2. ABOUT TATA MOTORS, DHARWAD
Tata Motors Dharwad plant is for small and light
commercial vehicles. The plant is constructed in
line with the norms specified by INDIAN GREEN
BELT BUILDING COUNCIL(IGBC).The plant has
been equipped with state-of-the-
art equipment following lean
manufacturing principles.
The company produces Tata ACE Zip and chassis
for Light Commercial Vehicles.
3. ABOUT THE TOPIC
Objective of my project was “To reduce the cycle
time taken in sub assembly of FES” for LCV
assembly line.
For that I understood the details of assembly line
and other sub-assemblies going on in LCV
assembly.
Also about the time sequence method to maximize
the production in assembly line.
4. FRONT END STRUCTURE (FES)
It is the front most part of the light commercial
vehicle.
It holds the driver seat, pedal assemblies,
instrumental clusters, etc.
It carries all the basic parts needed in a cabin.
Assembly of FES takes 45 mins.
The task was to reduce the cycle time. In order to
increase the production of the LCV chassis.
5. MAYNARD OPERATIONS SEQUENCE TECHNIQUE
(MOST)
MOST is a high level pre-determined motion time
system.
It is a technique that concentrates on movement of
objects and helps in analyzing work and to
determine normal time taken to complete the task.
My first task was to study about MOST and apply in
FES subassembly line.
6. WHAT I DID TO REDUCE THE CYCLE TIME
Rearranged the position of certain components
from racks to reduce the walking distance of
mechanics.
Made efficient jigs and fixture to reduce cycle time.
