Possible Solutions To College Drinking Problem
With the face pace of everyday life in our society, many times we as individuals are more focused on the end result vs the process it takes to get there.
When discussing issues between multiple parties, most people just want the facts and concerns, and then they jump straight to their ideal solution. The
thought behind this method is that the more ideas one can produce, the higher the chance and agreeable solution is found. However, the problem with
this method is that both parties are more focused on HOW to fix the problem, instead of WHY the problem exists. The key to a successful deliberation
is that instead of focusing on how to fix something, the focus must instead by on what causes the problem, and why does it exist.
If we as a society would spend more time focusing on why something happens, not only would we become more productive in our everyday
discussion of issues; but we would also decrease the number of conflicts that stem from a difference in opinion on the root cause of various issues.
For example, in the deliberation I attended, we focused entirely on the WHY behind college drinking, instead of debating HOW to solve it. It would
be useless to attempt to debate a solution, as every different view point would have their own "ideal solution". However, the group was able to come
together and have a productive conversation on why college students drink....show more content...
To say that the system is clunky would be an understatement. Using an interface that looks, and acts, like it has not been upgraded since 2000, was
not a step in the right direction for our university. I am aware that due to certain factors, the university was unable to continue using elion, however
there must be a better option out there. Deliberation would be a perfect tool to use with this issue, because it focuses on the root of the

College Costs Essay
College Costs
Introduction
It's no secret that financing a college education is getting tougher. College costs have skyrocketed over the past decade or so, and there's no relief in
sight. Average tuition at four–year colleges will increase 7 percent this school year, double the rate of inflation. Student aid is not increasing fast enough
to plug the growing gap between tuition and family finances. In addition, there is a growing number of older students entering college today. These
students have families that they need to support. I know, because I am a family man who has returned to school. I wish to finish my degree at the

Still, $15700 is a lot of dollars for an unemployed family man or woman with little or no income.
The Cost Of Living Factor
Though the Cost Of Living is not directly related to tuition it is still a major player in the decision making process. Is it possible to maintain a family
financial structure while paying for an education? The cost of a mortgage, or rent, and other bills that are associated with living adds up to many
thousands of dollars per year. These costs in addition to what the tuition, books, and supplies total are expected, and have to be dealt with.
The financial burden alone can seem over–whelming to some. But let us consider what the total cost of living and attending a four year private
institution are. The Bureau of Census statistics for the County of Monroe indicate "that the approximate average income for a family of four is
$50964.
The poverty level for a family of four is approximately $15455". These are statistics calculated for the 1995 calendar year. No newer statistics
were available. With these statistics in mind we can then determine the financial model we must follow. This model will determine what the total
yearly outlay a family of four must shoulder in order to send a person to RIT.
The Financial Burden

What is the Purpose of College? Essay example
A college education gives a person the opportunity to be successful in life, either financially or morally dependent on the goals that they set for their
life. They will choose a college that offer programs for the major of their choice, where they will specialize and receive a degree. The decision to
pursue a higher education will give the opportunity to earn a better income over someone who does not have a degree. College is more of life

Today's world economies are so tied together and react to one another that only the brightest and smartest will survive. The better educated a student is

President Barack Obama said "In this kind of economy, countries who out–educate us today will out–compete us tomorrow. Already, China is

What is the Impact of Stress on University Students Academic Performance?
1. EXPLANATION OF RESEARCH TOPIC
1.1 Purposes of Research Topic
Newth (2011) claims that modern day stress seems to be more widespread than ever causing interference with human intellect, emotional and
interpersonal functioning. Therefore; I suggest that students will encounter stress and it will impact their academic performance. In this fast pace and
performance driven society each organization needs well performing people. The only way we will know what people require to become productive
and less stressed is to explore topics as my research question. The topic...show more content...
Which collects the health statistics of students from universities all around the world every second year, reported that 40.2 percent of Santa Clara
University students identified that stress affected their individual academic performance during the last 12 months of their studies (Temple,2011).
Temple (2011) reported a survey conducted in 2004 that assessed the overall well–being of 47,202 undergraduates nationwide. The findings were that
32.4 percent of students recognized stress as the main obstacle to their academic performance. This was said to be above the common cold,
depression, death of a relative, sexual assault and eating disorders. Stress is "once considered as the nation's number one health epidemic; prolonged
stress can lead to ulcers, heart disease, stroke, major depression and to a shorter life span" (Temple, 2011).
Based on these findings from research done previously I feel that this study is important. Firstly, we need to understand what causes the stressors and
how it affects the individual. For example, if you have an entire university with stressed students, not being productive, not performing well
academically perhaps thinking of dropping out of university because of the overwhelming anxiety; it can be detrimental to the institution in terms of
status and students in terms of individual realisation. Secondly, we soon have to formulate effective and efficient stress management guidelines as we

