Background:-
Cricket in Pakistan has a history predating the creation of the country in
1947. The first ever international cricket match in Karachi was held on
22 November 1935 between Sindh and Australian cricket teams. The
match wasseen by 5,000 Karachiites
After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, and the establishment of the
separate nation state of Pakistan, cricket in the country developed
steadily and Pakistan was given the Test Match status at a meeting of the
Imperial Cricket Conference at Lord's Cricket Ground on 28 July 1952
following recommendation by India, which, being the successor state of
the British Raj, did not have to go through such a process.
Pakistan's first Test match was played in Delhi in October 1952 as part of
a five Test series which India won 2–1. Pakistan made their first tour of
England in 1954 and drew the series 1–1 after a memorable victory at
The Oval in which fast bowler Fazal Mahmood took 12 wickets.
Pakistan's first home Test match was in Dacca in January 1955 against
India, after which four more Test matches were played in Bahawalpur,
Lahore, Peshawar and Karachi (all five matches in the series were drawn,
the first such occurrenceintest history).1
Introduction:-
Cricket is no less than a religion for the people of Pakistan. It is the sport
which creates magical unity in its people and ignites a sense of
patriotism which no other sport or event ever can. Although hockey is
the national sport of Pakistan, Cricket continues to be the most loved
and popular sports. The members of the Pakistan cricket team are seen
as heroes by their fans and people love them more than they love any
politicianor leader.2
Cricket is the most popular sport in Pakistan. Almost all districts and
neighborhoods in Pakistan have a cricket team and people start playing
from a young age. International Test and one-day matches are played
between the Pakistan national cricket team and foreign opponents
regularly. Women's cricket is also very popular, with Kiran Baluch holds
the current record of the highest score in a women's test match with her

the Pakistan Cricket Team has produced stars, there has always been
some sort of controversies attached to the team since Pakistan's birth in
Internationalcricket. 3
Governing body (Pakistan Cricket Board)
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is responsible for all first class and
Test cricket played in Pakistan and by the Pakistan cricket team. It was
admitted to the International Cricket Council in July 1953. The
corporation has been run by former cricketers, professional
administrators and trustees, who are often respected businessmen. The
Board governs a network of teams sponsored by corporations and banks,
city associations and clubs including advertising, broadcasting rights and
internet partners4

International Test matches and One Day International matches are
played between the Pakistan national team and foreign opponents
regularly. Though Pakistan doesn't host many international matches as
teams refuse to play in Pakistan due to security concerns. The team has
won many international cricket tournaments, including the 1992 Cricket
World Cup and the 2009 ICC World Twenty20. They finished runners up
in the 1999 World Cup and the 2007 World Twenty20. They are also the
current championsofICC ChampionsTrophy.
They also take part in officially sanctioned Asian Cricket Council
competitions, including the Asia Cup, Asian Test Championship, ACC
Trophy and the AsianCricket Junior Tournament.5
Most Unpredictable Team in the world:-
The team is considered strong but unpredictable. Traditionally Pakistani
cricket has had players of great talent but limited discipline, making
them a team which could play inspirational cricket one day and then
perform less thanordinarilyanother day6
Test Cricket:-
The Pakistan national cricket team represents Pakistan in international
cricket and is a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC)
with Test and One Day International (ODI) status. Pakistan first
competed in international cricket in 1952, when they played against
India in a four-day Test match; India won the match by an innings and
70 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground, Delhi. In the same series,
Pakistan recorded their first Test win, the second match by an innings
and 43 runs at the University Ground, Lucknow. As of 2017, Pakistan
have played 410 Test matches; they have won 132 matches, lost 120
matches, and 158 matches were drawn. They have also won the 1998–99
Asian Test Championship, defeating Sri Lanka in the final by an innings

