2. •Gateway drugs are legal drugs
that non -drug user might try,
which can lead him/her to a more
dangerous drugs such as
Marijuana and Shabu.
3. According to the study dione by the
National Youth Commission (NYC), two out
of five Filipino teenagers age 13-15 years
old smoke cigarette. Furthermore, a study
conducted by an anti- tobacco group in the
year 2011, Ten Filipinos die every hour
because of tabacco-related diseases.
4. There are harmful chemicals in
cigarettes that can harm people. In
studies conducted, 43 of the
chemicals in a cigarettes are
known carcinogens.
6. •The central nervous system
controls all body organs like the
heart, lungs, brain and processes
like heart rate, blood pressure
rate, respiration rate and more.
7. There are three (3) smoke produced
by cigarette smoking
•1. Mainstream smoke – a smoke
that the smoker directly inhales.
8. •2. Side stream smoke or
second hand smoke- smoke that
comes out of the lighted end of a
cigarette or pipe that is more
dangerous than mainstream
smoke.
9. • 3. Third hand smoke/ Residual
Tabacco smoke- smoke left for a
longtime on sofa, beddings, pillow and
other objects. This smoke still contains
harmful chemicals and carcinogens.
10. Policies and Laws Regarding Cigarette
Smoking
R.A. No. 9211, otherwise know as the “
Tabacco Regulation Act of 2003” is the
law governing tobacco production,
distribution and use. Some of its important
provisions are:
11. •Sec. 5 – Smoking Ban in Public
places like schools, recreational
facilities for persons under
eighteen years old, elevators and
staireways, etc.
12. •Sec. 9- Minimum Age Sells, under
this act, it shall be unlawful for any
retailer of tabacco products to sell
or distribute products to any minor
(persons below 18 years of age).
13. • Sec. 10- Sale of tabacco products within
the School perimeters. The sale or
distribution of tabacco products is
prohibited within one hundred meters
from any point of the perimetr of a school,
public playground or other facility
frequented particulary by minors.
14. Chapter 2, Article 5, Sec. 24 of R.A. No. 8749, also
known as the “ Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999.
Smoking inside a public building or an enclosed
public place including public place, public
vehicles and other means of transport or any
enclosed area outside of one’s private
residence, private place of work or any duly
designated smoking area is hereby prohibited
under this Act. This provision shall implemented
by the Local Government Units.``
15. • Alcohol – is a colorless, bitter-tasting
substances that humans have been
consuming since the ancient time. It
comes from plants that underwent
fermentation, the process of extracting
alcohol from plant or fruit.
16. • Example of fermented alcohol is beer.
Beer is extracted from grains. On the
Other hand, wines are from grapes, and
other fruits

19. • Ethanol – also called the Beverage
Alcohol. When human consume this in
unregulated amount it may result to
intoxication and alteration of the Nervous
system. Example; Gin, Wine, Beer,
Rhum, Vodka, etc.
20. Alcohol if enters the blood stream, it goes in all
parts of the body. The main effect of alcohol
drinking reflects on a person’s central nervous
system (CNS) The CNS controls one’s mental
processes, memory, speech, learning and
decision making. It also affects a person’s
senses, feelings, movements and breathing.
21. The amount of alcohol that entered in the blood
stream at a certain period can be measured in
percentages through Blood- Alcohol
Concentration (BAC) or most often called Blood
Alcohol Level ( BAL). A BAC of 0.05 % means
there is five parts of alcohol per 10,000.00 part
of blood in the body. A 0.3-0.5 % BAC could
lead to coma, brain damages and death
