2. When I first started to plan my ancillary task I
made sure I familiarised myself with a variety
and range of digipaks that surround my genre
and solo artists for example a digipack of
Rihanna:
3. I also did research into many other digipaks as
well and you can locate these on my blog, the
main reason I researched digipaks it to get a
sense of what a professional one should look
like.
4. I also did the same with many magazine adverts I
researched many to try and get a feel of what one
contains and the key features I would need to add to
mine to make it a professional magazine advert,
below I have embedded a photo taken from my blog
of research I conducted when researching magazine
adverts. I researched into SOURCE and Vibe these
are two magazines that surround my genre
5. After getting a feel of what a magazine
advert should look like I started to think of
ideas that could help me when constructing
my own magazine advert. In addition one of
my main focuses was to create a brand
image because my artist is unsigned I
needed to create a large fan base that can
identify my artist and I could help create this
by a successful digipak so I decided to make
my magazine advert look as professional as
it could to get a good first impression of my
artist to their audience. This made me think
about the image I wanted to portray for my
artist that could stand out to the specific
genre audience
6. Whilst thinking of what my magazine advert
should look like I thought of having my artist
looking very serious so this could show he is
serious about music or have my artist
laughing looking showing he is more laid
back and a happy person. My research also
helped with this as when I was researching
my genre I found many pictures of solo artists
with a close up or mid shot of their face with
no emotion on at all, this led me to believe
that for my genre I needed a image that
made my artist look very serious and direct to
the audience.
I then scheduled a photo shoot with the artist to
try and create the perfect image.
7. After I realised what tone I wanted to create I
then started many trials for my Digipak and
magazine advert. Furthermore, I then started
to create many trials and this helped me
generate audience feedback which I took on
board in hope to create a perfect image that I
wanted to create. Below are my trials.
9. I chose this album cover as it uses a
blue plasma colour with a plasma effect
around it I believe this would be the best
image for my artist as it connotes he is
“out of this world". Also the mid shot
image of my artist helps to show that he
is the main artist and the releaser of the
album with his name below and the
album title, this helps to create a strong
brand image and larger fan base as the
audience now have a name to put with a
face. Also the font used helps give it a
bold outstanding statement this is
pushed in the audiences faces so they
will remember the name.
10. I also chose this specific effect on the
cd as this helps to show the album is
very unique and there is nothing like it.
In addition the image of the artist is
show but there is an effect on so you
cannot make any features clear and
this may stimulate the audience to put
a face with the cd and get them
thinking more about also the artist this
effect also tied in with my theme of the
outer world.
11. I used this specific theme to show the
artist is open to trying new things
associated with the genre and that he
isn’t your average solo artist in the hip
hop/rap genre. Also by using this
theme it would help create a brand
image as people may see this theme
elsewhere and they will still link it to
my artist as it is very unique.
12. The back cover of my album is yet again
using the similar theme used across the
whole digipak. Also the song titles are in a
white font that create a great contrast with
the blue background this helps them to
jump out at the audience and become very
easy to read. Also the use of the twitter
emblem show that that my artist is on twitter
and this helps create synergy and a larger
fan base for my upcoming artist as people
will see this and then follow him on twitter.
Furthermore the use of the 18 certificate is
to show that some of the lyrics and content
on the cd is not for anyone under the age of
18.
13. For my magazine advert I wanted to
create a large brand identity still with a
professional look so I used the same
theme. I believe I executed this
perfectly
14. Whilst creating my magazine advert I
wanted to make it look very formal and
professional and still being able to target
the right genre audience. I decided it
would be in my best interests to use a
magazine company that targets my
genre of music this was it helps my artist
to become more established as people
will see “Hip Hop XXL” and link it with my
artist creating a strong brand
image/identity. Also the text below the
artists name reads “ At the crossroads
with one of raps next superstars” this
helps establish my artist as one of raps
next superstars and this will draw the
audience in and make them want to
know more about the artist as he is
15. I believe that all my products in my
ancillary task look very professional and
help create brand identity and a great
brand image for my upcoming artist.
Moreover, by using the same theme this
helps the audience to familiarise
themselves with the artist.
