As a result, highly ambitious entrepreneurs who

According to a study by the Global Entrepreneurship
Monitor South Africa (2012), the dynamics of startup

What are/were the challenges you and your team come
across in your day-to-day operations?
Firstly, this is the most important driver why we’ve come
into existence. Secondly, the sense of satisfaction for having
contributed to achievement is derived only when you face
and overcome the challenges. Incidentally, we believe every
problem does not lend itself to a single departmental
solution. Making clients believe in this new model of
consulting is the biggest hurdle, and then we’ve to be
comparable with the Big-5s to be considered. We’ve
managed to do it well so far with the big names we’ve in
our clientele in these two years.
Moving from a comfortable, well-organized infrastructure
(from Resources to People) for backing-up and for the
things that were taken for granted, quite literally in a
corporate environment (mundane operational activities) to
running everything from enabling functions, to bookkeep-
ing, handling our business social commitments, alongside
growing the business, and delivering value.
Taking into consideration, the current pandemic, and its
impact on global economies, how are you driving your
organization to sustain operations and ensuring the
safety of your employees at the same time?
In a hindsight, and with due respect to all the frontline
workers, doctors, and medical practitioners (we bow to their
contribution), the pandemic was a blessing in disguise for
our “Workforce of the Future” model of operations. Right
from day 1 of starting our operations, we believed in work
from anywhere and executed the same. In essence, the
pandemic had the least impact on our operations, however,
like everyone else during the peak lockdown our business
conversations were merely conversations. The sign of
recovery, especially for these kinds of niche consulting,
started only towards late Q2 - early Q3. Our entire eco-
system also bore the brunt of the pandemic, however,
luckily we’ve all survived, and are looking forward to the
new normal and a better FY ’22.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
who aspire to venture into the consultancy sector?
First, it is about identifying the core area of expertise where
you would like to add value, and then identifying the
broader spectrum adjacent to this core. Develop the
capability with a capital “T” – Deep in the chosen area,
broader understanding of the adjacent areas. It’s a niche
offering to venture into as long as you have a passion for
making others successful, even at the time more than your
own. Most often than not, this sense of achievement will
drive you to sustain the business over any hardship you may
face.
Second, do not reinvent the wheel. Wherever possible try to
have synergic partnerships that will deliver for you. Third,
we see consulting start-ups mushrooming owing to the
layoffs in the middle/senior management in MNCs. If you
can’t find a sweet spot that will make you unique and your
offering inevitable, then there’s no point in venturing to be
yet another consulting firm.
Where do you envision your organization to be in the
long run and what are your future goals?
We believe in living our lives well while we make an
impact in the world of business. So, in terms of numbers,
we do not set hard goals nor wanting to be part of the global
corporate rat race. We see money, because of our commit-
ment to customer success.
We aim to be one of the trusted partners for global tech
startups and enterprises alike. We are focusing on DX for
Manufacturing, CPG, Healthcare, and Insurance for now.
We would want to venture into other verticals like Travel
and Hospitality. We want to be part of initiatives that bridge
the digital divide and taking innovation to the last mile.

· Specialised Background and Knowledge:

Gone are the days when a consultant sat in the Board
Room, interviewed a few people and then gave his

models which relied on hourly billing will get replaced by
deep relationships "fold up the sleeves" and solve problems

There may be cases where the consultant will have to be a

· Rise of "Entrepreneurial Consulting":
This is a interesting change coming in the consulting
industry. Even the consultants want to be "masters of their
own destiny". Hence more and more consultants are coming
out of Big consulting firms, forming a consortium and
getting into their own offerings.
· Consulting is no longer a "I have a problem; you give
me a solution" approach:
Traditionally, consultants were engaged to "solve" a
problem. Given the speed of change that is happening
around the world the consultant's "solution" becomes
outdated as soon as its given. These are the days the
solutions have to be continuously tweaked, modified or
even changed to suit the changing scenario. Thus, the need
for a very strong integral involvement with the client's
business and a need for solution and results is the need of
the hour rather than the hour as the unit of billing.
· Changes in the buying behaviour of purchasers:
Brand Creation is no longer a long-drawn process. Not in
the modern world of business. On-line channels have
changed that completely.
Today, even a small organization, with creative and
dynamic on-line strategy can compete with a much larger
company and give it a run for the money.
Today, customers are asking for consulting companies to
drive results and are accordingly compensated. Another
factor that is playing a key role is that customers are
expecting services to be delivered much faster than before.
· Need for new skills:
This change in the world of business is forcing companies
to reskill its employees, this is not easy. It has a huge
financial impact. Also, hiring new people does not solve the
problem because their skills also become useless after a few
years.

technologies is outpacing organization's ability to manage
the changes appropriately while running and growing the

· The uniqueness is gone:
Till recently, the large consulting companies had knowledge
and experience of best practices which made them unique
in the market place. Now, much of this information is
readily available to those who are willing to research.
Consultants, who had previously worked for Big 4 are not
spread across the market. Thus, making their experience
and skill available to other companies.
· New Competition:
Boutique and specialists' firms are not the only form of
competition now. The increase in independent consultants
operating is also providing major competition to the big
players. Also, their access to the market via on-line portals
(which advertise requirements for consulting) have
increased their ability to compete with the top tier firms.
In conclusion:
While I could go on about the changes and the impact on
the consulting industry for many more pages but here is the
fundamental truth.
Every other industry has undergone changes in its structure,
For many decades consulting industry was felt to be
immune from the upheaval going in the rest of the business.
No more now.
Consulting industry's time to change has now come.
Changes via merger/Acquisitions, consolidation, failures
due to inability to keep up with the changing times etc. are
also going to impact the consulting industry in a big way.
How long before it happens? Well, anybody's guess is as
good as mine.
My guess….in another 5-10 years, the consulting landscape
would have changed so much that what we see today will
be material for the Business History books…

34. What are/were the challenges you and your team come
across in your day-to-day operations?
With the Covid situation being underway, we had invested
and ensured a good IT Infrastructure for remote accessibility
and seamless communication; however, adjusting to the
virtual mode of working was a big challenge initially. As the
nature of consulting, which requires a lot of personal
interaction, attention, deliberation, and discussion; the
otherwise shorter physical meetings were getting replaced
with longer virtual calls, thereby, leading to higher engage-
ment and longer working hours. Though the higher client
engagement was heartening, the delayed cash flows and new
mandates with fixed costs mounting up kept testing.
However, as the lockdown norms were eased, and business
activities slowly started, things are now shaping up albeit
slowly. Our office operations have resumed (of course
following all safety protocols) and the client physical
meetings have begun too.
Taking into consideration, the current pandemic, and its
impact on global economies, how are you driving your
organization to sustain operations and ensuring the
safety of your employees at the same time?
As stated in the previous section, during the ongoing
pandemic we have built a robust IT infrastructure to remain
accessible and provide timely support to our clients. Having
been acquainted with the virtual mode of operation, we have
also worked on IT-enabled solutions for our clients by
blending the IT into consulting solutions and have success-
fully rolled it for our clients.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs

Our advice to the budding entrepreneurs is to – first
