State Law Enforcement Officer, First Sergeant (Supervisor) South CAROLINA DEPARTMENTOF NATURAL RESOURCES 1995-Present
Hired as a SCDNR Law Enforcement Conservation Officer and assigned to Abbeville County, SC.
In October 2000, I was promoted to supervisethe operation of the Law Enforcement Hunter/Boater Education section in 7 counti es.
I was responsiblefor teachingHunter and Boater Education throughout my region and managinga network of volunteers and school
teachers to make sure the programs were being offered with adequate course availability and that program standards were being
maintained. Job duties required frequent public presentations to civic and youth groups. I held dozens of shotgun, rifle,and archery
ranges each year for the Hunter Education classes in my area. During my time as Hunter Education Regional Coordinator I also
supervised the SCDNR Pickens Gun Range. This range has over 10,000 visitors each year and includes a rifle, pistol, shotgun and an
archery range.
In June 2014 I was promoted to First Sergeant and became the SCDNR Outreach Coordinator. The job duties of the Outreach
Coordinator areas follows:
▪ Take One Make One Coordinator which is a Youth firsttime hunting mentoring programaimed and recruitingand offering
kids with an opportunity to hunt for the firsttime.
▪ South CarolinaNational Archery in the Schools ProgramCoordinator. Responsiblefor recruitingnew schools into the
program, trainingall new teachers as Basic Archery Instructors,setup statewide regional archery tournament(s) and
manage those tournaments. Set up and manage the states 3 day NASP State Tournament each year with over 1,000 kids
participating.
▪ Scholastic Clay TargetSports Coordinator. Help build the newest SCDNR shootingsports programand implement its
objectives within the firstyear. I am responsiblefor buildingnewschool shootingteams, trainingshotgun coaches,holding
multipleskeet, trap and sportingclay competitions for middle school and high schools ageyouth.
With all three of the above programs I have to submityearly budgets which are comprised of various federal grants. I submi tmonthly
and yearly reports to showthe SCDNR complianceto these grants. I superviseTake One Make One Hunt Coordinators and a Shooting
Sports Coordinator.