Under Misbah Ul Haq:-
After Amir, Asif and Butt were dismissed, Pakistan made Misbah ul Haq
the new captain of Pakistan. In subsequent series against South Africa in
the UAE he led Pakistan in tests. After resignation of Shahid Afridi as
test captain and suspension of Salman Butt due to spot-fixing scandal,
Misbah was preferred over Younus Khan, Mohammad Yousuf and
KamranAkmalas captain.
One of the most biggest moment for Pakistan under Misbah's captaincy
was when they whitewashed England, the then no.1 side, who toured
UAE in early 2012. Another greatest performance from Pakistan is when
they whitewashed the touring Australians.Pakistan won the matches by
221 runs and 356 runs. The win in the second Test was their highest
winning margin against any opposition in their history. Also in the same
match, Misbah equaled the then fastest Test match century off 56
deliveries.
Rise to No.1 and downfall:-
In 2016, Pakistan became No.1 Test team after their tour of
England, where they drew series 2-2 . It was the first time since
ranking system where introduce, were crowned No.1 and first
time since 1988. It was another greatest achievement in
Pakistan's Test history. They were also given Test mace in
Lahore. However, their No.1 rank were short lived as their
downfall began.
ODI Cricket:-
Pakistan played their first ODI match against New Zealand in February
1973 at the Lancaster Park, Christchurch, but registered their first win
against England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, in August 1974. As of
2017, Pakistan have played 879 ODI matches, winning 464 matches and
losing 389; they also tied 8 matches, whilst 18 had no result. They also
won the 1992 Cricket World Cup, the 2000 and 2012 Asia Cups, and the
2017 ICC ChampionsTrophy.
Twenty 20 Cricket:-
Pakistan played their first Twenty20 International (T20) match at the
County Cricket Ground, Bristol, on 28 August 2006, against England,
winning the match by five wickets. In 2009, they won the 2009 ICC
World Twenty20, defeating Sri Lanka by eight wickets. As of 2017,

Tape Ball Cricket:-
A tape ball is a tennis ball wrapped in electrical tape and is used in
playing street cricket. This modification of the tennis ball gives it greater
weight, speed and distance while still being easier to play with than the
conventional cricket ball. The variation was pioneered in Karachi,
Pakistan and is credited with Pakistan's famous production of fast
bowlers as children are brought up playing the game using a tape ball in
which various skills are developed. The increasing popularity of the tape
ball in informal, local cricket has transformed the way games are played
in cricket-loving nations such as India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh but
most famously Pakistan. Such has been the impact of a tape ball that in

recent years, some companies have introduced tennis balls designed to
act like cricket balls.9
Pakistan national blind cricket team:-
The Pakistan blind cricket team is the national blind cricket team of
Pakistan. Running and organised by the Pakistan Blind Cricket Council
(PBCC) which is affiliated with the World Blind Cricket Council (WBCC).
The team participates in One Day International and Twenty20
International cricket matches10
Pakistan women's cricket team:-
The Pakistan women's cricket team has a much lower profile than the
men's team. For all national women's cricket teams, the female players
are paid much less their male counterparts and the women's teams do
not receive as much popular support or recognition as the men's team.
The team played it first match during 1997, when it was on tour of New
Zealand and Australia and were invited to the World Cup later that year
and in the Women'sAsia Cup during 2005 theteam camethird place.
India–Pakistan cricket rivalry:-
The India–Pakistan cricket rivalry is one of the most intense sports
rivalries in the world. The arch-rival relations between the two nations,
resulting from the extensive communal violence and conflict that marked
the Partition of British India into India and Pakistan in 1947 and the
subsequent Kashmir conflict, laid the foundations for the emergence of
an intense sporting rivalry between the two nations who had erstwhile
shared a commoncricketing heritage.
The first Test series between the two teams took place in 1951–52, when
Pakistan toured India. India toured Pakistan for the first time in 1954-
55. Between 1962 and 1977, no cricket was played between the two
countries owing to two major wars in 1965 and 1971. The 1999 Kargil
War and the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks also interrupt cricketing ties
betweenthe two nations.
The growth of large expatriate populations from India and Pakistan
across the world led to neutral states like the United Arab Emirates and
Canada hosting several bilateral and multilateral ODI series involving

