5. Personal protective Equipment Emergency Response Plan
Respiratory Protective Equipment - must be used to protect
employees from airborne contaminants which, when measured, are
above the Threshold Limit Value.
Foot Protection (Safety Shoes) - is required to protect employees
working in areas where there is a danger of foot injuries due to
falling or rolling objects, exposure to piercing the sole or where
protection is needed against electrical or chemical hazards.
Hand Protection (Gloves) - as required by established standards
to protect employees from physical, biological, chemical, radiation,
or electrical hazards.
Fall Protection (safety harness, lanyard and lifeline)
As required to protect employees from falling while working at
heights of six (6) feet or more not protected by standard guardrails
or other means.
PPE is equipment worn by a worker to minimize exposure to
specific hazards and it is the last option to control a hazard.
The identified PPEs corresponding to the task are documented
in the PPE matrix of each section.
Gulf Cable has an Emergency Response Plan (ERP) for unexpected
emergencies such as fire and chemical spill (IMS-ES-W01).
An ERP is to be implemented by an adequately trained Emergency
Response Team (ERT).
Before an Emergency:
Become familiar with GC’s Emergency Response Plan available in
your area /location.
Learn how to contact emergency services.

Valves of the cylinder shall be protected by cap.
Cylinder shall always keep on trolley with chain.
connections shall be inspected daily before use using
‘soapy’ solution.
Hoses shall be subjected to frequent checks. Cracked
and damaged hoses shall be discarded.
9. Workplace Hygiene Portable Ladders
In order to avoid contacting and spreading germs, practicing
personal hygiene at your workplace is very important. Not only does
personal hygiene mean showering regularly and wearing clean
clothes it also means doing your best not to spread germs.
Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water before you eat
and after using the restroom.
Never use solvents to clean your hands.
Cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough.
If you get cut or lacerated, make sure you wash the wound
thoroughly with soap and water.
Dirty or soiled clothing should not be worn again without first
being washed.
By practicing good industrial hygiene, you minimize the potential for
unsafe exposures to hazardous substances and for exposing your
loved ones to hazardous substances through cross-contamination.
Smoke, eat, and drink only in designated areas away from areas
where hazardous substances are used or stored.
Protect Your Skin.
Do not mix contaminated clothing with your household laundry
If you splash hazardous substances on your eyes, skin, or
clothing, wash promptly, even if you have no apparent
symptoms.
Remove contact lenses when working in an area where
hazardous vapors are present.
Appropriate and safe portable ladders should be used for the
height to be worked on
Ladders should be inspected frequently for damage or
deterioration
Ensure that the stepladder’s clasps are securely locked prior to
using it
When placing a ladder against the wall, it should be placed at an
angle of about 75°
If possible, fix the top and bottom of the ladder steady with
ropes, etc. If not, provide hand support by another person to the
lower end of the ladder
Place the ladder on a firm, level surface that is not slippery
When not in use, ladders should be removed from the site and
placed at an appropriate storage area
Use good working techniques while climbing, working from or
descending a ladder:
Facing front and both hands on the handrail (maintain 3
point Contact)
No adjustment while standing on the ladder
Only one worker to work or climb at one time
10. First Aid Chemical Safety
First aid is an immediate treatment given to victim of an accident or
sudden illness before medical care is available. Never minimize the
seriousness of an injury or illness.
Certified first aid members are available in all shifts and their names
will be circulated through weekly ERT schedule.
First Aid Kits are available in 15 locations for the treatment of minor
cuts and scratches.
If the casualty used any items from the first aid box, he should be
filled up the respective column in the register available at the first
aid location.
The internal medicine (tablets) not available in the first aid boxes as
it can be consumed only as per the doctor advise
The availability of First Aid kits is not a substitute for obtaining
medical treatment. Any medical cases beyond the first aid shall be
reported to the clinic.
First aid member should be accompanied with the casualty if the
casualty transferred to the government hospital.
The availability of the emergency drivers in each shift will be
circulated through weekly ERT schedule and the concerned ERT
Team Leader/ Shift in charge shall be taken the necessary action to
arrange the vehicle for the casualty.
Many chemicals are used in various process of cable manufacturing
that have hazards, including chemical burns from corrosives, fire
hazards from flammables, and pressure hazards from compressed
gases. Chemicals must be used, stored, and disposed of properly to
prevent accidents or environmental releases. By following safe
practices when using chemicals, employees can protect themselves
against chemical hazards:
Always read the labels on products before using them.
All chemical products have a Safety Data Sheet (SDS/MSDS)
listing the product’s specific hazards; contact your supervisor to
review the SDS and review the hazards associated with the
chemical.
Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as
gloves, goggles, masks, etc., when using chemicals; the SDS will
tell you what equipment to wear.
Follow label warnings and instructions.
Do not mix incompatible chemicals.
Learn emergency procedures in case you or others are exposed
to chemical splash or fumes; these procedures can be found on
the SDS.
Keep containers closed when not in use.
Store chemicals in their original containers in a cool, dry place.