It is difficult to imagine a college bound senior making the big decision on where to attend college without the help of college rankings and family
influence. Making such an important decision requires heavy research for the college bound student, and it is no surprise that college rankings are one
of the first places students look for advice on their future school. Many high school seniors are concerned with the rankings, the "image", or school
pride associated with colleges. As seniors question which school is the best and strive to meet the admissions standards that seem to continually
increase, it is important to question whether or not the quality of education is better at colleges with higher rankings and admissions standards. The

Although a seemingly long list, these qualities reflect realistic traits of colleges that are more important to the future of the student rather than the
selectivity and rankings of colleges and the intelligence of the admitted students. Many students, parents, and teachers hold that rankings and
admissions standards are important when selecting a college and deem that the higher a college is ranked, the better quality of education it provides.
There also is a belief that there is a positive correlation between rankings and its' ability to predict the quality of education such as, "the harder it is to
get accepted into a school means that it is a better school and will provide a better education". The historical context and prestige of a college also is
thought to contribute to it being a better school because it would appear to be well established. Using the three main Florida universities, University of
Florida (UF), University of Central Florida (UCF), and Florida State University (FSU), and the assumption that rankings DO predict the quality of
education, it is believed by many that UF offers the best education, then FSU, and lastly UCF. Many students believe that rankings are important when

Pros And Cons Of College Essay
As pounded in our heads by teachers and adults, after high school the best idea is to go to college. This may not be the case for everyone. There are
many pros and cons for college. College is not for everyone, and I believe students should have the freedom to choose the path they take. For people
who desire to acquire a well paying job, a degree may be required. Most data points that the fastest growing job categories require at least a college
degree. Getting a degree can be as simple as going for 2 years or even 6. Getting a college degree will draw employers attention and gain respect. Some
people who have a degree may get paid more at their job than others who do not. Expanding your knowledge is important as there is always more to
learn. In my opinion, college is the best idea for any age student.
When planning your future, you can decide between a two–year community college or a four–year university. You can base your decision depending on
your career field or job you want to pursue. Some jobs may not even require a degree, in which college is unnecessary. Some jobs may only require an
associate's degree, so why waste your money at a university. Some may say that the experience at a four–year university is critical to growing up. Mr.
Perlstein states, "the college experience– a rite of passage as it was meant to be– must have come to an end." Rick Perlstein believes that the four–year
experience is meaningful. At a four–year, you may experience more diversity, and

Persuasive Speech : Why Should College Be Free?
Specific purpose: At the end of the speech, students will be persuaded that college should be free. Central idea: Three reasons why college should be
free: First, tuition and debt leads to attempted suicides. Second, the student and their family are affected by higher tuition cost. Third, high tuition
fees diminish the amount of qualified job seekers in the career market. Introduction: 5 a.m. The alarm clock rings, on a normal day you would dread
waking up so early. But today, is not your normal average day. Monday, August 21st, 2017, is the beginning of your first day of a new journey of
college as a freshman; the nerves of the unknown lingers on as you sat in the classroom, awaiting your professor arrival. Suddenly, the door swung
open and a tall, muscular, Caucasian male walked in, commanding the class attention by his demeanor. The nervousness intensifies as he proceeded to
call on the attendance. This is it people! the moment everyone, including your family, have been waiting for; first–generation of your lineage to attend
college. Name by name each student signified their attendance by raising their right arm when called upon, but, there's a problem, your name was
not called on. What? How can it be? There's no way! you are overcome with complete and absolute shock; realizing you've been dropped from your
classes due to financial aid issue. To continue enrolling, you would have to pay out of pocket. The excitement that was there before, no longer remains.
Countless number of young adults are overwhelmed with the reality of college and paying for an education. For many students, each year, they are the
recipient of such a catastrophic experience. Unfortunately, I was the victim of this heart–rending incident; imagine a society where financial aid and
student loans did not exist, but instead, the necessity of these financial programs would diminish because college tuition would be free. My speech
will be divided into two parts. The first part of my speech will be the problems of college tuition many students face. The second part will be solutions
to these problems. At the end of my speech, I hope to persuade my fellow classmates that college tuition should be free. I.For many students, the stress

