2. RURAL DEVELOPMENT
According to the World Bank (1975), rural
development is defined as “a strategy aiming at
the improvement of economic. and social living
conditions, focusing on a specific group of poor
people in a rural area. It assists the poorest group
among the people living in rural areas to benefit
from development” Many people live in a city, or
urban area. Their homes and businesses are
located very close to one another.
A rural area is an open swath of land that has few
homes or other buildings, and not very many
people. A rural areas population density is very low.
3. IMPORTANCE OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT
Rural development is a dynamic process, which is
mainly concerned with the rural areas these include
agricultural growth, putting up economic and social
infrastructure, fair wages as also housing and
house sites for the landless, village planning, public
health, education and functional literacy,
communication etc,
4. Rural development is a strategy designed to
improve the economic and social life of rural poor. It
is a process, which aims at improving the well being
and self realization of people living outside the
urbanized areas through collective process.
Rural development is all about bringing change
among rural community from the traditional way of
living progressive way of living. It is also expressed
as a movement for progress.
5. RURAL DEVELOPMENT NEEDED BECAUSE
To develop rural area as whole in terms of culture,
society, economy, technology and health.
To develop living slandered of rural mass.
To develop rural youths, children and women.
To develop and empower human resource of rural
area in terms of their psychology, skill, knowledge,
attitude and other abilities.
To solve the problems faced by the rural mass for
their development.

6. WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF RURAL
DEVELOPMENT?
Rural development aims to improve livelihoods
by implementing comprehensive development
for rural areas where a majority of people in
poverty live. Rural development can also
contribute to reduce poverty in urban areas by
reducing excesissive population influxes from
rural areas.
