3. Rough plot synopsis/idea
• Detective themed drama
• Main character is a detective who has a negative,
unmotivational mood after a run of unsuccessful events
• Discovers a new case that could lift his mood, however finds
out a prime suspect is someone the main character is friendly
with, sees every day, good friends.
• He must then take the risk which could put that friendship in
peril
• A redemption arc/disillusionment arc type story.
4. Characters/character ideas
• Main character (detective) is visibly unhappy and is mean to those
around him. Redemption arc, this case makes him realise his
personality and it helps him to improve. Could be that he presents, or
tries to present, a more positive image of himself, and then non-
diagetic narration from the character tells us how he really feels. His
unhappiness has almost a comedic nature to it
• The opposite occurs with the suspect, whose relationship with the
main character and those around him deteriorates as he descends into
crime. Creates the protagonist/antagonist battle and it helps the main
character to improve
• Perhaps also an assistant to the detective, who the main character
enjoys teasing, audience side with him
• To balance out, perhaps a no-nonsense, tough superior to the
detective, who in the long run helps him to improve as a person
• Potentially a millennial type secretary who is more interested in social
media than her job
5. Opening sequence
• Opening is a shot of the main character, in an office scene
• Reveal of the crime on a TV or in a newspaper placed on his
desk, with a sketch of the suspect (who the detective
recognises)
• Opening title with names of actors
• Realisation that he recognises the face takes the detective out
of his office and into a different location
• Perhaps an awkward run in with the suspect, and the
detective is shocked into saying nothing about his potential
crime.
• Then returns to his office, and discusses the event with
everyone else
6. Branding
• A detective style font, maybe a typewriter font like Courier.
• Red, white and black colour scheme.
• The website would match this typewriter theme, kept
relatively simple.
Idea for the show title image style,
perhaps with blood splatters or
something similar
7. What will my opening aim to
achieve?
• Hopefully my drama opening will be a mix of drama, to fit the
TV drama brief, but also with a hint of comedy or mildly
comedic scenes which would help retain the viewing of the
‘fun loving 16-25 audience’
• I would also aim to clearly establish the roles and personalities
of the characters so that from the first 3 minutes the audience
know what is happening.
8. What will my website design
aim to achieve?
• Similar to the Killling Eve website I analysed, I think a large header front and
centre featuring the title art would be great, with the main characters
surrounding it
• A fun feature I could add is a character screen where you could look at
profiles for all the characters (perhaps in a detective file theme), vaguely
similar to the islanders tab on the Love Island website.
I would take similarities
from the Love Island
website, for example the
large image header