COMM101 Reflective Paper– My top 10 takeaways from COMM101
Coming into UBC I had no idea of what to expect from the capstone course of Sauder. On the first day, Jeff said that everything would connect in the
end; I didn't realize how true that is until now. He meant that every bit and piece in the course was literally interconnected with not just class concepts
but to the entire business world. Throughout the term, I not only learned about business fundamentals, but life and people skills as well. Presenting
ideas, pitching, teamwork and just making an argument in general were simple yet essential skills that I picked up and refined. Getting a feel for
all the different disciplines Sauder has to offer was a given, but processing those soft kills were my biggest takeaway yet. Honestly speaking, coming
into Sauder, I was sure about business as a career. However, I always had an interest in political science at the back of my mind. Leaving this course, I
now know that a career in both is something definitely achievable. With the numerous guest speakers as well as the US election that happened
simultaneously throughout the term I learned that business and politics could be blended into a diverse field of opportunities; given that I put in more
than I expect and work hard.
TOOLKIT
Building my business toolkit throughout the term was fascinating. I was initially skeptical that the toolkit we learned in class could be applicable to
businesses of all sizes, from real corporations

Swimming has been a passion of mine since age four. The adrenaline and the screaming of the fans in a race made me love the sport even more. In
the thirteen years that I have been swimming, I never gave up my passion or drive to swim. Even from the countless times I thought of quitting
because it became too tough, I persevered and just kept on swimming. To me, swimming is not just an extracurricular activity or a sport, it is a way of
life.
The first swim team I joined was a local private pool team, five minutes from my house. After the first week of practice, I was hooked. My first
season I made many friends and learned I was not an awful swimmer. The next year I grew bigger and stronger, and became better at the sport. In
summer swimming, there are three championship meets, Divisionals, All–stars, and Mid–Caps. As a five year old, in my second year of swimming, I
made it to Mid–Caps, in a relay. I did not medal that year, but it taught me that I had to keep working vigorously to achieve my goal. My goal was
achieved when I was eight, when I achieved first place in the twenty–five backstroke. As I progressed to higher levels of swimming, including high
school, I experienced the true meaning about swimming.

Persuasive Essay On Choosing A College
Deciding on a college is a stressful time in any student's life. All students deal with stress about their future after high school, regardless of whether
they plan for college or not. Some may think that students are making the decision into something more difficult than it has to be; however, this is an
incredibly important time in any student's life. It entails a lot of thought. Like putting on makeup, deciding on a school requires effort and creativity,
but both can show who a person is. Choosing a school requires hard work and preparation, creativity for students to express themselves, and freedom to
decide exactly what they want. To qualify for certain colleges, students must be focused throughout high school. Some schools can be selective on who
they accept while others have high acceptance rates; some schools require classes that others do not. Students need to put in the effort and dedication
to qualify for the schools they believe would be the best fit. For these students, grades are not something they can only put partial effort into. To
maintain their grades, students keep track of their assignments and work hard throughout all of high school. Students get the option to be creative
while choosing their schools because whatever school is chosen will be used to express themselves. After choosing a school, the student will strongly
align themselves with that school. Schools offer merchandise because when students like a school they want to represent it; thus proves that many
people use schools' names or logos as a means to express themselves. However, for prospective students finding a school to align with can be stressful.
They have to know exactly what traits they desire. One thing people may consider: community college or university. Some go to community college
because they are unsure of their major; some go to trade schools because they only want to learn skills for a certain job; some go straight to a
four–year university; some students do not go to any college. A person's choice in their education depends on their personal preferences: how much
work they are willing to put in, who they want to align with, and freedom to choose what they want to do.
Similarly, makeup requires a lot of

Should Every Student Go to College?
Now a days there's a lot of pressure for high school graduates to further their education by attending college. Hard evidence states that more high
school graduates attend college immediately after graduation compared to any other generation. However, college may seem more of a challenge to
some rather than others whom may "need" vocational school. Getting an education is important but some say college isn't for everyone. In the article
"What's Wrong with Vocational School?" Charles Murray says that not every student is mentally suitable for college and vocational school would

Upon doing research on Charles Murray it was discovered that he went to Harvard, which may make one doubt the validity of his argument.
Another faulty is that a man who went to such a prestigious school will have a different expectation than someone who went to the University of
New Hampshire for example. Of course he doesn't think college is for everyone because not everyone may be able to make it through a college as
vigorous as Harvard. Anyone that attends Harvard has some amount of talent but "anything below an IQ of 110 is problematic...if you want to do
well [in college], you should have an IQ of 115 or higher" (Kirszner, Mandell 677). By making this statement, one can doubt his arguments validity;
he may be making too high of an expectation for the "qualifying" student academically college abled and underestimating the "unqualified" college
student that should try two years of vocational school before attempting a four year college. Millar, who did not attend an Ivy League school like
Murray, and did an exceptionally well job of convincing her readers by stating facts with opinions. If a woman who went to UCLA can do that, than
Murray may be overestimating college and adding more insult than encouragement. If a parent has a child with an IQ less than that of a "qualifying"
one, then Murray may appear discriminatory towards an audience that is associated

