Hendurabi or Hendorabi (Persian: هندرابی‎‎) is an Iranian island in the Persian Gulf.

The following would be reflected through island’s design. There are some types of local architecture related to this specific weather.
We traced those elements in order to embed them into our design.
The courtyard fulfils a deep
rooted need for an open living
area. The courtyard organization
is appropriate to hot dry climates
because it maximizes shading
and allows for the creation of
a pleasant microclimate. The
availability of plants and a water
feature within the courtyard helps
in cooling and humidifying the
internal atmosphere.

penetrate a space.

MashrabiyaThick walls
Act as thermal mass for the
structure.During summer, these
walls absorb the cold night air,
allowing the walls to cool the
interior environment during the
nex day. During winter, these
walls absorbs the warmer day
air, allowing the walls to warm
the interior environment to the
next day.
Was designed for use in dense
urban situations where there’s a
need to draw air down into the
compact, courtyard houses.
Wind towers often rise to over 15
meters above ground where the
air is cleaner and less laden with
sand. The wind tower creates air
circulation and conveys a cooling
breeze, it helps cool the body by
increasing moisture evaporation
from the skin.

4. Secondary Harbour
The secondery harbour is designed primarily for the use of local
residents, therefor it located at the north side of the island, between
the two villages.
There are a few paths to enter the harbour. One path is facing the sea
side, for those who are coming from the pier. Second path continues
from the main road of the island. There is also an entry through the
beach boardwalk from both sides of the harbor, which connect the har-
bor to the villages around it. The harbour building allows air
vantilation all around it, espacially in the courtyard.
The way from the harbour to the boats is shaded during most of the
day, by the building itself. This situation carried out thanks to the
shadows that the north facade of the building drops on the sidewalk.
The courtyard has a slant roof that transfers the wind through the
Mashrabiya holes and let the fresh air enter inside the building. The
roof also shades the courtyard of the building .

5. Airport
The terminal is emerging from the cliff. two shaded bridges for
arrivels and diparture passages are conecting between the
terminal and the airport fields.
The construction on the water provide possibilities for future
extensions.
The location of the airport is on the south part of the island and
beyond the hillside reduce noise hazards.
Two dimensions are created in the airport landscape area.
one is the infrastructure connecting between land and water, the
other is the beach passage bellow, giving both the visitors and the
padestrians a visual interaction.
Mashrabyia openings from both west and east facades enable natu-
ral ventilation and reduction of direct sunlight.
The construction is partialy immersed in the ground for isolation, thus natural cooling system.
The building top extension provides shades to the lower open level heading towards the bridges.
The south facade inclination prevents direct sunlight enterying to interior spaces during the hotest hours. The existing topography of the airport location

6. Residential
This perspective is an example of part from a raw of houses located
on the hillside.The public spaces beside it are shaded with light
construction. Winds entering the houses through openings in the wind
chimney. There are Mashrabyia windows in east and west facades of
the houses, allowing air ventilation as well as well as reducing direct
sun light.
The village is designed according to the hillside topography. Each house has a wind tower,
shading the next house downwards, as well as providing air ventilation to the interior spaces.
The passages between each house an other public areas are shaded as well due to the natural
shading system created by the hight of the builted area.
The interior of the house keeps the cold temperature and less moisture by the thick walls.

The village masterplan creates public passages in different scales,
Between houses and also between domicile blocks.
There are open greenery areas that function as public spaces,
and others public spaces functions as facilities for the village.
The village hillside is facing north, which provide indirect sunlight
and sea view for all residents.
