1. Procedure Guidelines on Restraining
Restraining
The activity /procedure of controlling and calming clients behavior through chemical and
mechanical means. It prevents the patients’ free movement to a position of choice and for
patients’ normal access to their body .It should not to be used as the punishment or for the
convenience of the staff.
Purpose
To manage agitation and aggression of the violent patient.
To facilitate examination, treatment and care.
To maintain safety of the patient ,staff and others
To prevent patient wandering.

Impression
Restraining procedure is carried out in the ward as per the need of the patient. While
performing the restraining procedure the procedure guideline is not followed completely.
There is found the lagging in the knowledge of the staff regarding the restraining
procedure. So, staffs need to be updated with the guidelines of the procedure conducted
in the ward.