Causes And Effects Of College Dropouts
Causes and Effects of College Dropouts
Life is believed to be easier for people with higher degrees than for those without higher degrees. Hence, it is the joy of parents to see their children
admitted into a higher institution. With the high cost attached to attending a four year university, most students prefer to attend community colleges.
Community colleges provide the same quality of education offered by universities for the first two years at a lower cost which help students reduce
debts toward getting their higher degree. However, compared to the number of students who started their first year in community colleges, a large
percentage dropped out. This is common to both freshly graduated high school students and adults who came back to college to obtain a degree.
Students drop out of colleges because of financial issues and the need to take remedial courses. As a result, they have self esteem issues and may
remain poor.
Students drop out of colleges because of financial issues. Although some students get financial aid, it is not enough to pay for the expenses attached to
getting a college degree. Students need money to buy textbooks which are highly expensive. Most courses required assignments to be taken online in
which students must purchase a pass code. They also need money to pay their bills, take transportation to schools, and buy other items for personal
needs. Due to financial constraint, most students have to work in addition to attending school. Students get

My Dream Of Becoming A College Graduate
As a young adult, I was married, had two children, divorced, and lost both of my parents all before I hit the age of twenty five. My dream of going
to college and being a successful Marketing Manager vanished like a thick fog on a hot summers day. I briefly attended the Community College
of Vermont, while balancing kids, marriage, and a job, but after my first semester of only two classes, reality set in. Soon thereafter tragedy struck,
which took my life in a completely different direction than I had desired. Instead of being a college graduate, I became an overwhelmed blue
collar worker, uneducated, and financially impoverished. Not only did I fail to believe in myself, nobody else did either and that pushed me into a
state of despair and depression. I was lost, just floating around like a dandelion seed in a brisk fall wind. Contemplating my options in life, I
somehow found the courage to move forward. I tackled my negatives by turning them into positives, while viewing each success as a stepping stone
towards a brighter future. My insatiable thirst for excellence commenced, a new dream originated, and I changed the direction of my life. My
eagerness provided a variety of adventures, opportunities, and new challenges. I entertained the possibility of being a teacher because of my experience
as a substitute teacher and various promotions that followed in the educational field. It was rewarding but not my calling. I needed diversity, intensity,
and thundering challenges. I

Possible Solutions To College Drinking Problem

  • 1. Possible Solutions To College Drinking Problem With the face pace of everyday life in our society, many times we as individuals are more focused on the end result vs the process it takes to get there. When discussing issues between multiple parties, most people just want the facts and concerns, and then they jump straight to their ideal solution. The thought behind this method is that the more ideas one can produce, the higher the chance and agreeable solution is found. However, the problem with this method is that both parties are more focused on HOW to fix the problem, instead of WHY the problem exists. The key to a successful deliberation is that instead of focusing on how to fix something, the focus must instead by on what causes the problem, and why does it exist. If we as a society would spend more time focusing on why something happens, not only would we become more productive in our everyday discussion of issues; but we would also decrease the number of conflicts that stem from a difference in opinion on the root cause of various issues. For example, in the deliberation I attended, we focused entirely on the WHY behind college drinking, instead of debating HOW to solve it. It would be useless to attempt to debate a solution, as every different view point would have their own "ideal solution". However, the group was able to come together and have a productive conversation on why college students drink....show more content... To say that the system is clunky would be an understatement. Using an interface that looks, and acts, like it has not been upgraded since 2000, was not a step in the right direction for our university. I am aware that due to certain factors, the university was unable to continue using elion, however there must be a better option out there. Deliberation would be a perfect tool to use with this issue, because it focuses on the root of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. College Costs Essay College Costs Introduction It's no secret that financing a college education is getting tougher. College costs have skyrocketed over the past decade or so, and there's no relief in sight. Average tuition at four–year colleges will increase 7 percent this school year, double the rate of inflation. Student aid is not increasing fast enough to plug the growing gap between tuition and family finances. In addition, there is a growing number of older students entering college today. These students have families that they need to support. I know, because I am a family man who has returned to school. I wish to finish my degree at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The only...show more content... Still, $15700 is a lot of dollars for an unemployed family man or woman with little or no income. The Cost Of Living Factor Though the Cost Of Living is not directly related to tuition it is still a major player in the decision making process. Is it possible to maintain a family financial structure while paying for an education? The cost of a mortgage, or rent, and other bills that are associated with living adds up to many thousands of dollars per year. These costs in addition to what the tuition, books, and supplies total are expected, and have to be dealt with. The financial burden alone can seem over–whelming to some. But let us consider what the total cost of living and attending a four year private institution are. The Bureau of Census statistics for the County of Monroe indicate "that the approximate average income for a family of four is $50964. The poverty level for a family of four is approximately $15455". These are statistics calculated for the 1995 calendar year. No newer statistics were available. With these statistics in mind we can then determine the financial model we must follow. This model will determine what the total yearly outlay a family of four must shoulder in order to send a person to RIT. The Financial Burden

