2. STUDY OVERVIEW
This survey was conducted online in Singapore by Harris Poll on behalf
of SolarWinds from July 8-15, 2015 among 1,041 adults ages 18 and
older, among whom 658 are employed but not as an IT professional or
executive.

3. KEY FINDINGS
• Four in five (81%) end users identify a type of technology (computer, software,
smartphone or tablet) as among the most important in their daily work life. More
than three in four (62%) say their computer, while 56% say a smartphone, 28%
say software and 10% say a tablet is among the most important in their daily
work life.
• Just over one third (35%) say personnel is among the most important in their
daily work life, with one in ten (10%) indicating administrative assistants, 8%
business operations managers and 7% project managers and 6% HR
professionals.

• Nearly three quarters (72%) say it would take them more time to complete a
typical day’s worth of work without the use of the technology typically maintained
by the IT department or professionals employed by the company in which they
work, with 36% saying one day’s work would take an additional business day or
longer. 16% of employees say it would not be possible to carry out their daily
work without the technology supported by IT professionals.

• Seven in ten (70%) end users say they do not understand or understand only a
little about the role IT professionals employed by their company, beyond helping
them as an end user resolve their technology issues.
• Nearly all (96%) of those who work for a company that employs IT professionals
say they ask for technical help/support from their IT professionals. More than
two in five (44%) ask for help/support from IT professionals monthly or more
frequently.
