• Net Paved area on site under parking, roads etc. is maximum of 20% of the site area (0/1)
• Total surface parking is not exceeding as permitted by the local building by-laws.
• All most whole of the total paved area is having pervious paving (Parking Blocks).(1/1)

3. Introduction:
• Urban Heat Island Effect: Dense urban city centers tend to have higher ambient
temperatures than surrounding sub urban rural areas. This phenomenon is known as urban
heat island effect.
• Impact of UHIE is felt more in summers months, especially at night.
• Principal area that lead to UHIE:

2. Roads
3. Facades
4. Roofs
5. Streets
6. Sidewalks

4. Causes of UHIE:
• Change in energy balance of a area cause due to human interventions.
• Urban settings and geometry
• Lack of vegetation
• Surface finishes in individual buildings
• Anthropogenic heat generation
• Replacement of vegetation and previous surface with impervious surfaces
• Use of dark color materials like asphalt and concrete

1.Minimization of paved surfaces: Use of softscape surfaces.
2.Cool roofs:
*Use of light color roofs or can be coated with high albedo paints.
*Use of ceramic tiles which has high reflectance.
*Use of roof finishes like broken china mosaic which prevents heat gains
3. Cool / light coloured facades: use of light coloured roofs with high albedo
4. Green roofs and walls: Use of roof gardens
5. High – albedo walkways and streets: Use of high albedo materials and light
coloured aggregates
6. Shaded surfaces: Use of pergola's, shades etc
7. Pervious paving: Use of grass and gravels in paving
8. Designed paved surface for minimum standards and peak loads
9. Planting trees: Trees plant in western and southern facades of building in India .
