3. Tablet
A tablet is a pharmaceutical oral
dosage form or solid unit dosage form.
Tablets may be defined as the solid unit
dosage form of medicament or
medicaments with suitable excipients.
4. Tablet’s used in oral cavity
• Refers to the mouth.It inculdes the
lips,the lining inside the cheeks
and lips,the front two thirds of the
tongue, the upper and lower
gums,the floor of the mouth under
the tongue,the bony roof of the
mouth, and the small area behind
the wisdom teeth.
5. Types of tablet’s used in oral cavity
There are four types of tablet’s.
• Buccal tablet
• Sublingual tablet
• Troches and Lozenges tablet
• Dental cone
6. Buccal tablet
• A buccal medicine is a medicine given
between the gums and the inner lining
of the mouth cheek. This area is called
the buccal pouch. Medicine is usually
given in the buccal area when it is
needed to take effect quickly or when
the child is not conscious.
7. Advantage of buccal tablet
•Bypass first-pass metabolism
• Several dosage-form options
• Rapid onset of action with
possibility of extended release
(buccal route)
8. Disadvantage of buccal tablet
• Limited dose and volume
• May not be suitable in nausea and vomiting
• Dissolution problem in patients with dry mouth
condition
• Taste could be an issue.
9. Sublingual tablet
• Sublingual administration
involves placing a drug under
your tongue to dissolve and
absorb into your blood through
the tissue there.
10. Advantage of sublingual tablet
• Economical
• Quick termination
• First pass avoided
• Drug absorption is quick
11. Disadvantage of sublingual tablet
• Unpalable & bitter drug
• Irritation of oral mucosa
• Large quantities not given few drug are absorbed
12. Troches and Lozenges Tablet

for placing them in the empty
sackets after tooth extraction
.They prevent multiplication of
bacteria in the socket
.Thet may contain antibiotic &
antiseptic
