4. BIOTECHNOLOGY IN INDIA
 1978: First biotech company BIOCON was established at Bangalore
dealing with industrial enzymes. Later on it progressed and expanded its
scope into biotherapeutics.
 1981: Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) was established
at Hyderabad dealing with rDNA technology. It is one of the most
prestigious research institutions today.
 1986: Department of Biotechnology (DBT) is an Indian government
department, under the Ministry of science and Technology responsible
for administrating development and commercialisation in the field of
modern biology and biotechnology in India.

 CSIR UGC NET is conducted twice a year in typically the months of June and December.
 Next CSIR UGC NET 2020 Will be held on June 21.
 CSIR UGC NET December 2019 – JRF Expected cut-off ( Life science )
2.GATE ( Graduated aptitude test engineering )
 Notification announced in September.
 Exam will be conducted in February.

1. BiSEP – Biotechnology skill enhancement programme
 BiSEP internship Organized by Department of IT and BT, Government of Karnataka.
 Duration of time – 1 year programme ( 6 Months academic training + 6 Months industry internship).
 Fellowship – 10,000 per Month.
 Notification date – July.
2. DBT BITP – Biotechnology industrial training programme
 Organized by department of biotechnology ( DBT ), ministry of science and technology, biotech consortium India
limited ( BCIL ), Government of India, New Delhi .
 Duration of time – 6 Months.
 Fellowship – 10,000 per Month
 Notification date – July.