  • 4. What is the Purpose of College? Essay example A college education gives a person the opportunity to be successful in life, either financially or morally dependent on the goals that they set for their life. They will choose a college that offer programs for the major of their choice, where they will specialize and receive a degree. The decision to pursue a higher education will give the opportunity to earn a better income over someone who does not have a degree. College is more of life preparation course that will help make sure a successful career. If a person pursues a career in engineering, physics or mathematics their curriculum would include more liberal art preparation courses, in order for them to earn their degree, so someone pursuing a degree in these types of careers are ...show more content... Today's world economies are so tied together and react to one another that only the brightest and smartest will survive. The better educated a student is in the specific career that they have chosen to earn a degree in will give them the educated edge so that they can out compete with foreign markets. President Barack Obama said "In this kind of economy, countries who out–educate us today will out–compete us tomorrow. Already, China is graduating eight times as many engineers as we are. By 12th grade, our children score lower on math and science tests than most other kids in the world," ("Full"). American colleges need to do a better job at improving math and science scores so that the graduating student can better compete in the world market Asian countries are continuously outperforming American students. Gary W. Phillips, chief scientist at the American Institutes of Research said "In this case, the bad news trumps the good because our Asian economic competitors are winning the race to prepare students in math and science," (Dillon). The better colleges prepare students to edge out competitors in the world market needs to be their priority. Secondly the purpose of a college education is to meet the student's liberal art's needs so that they can compete and give them a well–rounded education that will enable them to earn Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Nicole Kada Philip Broster Business Communications 27 April 2012 Research Proposal What is the Impact of Stress on University Students Academic Performance? 1. EXPLANATION OF RESEARCH TOPIC 1.1 Purposes of Research Topic Newth (2011) claims that modern day stress seems to be more widespread than ever causing interference with human intellect, emotional and interpersonal functioning. Therefore; I suggest that students will encounter stress and it will impact their academic performance. In this fast pace and performance driven society each organization needs well performing people. The only way we will know what people require to become productive and less stressed is to explore topics as my research question. The topic...show more content... Which collects the health statistics of students from universities all around the world every second year, reported that 40.2 percent of Santa Clara University students identified that stress affected their individual academic performance during the last 12 months of their studies (Temple,2011). Temple (2011) reported a survey conducted in 2004 that assessed the overall well–being of 47,202 undergraduates nationwide. The findings were that 32.4 percent of students recognized stress as the main obstacle to their academic performance. This was said to be above the common cold, depression, death of a relative, sexual assault and eating disorders. Stress is "once considered as the nation's number one health epidemic; prolonged stress can lead to ulcers, heart disease, stroke, major depression and to a shorter life span" (Temple, 2011). Based on these findings from research done previously I feel that this study is important. Firstly, we need to understand what causes the stressors and how it affects the individual. For example, if you have an entire university with stressed students, not being productive, not performing well academically perhaps thinking of dropping out of university because of the overwhelming anxiety; it can be detrimental to the institution in terms of status and students in terms of individual realisation. Secondly, we soon have to formulate effective and efficient stress management guidelines as we

