belief system that I have instilled into my everyday practice to complete any task that presents itself. Although not perfected, I have found this method to be quite successful. My work ethic, responsibility, and my drive to further my education and knowledge have never failed me. Life can seem tough and demanding on a very consistent basis, but I believe that I have cultivated a plan to accommodate and withstand any trial The first...show more content... To build responsibility as a child I volunteered to take care of my family dog. Even though she was the family's pet I took it upon myself to make sure she was properly fed, watered, and walked. My mother was very proud of my new development as an adolescent. She became very encouraging and would come up with other special chores around the house that I could be relied upon to handle. To some children this would seem like a punishment, but both of my parents were so supportive and persuasive that I looked forward to having the gained accountability. My father instituted honesty and respect as monuments for responsibility. I of course struggled at times with taking care of my dog, and handling some of my other chores. But my father always wanted me to not only be honest with my parents, but also with myself. He stated that a lie would not benefit anybody and it was disrespectful to tell a lie. He would tell me that a liar was the same as a cheater, and nobody liked either. If I knew how to respect others and be honest, than my responsibility would only increase. I asked why I would want added responsibility and my father told me two things that changed my perspective completely. First, it was that responsible people always tended to be more successful. Since I had always dreamed of growing up to be rich and famous, I guess I could accept the added responsibility. The second thing he told me was that one day I could possibly

  • 11. Superstitious Beliefs SUPERSTITIOUS BELIEFS INTRODUCTION Over a period of time, superstitious beliefs have rooted themselves firmly in our society, so much so that it is virtually impossible for the person to ignore them. They have made a place for themselves in all the walks of life, including politics and sports. Politicians resorting to the astrological predictions is not at all rare. On the other hand, examples of superstitions in sports include cricketers carrying a coloured handkerchief in their pocket, or soccer players putting their right foot first when they enter the field. Such superstitious practices are found all over the world. Basically, superstitious beliefs and practices are illogical assumptions based on one particular incident, which are then...show more content... Horseshoes have been used as protection from the evil in many European and Middle Eastern households. Covering a Yawn Some ancient theorists feared that the soul could sort of slip out of the body during a yawn, cresting an opportunity for evil spirits to get in and trash the place. Also some ancient man had observed that new–borns, struggling to survive, yawn shortly after birth (a reflexive response to draw additional oxygen into the lungs). With infant mortality extraordinarily high, early physicians, at a loss to account for frequent deaths, blamed the yawn. The helpless baby simply could not cover its mouth with a protective hand. Roman physicians actually recommended that a mother be particularly vigilant during the early months of life and cover any of her new–born's yawns until they could learn to do it themselves. However, at present it is just considered rude not covering a yawn since it is contagious. The Unlucky 13 Surveys show that of all bad luck superstitions, unease surrounding the number 13 is the one that affects most people today–and in almost countless ways. Ancient Egyptians associated the number 13 with death, which later led to the fear of this number. The widely known story behind 13 being unlucky is that of Last Supper. We all know, Judas, the betrayer of Jesus was the 13th guest at the meal. In ancient Rome, witches reportedly gathered in groups of 12. The Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Morality is defined as the ability to know right from wrong, and good from bad in our society today and also the societies of the past. Morality is influenced by your family, your religion, and your society. We will be looking at Asia, Africa and the Americas and how their morality was affected by family, religion, and the society. In ancient China morality was influence by family, religion, and society, but I believe it was influenced the most by religion and society. The people of the Olmec's society saw priest governed on the behalf of the gods and they were also responsible to oversee the spiritual life of the community. (fiero p.74) These people were farmers and artisans at the lower end and ruling nobility at the upper end of the class scale. The Olmec's raised temples fitted with elaborate drainage systems. They created a calendrical system, developed portraiture and mirror making and practiced rituals involving human sacrifice. Africa's morals like the other societies were mostly influenced by their religion and society. In ancient Egypt the Book of the Dead, a collection of funerary prayers, was a morality guidance system. These were a list of forty–two action or acts that were prohibited to humans. The Egyptians also used the gods as a way of influencing their moral beliefs. • 13. Faith And Belief Of Faith Essay What is faith? Faith can be described in many ways, based on the belief someone has for God. The difficult part when wanting to talk about explaining faith and what we think God brings to our life, is based on what God brought to this world for each of us specifically. Faith can be challenging in an individual's life, because for some they are never sure where they stand with the word "faith". From christianity.about.com, faith was defined as belief with strong conviction; firm belief in something for which there may be no tangible proof; complete trust, confidence, reliance or devotion. Faith is the opposite of doubt. I will prove in this paper that faith is not only about what was defined, but more about what one believes and how one acts on their own faith. There is a lot more to faith than just a strong belief. I would argue that belief of faith consists of three key components; commitment, sacrifice, and belief. Before I explain more about commitment, sacrifice, and belief, I want to see what Christian faith is, and from where it comes, how it may be nurtured, and lastly, how can it impact someone's everyday life. Two versus from 1 John really stand out to me when it comes to Christian faith. In 1 John 5:5 it says, "Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God ." Therefore, stating for whomever is gifted the gift of life shall believe in Jesus, and in doing so you are stated as the son of God. 1 John 5:13 says, "I Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Essay on Religion is a Set of Beliefs "Religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considering religion as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs", as stated by Webster's dictionary.1Religion is basically the belief in a higher being who controls the life of the people, and ultimately decides the fate of a being after death. Religions with a monotheistic view believe in only one God only and believe that he is the only true creator and that the people should obey that God and forsake all other Gods. There are also polytheistic religions, these religions believe in more than one God. They believe that there are different Gods that control certain aspects of life, for example Greeks had Zeus the God of the sky and rain, and Hades who was the God of the under world.2 Greek Gods seem to have a sense of checks and balances to make the world run. Some religions have what is called a Mandate of Heaven, in which a human being is appointed as a God and worshipped. The ancient Mayans had a practice similar to this. Their king would shed the blood of his queen as well as himself from the tongue and genitals in order to bring prosperity among their people and their lands. There are even some philosophies of life that have no faith in a religion at all. These people are known as atheist, scientologist, etc. They generally believe in the theory of evolution as a reason for man's existence today. The theory of evolution is the belief that man slowly evolved from a single cell organism over billions of years as the earth progressed. Charles Darwin claimed that organisms adapted to the environment over time in order to survive, with each generation being better than the one that preceded it. • 15. Stereotypes Of Religion Essay Can you be religious in today's society without being stereotyped? Can you bring up your beliefs in an everyday conversation without being ridiculed? The answer to that is simple, no. In today's society, people are strongly opinionated. Certain individuals believe religion is a filthy word. Should you avoid talking to those types of people about your religion? Should you change what you believe to appease others? Religion has a vast definition. When I think of religion, I think of faith. When I think of faith, I think of our Lord and Savior. Does that mean everyone else in the world comes to the same conclusion? No, not at all, because we all have different beliefs. I have been going to church ever since I was a child. My beliefs have Get more content on HelpWriting.net

