This wider audience is mainly the result from a film’s higher budget which can acquire more known actors for their roles, better CGI, and more marketing. However, there was also several choices of British films, such as ‘Four Lions’ and ‘The Inbetweeners’, both that would appeal more to a British audience since it has a more ‘British’ sense of humour which other audiences may not find appealing.
What are the different methods of marketing?
Marketing is vital to raise interest and awareness of a film’s release to ensure it is successful. Marketing can be done by using technology, for example: adverts on the internet, promotions on social networks and mobiles. Trailers are also a key feature of marketing, which make appearances on TV adverts and on Cinema adverts, clips of these trailers can also be heard on radio. Posters that shows the films’ main appeal and gives an insight into the films subject; these feature on billboards, on the side of buses and bus stops, as well as online. Premieres, which now is a glamorous event, have the actors appear on a red carpet to give interviews to media and boosts the interest of the film when interviews with the cast are broadcast around the world. Following this, actors also contribute publicity wise by giving interviews to different broadcasters, sometimes appearing on television shows to promote the film; or giving interviews that will be printed in popular magazines.
What do you think is most effective and why?
I think the most important would be publicity generated by the cast members because the media and the public have a certain fascination with celebrities/actors and the role they play, as well as their own personal lives. This interest is important, as the behaviour and personality that comes across from these interviews will urge more people to see the film and in some cases, is vital in gaining a fan base.