Pakistan Cricket From 1947 to 2017
Early years: 1947 to 1950:-
The independent state of Pakistan was established in 1947 following the
Partition of India. First-class cricket was already established in the
country as many clubs and local associations had previously been part of
the Indiancricket scene.
Matches were played on an ad hoc basis in the 1947–48 and 1948–49
seasons before Pakistan's Board of Cricket Control (BCCP) was
established on 1 May 1949. Games continued to be few and far between
for several seasons untila nationalchampionship beganin1953.
1951 to 1960
Pakistan's debut in Test cricket:-
In October to December 1952, Pakistan's Test debut was a five-match
series in India, the matches played at New Delhi, Lucknow, Bombay,
Madras and Calcutta. After India had won the First Test by an innings,
Pakistan won the Second Test by an innings thanks to Fazal Mahmood
who took 5–52 and 7–42. India won the Third Test and the other two
were drawn.
1961 to 1970
National championships:-
The Qaid-i-Azam Trophy was launched in the 1953–54 season as
Pakistan's national championship. The first winner was Bahawalpur. The
outstanding player in the inaugural season was the great opening
batsman Hanif Mohammed who scored 513 runs at an average of 128.25
with a highest score of 174.
1971 to 1985:-
In 1970, the Ayub Trophy was rebranded as the BCCP Trophy and
converted from a knockout tournament to a mini-league format whereby
teams qualified for a semi-final stage by winning one of four qualifying
groups. The competition's name changed again in 1973 to BCCP Patron's
Trophy.

The Pentangular Trophy commenced in the 1973–74 season and the
Wills Cup, Pakistan'spremier limited overscompetition, in1980–81.
1986 to 2000:-
Pakistan won the 1992 Cricket World Cup, beating England by 22 runs in
the final at the MelbourneCricket Ground on 25 March 1992.
Notable Pakistan players in this period include Javed Miandad, Imran
Khan, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mushtaq Ahmed, Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram
and Saqlain Mushtaq.
2001 to 2007:-
In 2002, Pakistan participated in their second Asian Test Championship.
It was originally planned to include all four Asian ICC full-members
(Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka). However, before the
tournament started, India'sparticipationwasput in doubt.
The 2007 Cricket World Cup was one of the biggest upsets in World Cup
history when Pakistan was knocked out of the competition in a shock
defeat to Ireland, who were playing in their first competition.
Notable Pakistan players in the 21st century include Inzamam-ul-Haq,
Younis Khan, Mohammed Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq (cricketer), Saeed
Ajmal, Shahid Afridi, ShoaibAkhtar, Umar Guland Misbah ul Haq.1 2
The Story of Cricket’s Revival in Pakistan:-
2008 – Terror Attacks in Lahore:-
Lahore suffered at the hands of terrorists on multiple occasions which
led to the cancellation of Australia tour. The Indian team also stopped
visiting Pakistan after the Mumbai attacks in November 2008. The
PakistanCricket Board had toface a loss of Rs. 336 million in 2008-09.
2009 – Attacks on Sri Lankan Cricket Team:-
On a day perfect for test match cricket, everything happened, but cricket
– the gloomiest days of cricket in Pakistan saw the Sri Lankan team
attacked by terrorists on their way to the Gaddafi Stadium. On March 03,
2009, five Sri Lankan players were injured in a terror attack when they
were heading towards the Gaddafi Stadium on the third day of an
ongoing test match.
The tour was cancelled and Pakistan’s status as a host nation came under
serious doubts, which eventually led to the absence of cricket for a long
time. PCB yet againsuffered a huge loss of Rs. 208 million.

