5. Leadership in the 21st century is about:
1. Understanding your calling:
•Why you are called?
•What are you call to do?
•What is expected of you?
This implies you have to understand the
roles, responsibilities, demand and authority
associated with the call.
2. Bearing fruit that endures: John 15:16

6. LEADERSHIP is about understanding the people you lead.
• their psychological make up
• Their culture (youthful IF THEY ARE YOUTH)
• Their emotion & physic
You need to feel and understand their pain (empty
stomach), the uncertainty of homelessness (single
parenting), the hostile environment they find themselves,
the tension of disagreement, the burn of betrayal ETC
It is only by this that you can help them experience
the joy of friendship. Help them go through problems
(worst) in life. Provide hope. Be a wonderful counsellor, a
companion and patiently listen to their concern with insight
and care.
7. ISSUES & CHALLENGES

and attitude to lead in the 21st century?
• Do we understand and appreciate the tools we are to
use in the 21st century leadership?
• How are we planning to use the tools (if we understand
& appreciate) in the 21st century leadership?
• Do we appreciate the task of leading in the 21st century?
• What qualities do you think a 21st century Christian
leader need to be effective?
Questions for pondering
16. CONCLUSION
Leadership in the 21st century is just like fishing. No wonder
Jesus said “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men”
(Matt 4:19). It is important to note that not less than seven of
Jesus Christ’s disciples were fishermen (Matt. 4:18-22; Mark
1:16-20; Luke 5:1-11 & John 21:1-5). We can therefore learn
from fishermen how they equip one another (especially, new
persons) for fishing. To lead in the 21st century as Christian
leaders, we have to start equipping ourselves with tools such
as prayers, personal devotion, study of the word of God,
communication skills, self-control, commitment among others.
Through gradual and conscious effort, we would be the
Christian leaders Christ want us to be.
