3. Background
• Pakistan is one of the vulnerable country to climate change
• Persistent monsoonal rainfall in 2010 caused tragic flood in Pakistan.
• In this disaster more than 1700 persons lost their lives, over 20% of the land
area was affected and caused a loss of billions of dollars through damage to
livelihood including housing, agriculture and livestock, health, infrastructure and
family assets but the most immediate impact of erratic flood on rural livelihoods
was on crop production.
• The impact of the 2022 floods on Pakistan’s rural communities and agriculture
has been devastating, resulting in the loss of crops, livestock, and essential
infrastructure. The country is now facing an unprecedented food security crisis.
4. Objectives
• To examine the socio-economic attributes of the respondents
• To asses the impacts of flood on the natural resources and production
of crops
• To investigate the impact of foods on the livelihood assets of
respondents
• To identify the role of institutions in assisting and compensating the
farm families in the study area
• To formulate the suggestions for the future course of action
•
5. Methodology
• Study area: Muzaffargarh
• One of the most flood affected, food insure and poor district in the
Punjab.
• Muzaffargarh has three tehsils (Muzaffargarh, Ali Pur and Jatoi).
• Tehsil Muzaffargarh will be selected purposively because this tehsil
faced recent flood in 2022.
• The record of flood affected villages will be taken from the office of
Assistant Director of Agriculture (Ext.)
• Total 120 flood affected farmers will be contacted purposively to
collect data
6. • Data will be collected face to face on a structured, validated and
reliable interview schedule
• Data will be analyzed using SPSS
