IT IS AN AGE WHICH INITIATED MODERN TIMES WITH PLANTS AND ANIMALS WITH WHICH WE ARE FAMILIAR BUT MORE IMPORTANT IS THE FACT THAT IT MARKED BEGINNING OF EVOLUTION OF HOMININS -GIVING US A GLIMPSE OF OUR FIRST GREAT GRAND ANCESTORS-

Miocene
Markingbeginning of new times
presentsa pictureof easily
recognizableplants and animals
making merryin good old days
Angiospermsamongstthe plants
mammals& birdsamonganimals
were every where and continued
to dominatethescene throughout
As grasslands continuedto expand
the mammals continuedto grow
and some of them became giants like
the well known hornlessrhinos
Birds also continued to multiply
on Land in the sea and air
everywhereindulging in theirnoisy
playful stylemaking merry
6. Trials & Tribulations 6
Horsesand deers running for life
with big cats speedilychasingtheirprey
could be seen in the vast grasslands
and woodlandsthroughout the world
Many new varietiesof animalsappeared
including dogs bears hyenas and
sabretoothedcats ; Australia and south
Americamaintainedtheirdistinctfauna
Main developmentwhich attracts
attention is ,however, evolutionof
apes leadingto appearanceof
hominoidsin the jungles of Africa
As the evolutionproceeded ahead
hominidsappearedone by one
Orangutans gorilla bonbons
chimpanzeesand ultimately hominins
7. Trials & Tribulations 7
With Sahelanthropus &Orinin
leading the trail which tookus
in subsequentepoches to famous

In the seas and oceans fishes
and planktoncontinued to flourish
Kelp forestsappearedfor the first time
whales molluskspinnipedsspread .
The epoch saw continuousrisingof
Himalayas and its effects on climate
and consequentlyon lifein Asia
in particular India and south east Asia.
Thank God this was an age ,which
luckily passedthroughwithout any
major mishapand the ‘Life’was not
requiredto face any troublesome trial.
