1. My name is Dr. Sherri Lynn McFarland and I am the co-founder of World Peace &
Reconciliation (WP&R) which is a non-profit organization that bolsters positive transformation
of war-torn communities in Sudan and in other regions of the world through peace education and
human development. “Education rooted in peace,” is the motto that not only encapsulates the
belief that guides this organization; but such a principle fuels my efforts as a peace activist.
Being more of an effective agent of change as a peace educator is the primary reason why I have
sought to engage in this campaign financing effort. Because of my commitment to the
advancement of human rights, democracy, peace and justice world-wide; I resigned from my job
as a professor at the Department of Defense so that I could devote more time and energy to
impacting people’s lives by engaging in grassroots initiatives for sustainable development in
war-torn countries such as Darfur, Sudan. Recently, I have been granted the opportunity to
participate in an intensive course regarding transitional justice and peace processes. Such a
course is necessary for my efforts to hone my skills as a peace educator because course
discussions will yield a deeper understanding of the challenges, options and implications of the
different approaches that are taken to establish peace and justice in conflict zones. As co-
founder of WP&R, I recently developed a peace educational curriculum for ages seven through
fifteen to be implemented in El Hamadya, an internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp located in
western Darfur. In August 2016, the members of WP&R will host a workshop for educators
currently living and teaching in the aforementioned region so that they will be given information
about the instructional content of the peace educational curriculum. This workshop will build
local capacity because the educators that have attended the workshop will be charged with the
responsibility of equipping their students as well as others in the affected community with the
proper tools and resources that are necessary for peaceful living. Additionally, the members of
WP&R are not only making strides towards establishing peace in conflict zones in Africa; but in
North America as well. As a peace activist who desires to be effective and efficient in my efforts
to rebuild war-torn communities; I invite you to help me take advantage of this wonderful
