LENGTH OF THE SCHOOL YEAR
The academic year consists of a Fall semester, a Spring semester, and a
Summer program composed of varying term lengths.
Prior to Fall 1990: The academic year consisted of two trimesters and a
third trimester of two eight week sessions.
UNIT OF CREDIT
The unit of credit is the semester hour. The semester hour consists of
the equivalent of one fifty-minute lecture or discussion period, or two
laboratory periods per week, for each term.
COURSE LEVEL IDENTIFICATION
Each course is designated by a three-digit number that identifies the
course and indicates the level of difficulty.
LEVEL CODES
090’s - developmental courses, not applicable towards
graduation requirements – Effective Fall 2010, grades
earned in these courses will not count in hours earned
nor in the grade point average.
100’s - usually taken during freshman year
200’s - generally taken by sophomores
300’s - advanced undergraduate and, under some conditions,
graduate students
400’s & 500’s - graduate students only
GRADES AND GRADE POINT SYSTEM
Coursework beginning with Fall 1976 is based on the 4.0 grading
system. Prior to Fall 1976, coursework was based on the 5.0 grading
system.