2010-13 – No Cricket:-
Pakistani players were forced to face exile and play cricket away from
home following the attacks in March 2009. Pakistani stadiums stayed
emptyfor a long time.
2013 – Afghanistan Visits Pakistan:-
Finally, some there was some respite for cricket fans as Afghanistan
national team visited Pakistan to play limited over cricket against
regionalteamsand PakistanA inFebruary2013.
2015 – International Cricket Returns to Pakistan But
…
Team Zimbabwe finally said yes to a limited over cricket series in Lahore in 2015,
which spurred hope among the cricket fans. It was the first time after 2009 that a
test-playing nation had decided to visit Pakistan for a T20I and ODI series.
2016 – Pakistan Tops the Test Rankings and PSL:-
Although it has no direct connection with the cricket revival in
Pakistan, the message was given out loud to the cricketing communities
that you cannot keep Pakistan away from cricket and cricket away from
Pakistan.
PSL:-
The HBL PSL cricket league has put the cricket action from the country
back on the map. Boasting of international players and a league like
format, the tournament took place in three stages, which was played in
Dubai and Sharjah and 3 match in pakistan. The teams representing five
major cities – Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, Karachi, Multan and Lahore
took part in the competition.1 3
2017 – The Year it All Happened:-
First, the successful hosting of Pakistan Super League 2 Final, then the
Champions Trophy triumph and then the combined efforts of PCB, Giles
Clark and Andy Flower madesure that Pakistangot what it deserved.
World XI tour:-
The long drought was put to an end when ICC announced the World XI
tour to Pakistan in September. Each of the players who’ve come to
Pakistan know that they’re playing for more than just cricket. And this
was just the start, more teams, including Sri Lanka and West Indies have
also decided to support Pakistanin the hour of need.
Some matches of the PSL Season 3 are also expected to be played in
Pakistannext year.1 4

Conclusion:-
There is no doubt that the Pakistan cricket team has always comprised of
a bunch of special and talented players but at the same time they have let
themselves down in front of their nation because of matters such as spot
fixing. It is time that the team realizes the importance the game holds for
the country and try to maintain the integrity of the game and the nation's
pride.1 5