  • 7. The American Community College It is difficult to imagine a college bound senior making the big decision on where to attend college without the help of college rankings and family influence. Making such an important decision requires heavy research for the college bound student, and it is no surprise that college rankings are one of the first places students look for advice on their future school. Many high school seniors are concerned with the rankings, the "image", or school pride associated with colleges. As seniors question which school is the best and strive to meet the admissions standards that seem to continually increase, it is important to question whether or not the quality of education is better at colleges with higher rankings and admissions standards. The ...show more content... Although a seemingly long list, these qualities reflect realistic traits of colleges that are more important to the future of the student rather than the selectivity and rankings of colleges and the intelligence of the admitted students. Many students, parents, and teachers hold that rankings and admissions standards are important when selecting a college and deem that the higher a college is ranked, the better quality of education it provides. There also is a belief that there is a positive correlation between rankings and its' ability to predict the quality of education such as, "the harder it is to get accepted into a school means that it is a better school and will provide a better education". The historical context and prestige of a college also is thought to contribute to it being a better school because it would appear to be well established. Using the three main Florida universities, University of Florida (UF), University of Central Florida (UCF), and Florida State University (FSU), and the assumption that rankings DO predict the quality of education, it is believed by many that UF offers the best education, then FSU, and lastly UCF. Many students believe that rankings are important when selecting a school Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Pros And Cons Of College Essay As pounded in our heads by teachers and adults, after high school the best idea is to go to college. This may not be the case for everyone. There are many pros and cons for college. College is not for everyone, and I believe students should have the freedom to choose the path they take. For people who desire to acquire a well paying job, a degree may be required. Most data points that the fastest growing job categories require at least a college degree. Getting a degree can be as simple as going for 2 years or even 6. Getting a college degree will draw employers attention and gain respect. Some people who have a degree may get paid more at their job than others who do not. Expanding your knowledge is important as there is always more to learn. In my opinion, college is the best idea for any age student. When planning your future, you can decide between a two–year community college or a four–year university. You can base your decision depending on your career field or job you want to pursue. Some jobs may not even require a degree, in which college is unnecessary. Some jobs may only require an associate's degree, so why waste your money at a university. Some may say that the experience at a four–year university is critical to growing up. Mr. Perlstein states, "the college experience– a rite of passage as it was meant to be– must have come to an end." Rick Perlstein believes that the four–year experience is meaningful. At a four–year, you may experience more diversity, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Persuasive Speech : Why Should College Be Free? Specific purpose: At the end of the speech, students will be persuaded that college should be free. Central idea: Three reasons why college should be free: First, tuition and debt leads to attempted suicides. Second, the student and their family are affected by higher tuition cost. Third, high tuition fees diminish the amount of qualified job seekers in the career market. Introduction: 5 a.m. The alarm clock rings, on a normal day you would dread waking up so early. But today, is not your normal average day. Monday, August 21st, 2017, is the beginning of your first day of a new journey of college as a freshman; the nerves of the unknown lingers on as you sat in the classroom, awaiting your professor arrival. Suddenly, the door swung open and a tall, muscular, Caucasian male walked in, commanding the class attention by his demeanor. The nervousness intensifies as he proceeded to call on the attendance. This is it people! the moment everyone, including your family, have been waiting for; first–generation of your lineage to attend college. Name by name each student signified their attendance by raising their right arm when called upon, but, there's a problem, your name was not called on. What? How can it be? There's no way! you are overcome with complete and absolute shock; realizing you've been dropped from your classes due to financial aid issue. To continue enrolling, you would have to pay out of pocket. The excitement that was there before, no longer remains. Countless number of young adults are overwhelmed with the reality of college and paying for an education. For many students, each year, they are the recipient of such a catastrophic experience. Unfortunately, I was the victim of this heart–rending incident; imagine a society where financial aid and student loans did not exist, but instead, the necessity of these financial programs would diminish because college tuition would be free. My speech will be divided into two parts. The first part of my speech will be the problems of college tuition many students face. The second part will be solutions to these problems. At the end of my speech, I hope to persuade my fellow classmates that college tuition should be free. I.For many students, the stress that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. COMM101 Reflective Paper– My top 10 takeaways from COMM101 Coming into UBC I had no idea of what to expect from the capstone course of Sauder. On the first day, Jeff said that everything would connect in the end; I didn't realize how true that is until now. He meant that every bit and piece in the course was literally interconnected with not just class concepts but to the entire business world. Throughout the term, I not only learned about business fundamentals, but life and people skills as well. Presenting ideas, pitching, teamwork and just making an argument in general were simple yet essential skills that I picked up and refined. Getting a feel for all the different disciplines Sauder has to offer was a given, but processing those soft kills were my biggest takeaway yet. Honestly speaking, coming into Sauder, I was sure about business as a career. However, I always had an interest in political science