Adele – make you feel my love
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0put0_a--Ng
Representations – Dark night in the city, and she’s all alone in her bedroom. Shows she’s
heartbroken, upset and on her own. Dark hotel room, not in her own house as if she has to stay
there. She may have broken up with her boyfriend. The dark grey colours of the room shows she is
dull, not happy and also dark colours represent her being scared and on her own as she is on her
own. Looking at the time and her phone shows she is waiting for a phone call or message. She wants
somebody to get in touch with her but they’re not. Her hairs a mess, and there is mascara round her
eyes which shows she has been crying, she’s upset and vulnerable. Sends a message, showing
desperation. She keeps checking her phone to see if he has replied and he hasn’t.
Stereotypes – Girls are the weaker sex, as when she sends the message it shows that she is running
back to him.
Body Language- she is sat down on the bed for most of the video with her arms in front of her
clenching the phone, this shows vulnerability.
The Narrative of the video, she’s telling a story of heartbreak, what she could offer him but what he
doesn’t want.
Iconography – Phone, Empty Hotel room showing she’s alone. Dark city scenes and dark dull colours
showing she may be scared/depressed.
Setting mise en scene – in an empty hotel room in a big city ( most likely to be London)
Technical and audio codes – close up shots, mid shots, over the shoulder shots, high angle shots.
Non diagetic/diagetic sound – can hear her pushing the buttons on her phone as she is texting. Her
singing is adding in.
Editing techniques – shots keep changing from shots of her singing to shots of the city.

Ellie Goulding – Your Song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9AFMVMl9qE
Representations –Always smiling in the video shows that this is a happy song. Bright coloured leaves,
cold weather but it is sunny. Sun shows happiness. Forest, buildings as if she is travelling ‘I don’t
have much money’ as if she is a traveller. Really bright sun in some scenes shows happiness. Man
playing piano and kitten. Kittens are cute and everyone likes small animals, again this makes people
happy. Singing in the studio, shows reflexivity, everything has been planned Also you see somebody
filming her, this is also reflexivity. Showing names and love hearts carved into a tree, shows that this
is a love song but it is a happy love song as she is always smiling she’s not upset about it. Shows a
waterfall, waterfalls are beautiful they remind people of magic or a dream as they are not usually
seen, this makes the video seem more magical, and this is also done by the glittering sun coming
through the leaves. Shows roof tops.
Stereotypes – There are no males in the video, and she is happy. Shows women can have power.
May also show that she isn’t talking about being in love with somebody, she may be talking about
love for a sibling as there is a girl shown hugging her or a pet as you see the kitten a lot through the
video.
Body Language – She is always smiling with her arms open and spinning around. Also looks like she
laughs a lot. This shows she’s really happy. The arms wide pen also shows she has nothing to hide
and she hasn’t got a care in the world.
Narrative – Shows that she is on a journey. Maybe she has finally reached happiness.
Iconography – Train, bright sunlight, kitten, smiling. This all shows that the video and song are
happy, as most love songs are about heartbreak; this one is about finally reaching the point of love
and happiness. Not uncommon for Ellie Golding’s songs as many of her songs are happy upbeat
songs.
Setting – It is set in many different places. On a train, in a forest, near buildings and houses, in a
park. These may all be places of happiness for Ellie as they have no convenient use for the video.
Technical and audio codes – Many close up shots, high angle shots, long shots.
Editing Techniques - Many cuts to different shots, from the park to rooftops.

Girls Aloud – The Promise
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPrZ4yAdj8I
Representations- The video is set in the 1960s – 1970s, in a drive in cinema. Everybody in the video
has 1970s hairstyles, clothes and make up. This shows the video is a postmodern media text. Also
the cars are all really bright colours. All the band members are dressed really glamorous with really
glamorous hair and makeup. When the video starts on the cinema screen it starts off with two men
blowing trumpets, again shows music fromthe past as usually thee would be a guitarist drummers
and backing singers in a video from this day and age. Also it is being shown in black and white. All
the band members have glittery long dresses on. This shows the stereotype of women having to
constantly look good. The song is talking about men; the band members are dancing and winking at
the camera, which shows they are very flirtatious. Staring at all the boys. The men flirting with the
women throwing popcorn at them.
Stereotypes – The stereotype of women having to always look good for men. The weaker sex,
women have to try for men but men don’t have to try for women. Also stereotypes all women are
flirty as throughout the video the women are pulling very flirty faces, winking and dancing in a sexy
way. Shows the girls shaking there bums.
Body Language- The band members have very flirtatious language, the song is a love song, about
men making the women love them this is shown by the constant sexual chemistry between the men
and woman, how the woman are using dancing and flirting to communicate with the other men.
Narrative – A story of men making the women love them, again this is shown by the constant flirting
with the men in the video.
Iconography – Cars, The era, Cheryl clasping the magazine.
Setting – In a 1970s drive in cinema.
Technical and audio codes – Lots of log shots as you have to watch the cinema screen as if you are
there. Many close up shots of the band members faces, and body parts e.g. curves, bums etc.
Non Diagetic/ Diagetic sound – can here Kimberley beep her horn at sarah when she gets onto the
stage infront of the screen.
Editing Techniques -
