DOORS
Definition :-A door is defined as a movable
barrier, secured in an opening ,known as door
way through a building wall or partition for the
purpose of providing an access to the inside of a
builing or rooms of a building.
As a rule, the height of a door should not
be less then 1.8m to 2m. The width of the door
would be such that tow person can pass through
walking shoulder to sholder.
width-0.4 to 0.6 m hight
height- (width+ 1.2 m)
Location of doors
- The number of doors should be minimum for a room for better movement
and for no obstruction in the room.
- From view point of utility of the accommodation and privacy of the
occupants , doors , should b preferably be located near the corner of a
room
- The location, number and size of the window are decided consider varios
factors
- From view point of good ventilation and free air circulation inside the room
the door should be locked opposite walls facting each other
Types of Door
On the basis of working opration
• Hinged doors
battened type
framed and paneled
Glazed/sash

wire-gauge
• Revolving door
• Sliding door
• Swinging door
• Collapsible door
• Rolling shutter
Hinged Door
Most door are hinged along one
side to allow the door to pivot away
from the doorway in one direction
but not in the other. The axis of
rotation is usually vartical.
Hinged door required
minimum amount of maintenance
and cleaning, they are not expensive,
and have an excellent insulation
ability.
This is the simplest type of door, specially
suitsble for narrow opening.The door is
formed of vertical bond known as bettens
which are usually tongued and
grooved,and are fixed together by
horizontal supports known as “Ledges”.

Framed and Paneled
- This type of door are widely used in
almost all type of building since they are
strong and give better appearance then
battened door.
- The styles are continuous from top to
bottom i.e they are in single piece.
Glazed and sash door are provided where additional
light is required to be admitted to the room through the
door or where the visibility of the interior of the room is
required from the adjacent room.
Such doors are commonly used in residential as well
as public buildings like Hospital,collage, office etc.

Flushed door are becoming increasingly
popular these days because of their pleasant
appearance simplicity of conception.
Less cost , better strength and greater
durability.
Louvered door permit free ventilation through them
and at the same time maintain the privacy of the
room.
These door harbour dust which is very difficult to
clean

Wire-Gauged door
These door are provided to check
the entry of flies, mosquitoes,
insects etc.wire mesh is provided in
the panels and thereforr they
permit free passage of air. Such
doors are commonly used for
refreshment rooms
hotels,cupboards and sweet shops
etc.
Revolving door
Such door are provided only in public
building, such as libraries museums,
banks etc. where are constent visitors
Such a door provided entrence to one
and exit to other person simultaneously,
and closes autometicly, not in use.
Sliding door
In such a door, the shutter slides on the sides
with the help of runner and guide rairs. The
door may be one side shutter, two side shutter
or even three shutters or even three shuters
depending upon the sige of the opening and
the space available on sides for sliding.
Swinging Door
A swing door has leaf attached ton the
door frame by means of special double
action spring can be moved inward or
outword as desired
Collapsible door
Such door are used in godowns , workshops, sheds, public
building etc. for providing increased sefty and protecting
to property. The door neither requires hinges for opening
and closing, nor anhy frame for hanging them .
It acts like a steel curtain which can be opened of closed
by horizontal push.
Rolling steel shulter
This door are commonly used for garages,
shop, front show windows etc. since they
are quite strong and offer proper safty to
the property. The door consists of a
frame, a drum and a shutter of thin steel
plates about 1 to 1.25 thick and inter
locked together. The frame has steel
guides on the sides in which the shutter
moves and them coils in the drum. The
dia of drum varies from 200 to 300 mm.
