Marine Biology Related Research
08/2015 – Present
Conducted Masters of Marine Science thesis project on stock assessments and bottom habitat
preferences of deep reef fish species at the Georgetown Hole Reef located on a productive live
hard-bottom area of the upper continental slope of the Charleston Bump. Data were collected
and analyzed from submersible and ROV footage conducted during 1985, 2002, & 2010 to
compare fish density and bottom habitat selectivity throughout this thirty year period.
06/2016 – 07/2016
Participated in a 3-week research cruise aboard the R/V Pisces to assess deep reef fish
populations within continental shelf MPAs of the South Atlantic Bight from Port St. Lucie,
Florida to Wrightsville, North Carolina utilizing live ROV video footage. Identified fish,
invertebrates, coral, sponges, and classified bottom habitat type.
06/2015 – 08/2015
Determined the abundance of deep reef fish species and habitat preferences from ROV video
footage conducted by the Pisces Cruise in 2010 at the Charleston Lumps (aka Georgetown Hole).
Analyzed trends in fish density of Snowy Grouper, Blueline Tilefish, Big Roughy, Blackbelly
Rosefish, Scorpionfish, Hake, and other deep reef bottom fish to assess changes in fish
abundance and bottom habitat preference.
2. Yeckley 2
08/2014 – 06/2015
Wrote research proposal for the synergistic effects of CO2 induced acidification and temperature
variation on the survival, growth rate, and calcification of the knobbed whelk Busycon carica.
01/2015 – 05/2015
Assessed the relative local abundances and migration patterns of the inshore population of
knobbed whelk Busycon carica within Wassaw Sound, GA.
08/2014 – 12/2014
Evaluated the effect of salinity, temperature, and dissolved oxygen variation on fish assemblages
within the Savannah River Estuary.
