Discount means reducing the price or value of an item from the regular price. The amount of discount is calculated by subtracting the sale price from the regular price. If the discount is given as a percentage, the amount of discount is calculated by multiplying the regular price by the discount rate.
2. Definition Of Discount
Discount means reducing the price or value of an object or
item.
Regular price minus Sale price gives the amount of discount.
If the discount is given in percent, then the amount of discount
can be found by using the formula,
Amount of Discount = Regular Price × Rate of Discount.
3. Example
Amar bought the Mobile, which costs Rs.27000. But he was given a discount of Rs.
3000.
Cost at which Amar bought the Mobile
= Original cost of the Mobile - Discount offered on the Mobile
= 27000 - 3000 = 24000
So, Amar paid Rs. 24000 for the Mobile after discount.
4. Example
The regular price of a jacket was 500 Rs. A discount of 10% was marked on it. Find
the price of the jacket after the discount.
Step 1: Discount on the jacket = 10% of Rs. 500
Step 2: 10% =
10
100
= 0.1 [Write the percent as a decimal.]
Step 3: 10% of 500 = 0.1 × 500 = 50 [Multiply.]
Step 4: Price of the jacket after discount = regular price of the jacket - discount = 500
- 50= Rs. 450
Step 5: So, price of the jacket after discount is Rs. 450.