  • 2. 2 | P a g e Background:- Cricket in Pakistan has a history predating the creation of the country in 1947. The first ever international cricket match in Karachi was held on 22 November 1935 between Sindh and Australian cricket teams. The match wasseen by 5,000 Karachiites After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, and the establishment of the separate nation state of Pakistan, cricket in the country developed steadily and Pakistan was given the Test Match status at a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference at Lord's Cricket Ground on 28 July 1952 following recommendation by India, which, being the successor state of the British Raj, did not have to go through such a process. Pakistan's first Test match was played in Delhi in October 1952 as part of a five Test series which India won 2–1. Pakistan made their first tour of England in 1954 and drew the series 1–1 after a memorable victory at The Oval in which fast bowler Fazal Mahmood took 12 wickets. Pakistan's first home Test match was in Dacca in January 1955 against India, after which four more Test matches were played in Bahawalpur, Lahore, Peshawar and Karachi (all five matches in the series were drawn, the first such occurrenceintest history).1 Introduction:- Cricket is no less than a religion for the people of Pakistan. It is the sport which creates magical unity in its people and ignites a sense of patriotism which no other sport or event ever can. Although hockey is the national sport of Pakistan, Cricket continues to be the most loved and popular sports. The members of the Pakistan cricket team are seen as heroes by their fans and people love them more than they love any politicianor leader.2 Cricket is the most popular sport in Pakistan. Almost all districts and neighborhoods in Pakistan have a cricket team and people start playing from a young age. International Test and one-day matches are played between the Pakistan national cricket team and foreign opponents regularly. Women's cricket is also very popular, with Kiran Baluch holds the current record of the highest score in a women's test match with her 1 Wikipedia, s.v. • 5. 5 | P a g e Under Misbah Ul Haq:- After Amir, Asif and Butt were dismissed, Pakistan made Misbah ul Haq the new captain of Pakistan. In subsequent series against South Africa in the UAE he led Pakistan in tests. After resignation of Shahid Afridi as test captain and suspension of Salman Butt due to spot-fixing scandal, Misbah was preferred over Younus Khan, Mohammad Yousuf and KamranAkmalas captain. One of the most biggest moment for Pakistan under Misbah's captaincy was when they whitewashed England, the then no.1 side, who toured UAE in early 2012. Another greatest performance from Pakistan is when they whitewashed the touring Australians.Pakistan won the matches by 221 runs and 356 runs. The win in the second Test was their highest winning margin against any opposition in their history. Also in the same match, Misbah equaled the then fastest Test match century off 56 deliveries. This modification of the tennis ball gives it greater weight, speed and distance while still being easier to play with than the conventional cricket ball. The variation was pioneered in Karachi, Pakistan and is credited with Pakistan's famous production of fast bowlers as children are brought up playing the game using a tape ball in which various skills are developed. Running and organised by the Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) which is affiliated with the World Blind Cricket Council (WBCC). The team participates in One Day International and Twenty20 International cricket matches10 Pakistan women's cricket team:- The Pakistan women's cricket team has a much lower profile than the men's team. For all national women's cricket teams, the female players are paid much less their male counterparts and the women's teams do not receive as much popular support or recognition as the men's team. The team played it first match during 1997, when it was on tour of New Zealand and Australia and were invited to the World Cup later that year and in the Women'sAsia Cup during 2005 theteam camethird place. India–Pakistan cricket rivalry:- The India–Pakistan cricket rivalry is one of the most intense sports rivalries in the world. The arch-rival relations between the two nations, resulting from the extensive communal violence and conflict that marked the Partition of British India into India and Pakistan in 1947 and the subsequent Kashmir conflict, laid the foundations for the emergence of an intense sporting rivalry between the two nations who had erstwhile shared a commoncricketing heritage. The first Test series between the two teams took place in 1951–52, when Pakistan toured India. India toured Pakistan for the first time in 1954- 55. Between 1962 and 1977, no cricket was played between the two countries owing to two major wars in 1965 and 1971. The 1999 Kargil War and the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks also interrupt cricketing ties betweenthe two nations. The growth of large expatriate populations from India and Pakistan across the world led to neutral states like the United Arab Emirates and Canada hosting several bilateral and multilateral ODI series involving 9 Wikipedia, s.v. First-class cricket was already established in the country as many clubs and local associations had previously been part of the Indiancricket scene. Matches were played on an ad hoc basis in the 1947–48 and 1948–49 seasons before Pakistan's Board of Cricket Control (BCCP) was established on 1 May 1949. Games continued to be few and far between for several seasons untila nationalchampionship beganin1953. 1951 to 1960 Pakistan's debut in Test cricket:- In October to December 1952, Pakistan's Test debut was a five-match series in India, the matches played at New Delhi, Lucknow, Bombay, Madras and Calcutta. After India had won the First Test by an innings, Pakistan won the Second Test by an innings thanks to Fazal Mahmood who took 5–52 and 7–42. India won the Third Test and the other two were drawn. 1961 to 1970 National championships:- The Qaid-i-Azam Trophy was launched in the 1953–54 season as Pakistan's national championship. The first winner was Bahawalpur. The outstanding player in the inaugural season was the great opening batsman Hanif Mohammed who scored 513 runs at an average of 128.25 with a highest score of 174. 1971 to 1985:- In 1970, the Ayub Trophy was rebranded as the BCCP Trophy and converted from a knockout tournament to a mini-league format whereby teams qualified for a semi-final stage by winning one of four qualifying groups. The competition's name changed again in 1973 to BCCP Patron's Trophy. 11 TIM WIGMORE,” India, Pakistan and Something Deeper Than Cricket,”New York Times, June 4 2017, https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/04/sports/india-pakistan-cricket.html

The Indian team also stopped visiting Pakistan after the Mumbai attacks in November 2008. The PakistanCricket Board had toface a loss of Rs. 336 million in 2008-09. 2009 – Attacks on Sri Lankan Cricket Team:- On a day perfect for test match cricket, everything happened, but cricket – the gloomiest days of cricket in Pakistan saw the Sri Lankan team attacked by terrorists on their way to the Gaddafi Stadium. On March 03, 2009, five Sri Lankan players were injured in a terror attack when they were heading towards the Gaddafi Stadium on the third day of an ongoing test match. The tour was cancelled and Pakistan’s status as a host nation came under serious doubts, which eventually led to the absence of cricket for a long time. PCB yet againsuffered a huge loss of Rs. 208 million. 12 Wikipedia, s.v.