at the back of my mind. Leaving this course, I now know that a career in both is something definitely achievable. With the numerous guest speakers as well as the US election that happened simultaneously throughout the term I learned that business and politics could be blended into a diverse field of opportunities; given that I put in more than I expect and work hard. TOOLKIT Building my business toolkit throughout the term was fascinating. I was initially skeptical that the toolkit we learned in class could be applicable to businesses of all sizes, from real corporations Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Swimming has been a passion of mine since age four. The adrenaline and the screaming of the fans in a race made me love the sport even more. In the thirteen years that I have been swimming, I never gave up my passion or drive to swim. Even from the countless times I thought of quitting because it became too tough, I persevered and just kept on swimming. To me, swimming is not just an extracurricular activity or a sport, it is a way of life. The first swim team I joined was a local private pool team, five minutes from my house. After the first week of practice, I was hooked. My first season I made many friends and learned I was not an awful swimmer. The next year I grew bigger and stronger, and became better at the sport. In summer swimming, there are three championship meets, Divisionals, All–stars, and Mid–Caps. As a five year old, in my second year of swimming, I made it to Mid–Caps, in a relay. I did not medal that year, but it taught me that I had to keep working vigorously to achieve my goal. My goal was achieved when I was eight, when I achieved first place in the twenty–five backstroke. As I progressed to higher levels of swimming, including high school, I experienced the true meaning about swimming. Sweat dripping down my...show more content... • 12. Persuasive Essay On Choosing A College Deciding on a college is a stressful time in any student's life. All students deal with stress about their future after high school, regardless of whether they plan for college or not. Some may think that students are making the decision into something more difficult than it has to be; however, this is an incredibly important time in any student's life. It entails a lot of thought. Like putting on makeup, deciding on a school requires effort and creativity, but both can show who a person is. Choosing a school requires hard work and preparation, creativity for students to express themselves, and freedom to decide exactly what they want. To qualify for certain colleges, students must be focused throughout high school. Some schools can be selective on who they accept while others have high acceptance rates; some schools require classes that others do not. Students need to put in the effort and dedication to qualify for the schools they believe would be the best fit. For these students, grades are not something they can only put partial effort into. To maintain their grades, students keep track of their assignments and work hard throughout all of high school. Students get the option to be creative while choosing their schools because whatever school is chosen will be used to express themselves. After choosing a school, the student will strongly align themselves with that school. Schools offer merchandise because when students like a school they want to represent it; thus proves that many people use schools' names or logos as a means to express themselves. However, for prospective students finding a school to align with can be stressful. They have to know exactly what traits they desire. One thing people may consider: community college or university. Some go to community college because they are unsure of their major; some go to trade schools because they only want to learn skills for a certain job; some go straight to a four–year university; some students do not go to any college. A person's choice in their education depends on their personal preferences: how much work they are willing to put in, who they want to align with, and freedom to choose what they want to do. • 13. College Essay Topics College Essay Topic "B" Most students like myself may have hundreds of interests, or just one core interest that they prefer to specify in. One of my main interests since I was a younger child has always been law, I am intrigued by the law and the enforcement of the law. However enforcing it wouldn't suit me as much as interpreting the law may do just that, having the ability to actually step into the court room. I enjoy the professionalism and maturity that takes place in that environment, everyone for the most part acts like an adult. I always find myself entertained with current events, news articles, and even television shows that are based on criminal justice, and law enforcement. The career in law can be a long road and can be really ...show more content... There is not much that you can put in front of me that I don't have the ability to dissect and solve, I pride myself in doing it. Challenges are my thing, my pet peeve is when someone, usually of higher authority has the audacity to say that I am unable to achieve my goals, and it drives me to push forward toward my goals, and accomplish the task at hand. I have a complete understanding that nothing in life comes easy, and that there will always be bumps in the road and "uneasy sailing". It's all about how you choose to respond to adversity, and how you will rise to the occasion. In this world nothing gives me a feeling of triumph more than the feeling of success and accomplishment, this is a characteristic I have developed from one of my main role models Russell Richardson, who is my father. His life is a prime example of adversity, but he has never let that affect me or my family, and I have great respect for him because of it. He always does an exceptional job of leading by example. I want to follow in my father's footsteps when it comes to his work ethic and perseverance, and take the ceiling that my father set for me and my siblings and raise that bar for my future kids and family. Excellence is always the goal, higher living is the dream, and hard work is the plan. Nothing can stop me from what I want to do, you're either with me or against me, those who Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. should everyone go to college? Should Every Student Go to College? Now a days there's a lot of pressure for high school graduates to further their education by attending college. Hard evidence states that more high school graduates attend college immediately after graduation compared to any other generation. However, college may seem more of a challenge to some rather than others whom may "need" vocational school. Getting an education is important but some say college isn't for everyone. In the article "What's Wrong with Vocational