6. • The kindergarten class I observed are given the I pads
during their center time. They get to play many different
learning games on them. The kids can play number games,
money games, etc. I think that the I pad was a great idea to
put in schools because it makes the student want to learn
more than it would if they just had a textbook. Learning is
now fun for them!
• The EMD class I observed used I pads as a form of reward.
When the students finished their regular class work they
were given I pads to play educational games. Each student
was able to play a game that catered to their weaknesses;
both educationally and physically. The students loved using
the I pads and it seemed to benefit them greatly.
7. • The SMART Board is an interactive screen that can use
touch to operate. At Fulmer Middle School the teachers used
their SMART Boards as basic projectors and did not really
use it as an interactive learning tool. On the other hand, at
Davis Early Childhood Center for Technology the teachers
took full advantage of their SMART Boards. The students
used the boards to work on spelling through the use of
games and after they watched movies they used the board to
exercise. The students went into another classroom to
watch baby chicks on the SMART Board using the document
presenter. The ways in which a SMART Board can be used in
the classroom are endless!
8. • The SMART Table is a touch screen table that allows
students to play different games, to learn different lessons,
and to help each other out on various learning activities. At
Earl Davis Early Childhood Center for Technology, only three
kids are allowed at the table. This rule gives the kids
opportunities for all to have a turn at the table and to learn
at their own pace, while the others around the table help.
The teacher assigns the activity, and without instructing the
students what to do, they begin the activity. It is indeed a
tool that allows students to work together and to learn
without much additional instruction by the teacher.
9. • The document presenter is a really cool camera that can be
projected on the overhead or smart board. The kids were
learning about worms and the teacher put a worm in a cup
with grass and rocks and put the document presenter over
the cup so the kids got to watch the worm to see what it
does everyday. I think that that’s a great way for kids to
learn because it really gets them involved. You can watch
how excited each of them get because they get to see it in
real life.
10. • One really cool thing that I learned at Fulmer Middle School
was something called “Class Dojo.” Class Dojo can be done
by the instructor on a cell phone and you can tell what your
students are doing wrong and what they’re doing right. If a
student is doing badly, you can send an email to their
parents right off of the app. This allows the parent to know
their kids progress in the classroom.
11. • While observing at Fulmer Middle School I was able to see
the students use the Ed Modo program. The honor students
went to the computer lab to work on a project about fossils,
the teacher made this easier by posting the assignment on
Ed Modo. After logging into their accounts each student was
able to see the assignment as well as videos and
PowerPoints that the teacher posted. This prevented the
students from asking a lot of questions and enabled them to
finish their work faster and more efficiently. Ed Modo allows
students to keep up with their assignments and chat with
teachers and other students. Ed Modo is a great tool for both
the teachers and the students!
