2. The Respiratory System A fundamental system because it supplies blood with oxygen that goes all over the body Inhale oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide waste When you inhale oxygen it goes through your mouth, down the larynx and the trachea Trachea splits into 2 bronchial tubes, enters lungs, fills lungs with air, and supplies blood with oxygen
3. Larynx Known as voice box Located in neck Produces sound Protects trachea Prevents choking
4. Trachea Made of cartilage and ligaments Starts at lower larynx, branches into lungs Protects airways Prevents choking
5. Bronchus Made of cartilage, smooth muscle, mucous secreting glands Lined with cilia Conveys air into lungs
6. Lungs Lungs brings oxygen into body Gets rid of waste gasses such as carbon dioxide 10-12 inches long Located in chest, ribcage
7. Alveolus Located in lungs Tiny air sacs in lungs that contain oxygen Oxygen diffuses into capillaries and supplies red blood cells with oxygen
8. Bronchioles Thin air passages in the lungs Branch off into bronchi and that extends into smaller alveolar ducts.
9. Diaphragm Helmet shaped muscle below lungs Causes air to get in and out of the lungs Makes lungs swell and fill with air then collapse to get rid of waste gas
10. Conclusion We discussed 7 parts of respiratory system (Larynx, Trachea, Bronchus, Lungs, Alveolus, Bronchioles, and Diaphragm) Talked about functions, how they work together I learned a lot, and I hope you did too Thanks for watching!