School?" Charles Murray says that not every student is mentally suitable for college and vocational school would prepare them for the vigorous academic demands that come along with college. To critically analyze if thisargument is effective...show more content... Upon doing research on Charles Murray it was discovered that he went to Harvard, which may make one doubt the validity of his argument. Another faulty is that a man who went to such a prestigious school will have a different expectation than someone who went to the University of New Hampshire for example. Of course he doesn't think college is for everyone because not everyone may be able to make it through a college as vigorous as Harvard. Anyone that attends Harvard has some amount of talent but "anything below an IQ of 110 is problematic...if you want to do well [in college], you should have an IQ of 115 or higher" (Kirszner, Mandell 677). By making this statement, one can doubt his arguments validity; he may be making too high of an expectation for the "qualifying" student academically college abled and underestimating the "unqualified" college student that should try two years of vocational school before attempting a four year college. Millar, who did not attend an Ivy League school like Murray, and did an exceptionally well job of convincing her readers by stating facts with opinions. If a woman who went to UCLA can do that, than Murray may be overestimating college and adding more insult than encouragement. If a parent has a child with an IQ less than that of a "qualifying" one, then Murray may appear discriminatory towards an audience that is associated Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Causes And Effects Of College Dropouts Causes and Effects of College Dropouts Life is believed to be easier for people with higher degrees than for those without higher degrees. Hence, it is the joy of parents to see their children admitted into a higher institution. With the high cost attached to attending a four year university, most students prefer to attend community colleges. Community colleges provide the same quality of education offered by universities for the first two years at a lower cost which help students reduce debts toward getting their higher degree. However, compared to the number of students who started their first year in community colleges, a large percentage dropped out. This is common to both freshly graduated high school students and adults who came back to college to obtain a degree. Students drop out of colleges because of financial issues and the need to take remedial courses. As a result, they have self esteem issues and may remain poor. Students drop out of colleges because of financial issues. Although some students get financial aid, it is not enough to pay for the expenses attached to getting a college degree. Students need money to buy textbooks which are highly expensive. Most courses required assignments to be taken online in which students must purchase a pass code. They also need money to pay their bills, take transportation to schools, and buy other items for personal needs. Due to financial constraint, most students have to work in addition to attending school. Students get Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. College Essay On Determination I believe in determination, which is what helps me conquer even the hardest obstacles in life. I have come to find that I am most determined when it comes to school; pushing myself beyond the limits. For example, each year at my school, I am given the task of picking out the classes I want to take. This seems like a simple task; however, I am determined to push myself past the requirements. As this one sheet of paper sits in front of me, I sweat about how I will get through my tougher classes and balance my activities after school. That's when my determination kicks in. I put in my headphones, listen to "Determinate" by Lemonade Mouth, and then I learn how to take life's obstacles step by step and eventually fulfill all my simple and tough...show more content... The first tournament I got up to speak, I remember the judge looking directly at me; their eyes seemed to pierce through my core. Hands shaking, bile gathering in my throat, and almost tripping, I walked up to the front. I began giving my speech and before I knew it, I was done. It didn't seem that bad after I started talking and I was sure I could place. Well, I rarely won anything throughout all my middle school years, and when I did, I got dead last from the top 8. I know, it's disappointing. Most people would think about quitting with such a low success rate, but I came back 9th grade. After picking myself up, I was determined to change my success story. I ended up getting 3rd at state in 9th and 10th grade. In fact, I got first for speaking at state student congress too. I used my determination to push through my rough, intimidated self and accomplish my goals. Now, not only did my determination make this my favorite activity, but it also gave confidence while public speaking. Determination doesn't just kick in for school and school related activities, but even the little aspects of life. I was determined to bug my parents for a car, determined to not eat Ramen noodles for my health, and determined to finish this essay. • 19. My Dream Of Becoming A College Graduate As a young adult, I was married, had two children, divorced, and lost both of my parents all before I hit the age of twenty five. My dream of going to college and being a successful Marketing Manager vanished like a thick fog on a hot summers day. I briefly attended the Community College of Vermont, while balancing kids, marriage, and a job, but after my first semester of only two classes, reality set in. Soon thereafter tragedy struck, which took my life in a completely different direction than I had desired. Instead of being a college graduate, I became an overwhelmed blue collar worker, uneducated, and financially impoverished. Not only did I fail to believe in myself, nobody else did either and that pushed me into a state of despair and depression. I was lost, just floating around like a dandelion seed in a brisk fall wind. Contemplating my options in life, I somehow found the courage to move forward. I tackled my negatives by turning them into positives, while viewing each success as a stepping stone towards a brighter future. My insatiable thirst for excellence commenced, a new dream originated, and I changed the direction of my life. My eagerness provided a variety of adventures, opportunities, and new challenges. I entertained the possibility of being a teacher because of my experience as a substitute teacher and various promotions that followed in the educational field. It was rewarding but not my calling. I needed diversity, intensity, and thundering challenges. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
