THE CHILD’S RIGHTS
The principle of non-discrimination.
The principal of “ the best interest of the child”.
The principle of life survival and development.
The principle of inclusion and participation.
3. NON-DISCRIMINATION
The principle of non-discrimination seeks to guarantee that
every child, without exception, can enjoy their rights without
any distinction based on the “child’s parents or legal guardian,
race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion,
national, ethnic or social origin, poverty, disability, birth or
other status”.
4. BEST INTEREST OF THE CHILD
“The best interest of the child” principle
ensures that “in all actions concerning
children ,the best interest of the child
shall be a primary consideration”
5. LIFE, SURVIVAL
&DEVELOPMENT
The principle of survival and development
grants the child not only the right not to be
killed, but also to have their economic and social
rights guaranteed to the maximum extent
possible.
6. INCLUSION&PARTICIPATION
The principle of inclusion and participation
establishes not only that every child can express
their views, but also that every child has the
rights that those views and opinions are
respected.
7. Child participation is one of the four categories of rights of the
child enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights
of the Child (UNCRC), which asserts that children and young
people have the right to freely express their views. It further states
that it is an obligation of the state and the society to listen to, and
respect children’s views, and to facilitate their participation in all
matters affecting them.
