About the Department
The Department of Biosciences was established in
1969 by Prof. S.C. Pandeya. On the recommendation
of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the
Department started with its base in Environmental
Sciences and in few years it took leadership in the
field of ecology. Gradually, other areas of research
such as Plant Physiology, Animal Physiology &
Toxicology, Neurobiology, Ornithology, Wildlife
Biology and Fisheries were integrated into the
thrust areas. Later, it specialized into four different
streams; Botany, Zoology, Microbiology and
Biotechnology. The research thrust areas of the
department include Biodiversity, Taxonomy,
Ecology, Evolutionary analysis, Physiology,
Molecular biology, Desertification and Bioresources
Utilization.
The Department has just completed first Phase of
the UGC-Center of Advanced Study. Previously, it
has been supported under UGC: SAP- DSA-Phase-I,
II and III, DST-FIST, DBT: Multi-Institutional
Project, GSBTM, Govt. of Gujarat, Ministry of Earth
Sciences (New Delhi), NMEICT-Ministry of HRD
(New Delhi), DRDO, SERB & DBT. Majority of the
M.Phil. and PhD students of the department receive
fellowships from UGC /CSIR /DST /DBT /GSBTM
/MoES/ Govt. of Gujarat under various Programmes.
Aims of the Conference
 To generate awareness among the research
scholars regarding applications of biological
resources for human benefits.
 To understand basic and applied fields of
Biology.
 To provide platform for the scientists, young
researchers and students to interact and develop
fruitful collaborations.
 To provide opportunities for sharing ideas and
knowledge among the participants of the
conference.