If it is the way I strongly feel about something, it has to do with my ethics and the way in which I was brought up. All the beliefs and values that I have make up the person that I am today. If another person were to tell me otherwise, that my beliefs are wrong or even force change upon my beliefs, then I would be assimilated. Everyone's personal beliefs would be more or less the same and then no individual would be unique anymore. People would lose the ability to think without emotion and beliefs, and thus life would quickly lose its value. Belief has two components – to believe in, which is one's faith, and to believe that, which is one's emotions. To believe in yourself wuld be to have faith in yourself. Faith, to believe in, has certain expectations unlike "to believe that". No ideas or beliefs in our minds can exist without being known. How can you believe in something that you do not even know? If I did not know what snow is, how is it that I can believe that it will snow tomorrow? • 17. My Culture, Values, And Beliefs Values and beliefs are what every living human being possesses, whether we are conscious about it or not. They impact how we live through day by day, how we make decisions and interact with society. We possess these values and beliefs commonly from our parents, friends and others who are close to us as we continue to grow and learn. Some of the values and beliefs that I find are more important to me are family, respect, ethnicity and openness. Family is what I value the most, they are always there for me through good and bad times. They are my support source and I can always count on them for when I am troubled. I unquestionably inherited this value from my parents as well as my culture (Filipino), for it is known to be very family orientated and to the very extent, loyal. My parents are my first teachers, teaching me what is acceptable and what is not, how the world works and most importantly, respect. Respect is another value that I have also inherited from my parents and culture. In the Filipino culture, respect is very important, especially towards those who are older than you. The use of honorifics is extremely crucial when addressing people who are not of the same age otherwise it comes off as rude and disrespectful, similarly to other Asian countries like Japan. • 18. My Values And Beliefs Of Nursing Philosophy of Nursing Everyone's values and beliefs about the profession of nursing are all different. The four concepts of nursing are interrelated and all mean something different to every person, too. Throughout this paper, I will be reflecting on my values and beliefs about nursing through the four concepts while comparing them to a nursing theorist with views that are most similar to my own. My Values and Beliefs of Nursing I choose nursing as my future career because I enjoy working with others, helping others feel better, and educating people. These three topics are all involved in what nursing is. I believe that nursing is focused on the holistic care of individuals and their families in order to achieve and maintain an optimal level of health, a great quality of life, and comfort. This is done through the promoting healthy living, providing a safe environment, preventing illness, and the caring for the individual and the family. My Views of the Nursing Concepts After evaluating what the nursing concepts mean to me, I found that they are most similar to Florence Nightingale's theory. For the first concept of nursing, I think it is the holistic care of individuals to provide an optimal level of health and function, comfort, safety, and education. With holistic care, nurses focus on the mind, body, and spirit. Not only does nursing deal with caring for the individual, but also education is a large part of nursing. To me, the second concept of nursing, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

To answer the question of man's inherent evilness or goodness is to assume that one believes that man is one or the other. In the article, "Good andEvil, The Nature of the Soul," author Laura Aversano describes man's relationship withgood and evil this way: The soul stemming from stillness, creates a unified relationship between good and evil at its essential core and understanding from the way that God intended. As the collective and personal soul unfolds into various levels, good and evil takes on its own form within the various levels of understanding. Good and evil become personified from ego levels and spiritual levels and their forms become integrated into spiritual and human realities simply so that we can learn from them, become greater human and spiritual beings, and allow them to come back into balance to the highest degree possible under God without any interference from our human and spiritual attachments and attainments. Thus, the concepts of good and evil are there for our understanding, as is the soul. Under spiritual laws, they will Get more content on HelpWriting.net
