Poverty is a complex social phenomenon with no single cause. It arises due to a combination of economic, political and social factors that mutually reinforce each other. Lack of access to resources, assets and opportunities along with social discrimination and political voicelessness trap people in intergenerational poverty from which it is difficult to escape without concerted and sustained remedial efforts.
