ACTIVITIES
Prayer:
The teacher will ask a student to lead the prayer.

Attendance:
The teacher will look on the seat plan to check who are not
present. “Very Good Class because everyone is present
today!”

The teacher will remind the rules to be followed during class

The teacher will group the students into 4 groups, and
follow the assigned activity.
The teacher will give each group a word puzzle. Each
group will trace the given word. They can encircle the
word they found, connect it with a line or highlight.

HISTORY OF BASKETBALL
The history of basketball began with its invention in 1891 in
Springfield, Massachusetts.
DR. JAMES NAISMITH
A Canadian physical educator and sports coach at the Young
Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Training College in Springfield
Massachusetts.
To keep his students active during winter.
THE FIRST BALL
The very first ball that was used was a soccer ball.
In 1894, Naismith called A.G. Spalding and Bros. to create a ball
for the basketball game. The company came up with a leather ball
which was held together with laces.
THE FIRST BASKET
The first basket that were used were two peach baskets that were
hung from the balcony of the gym.
By 1906, the peach baskets were replaced by metal baskets with
holes in the bottom.
In 1913, a hoop with a net was invented so the ball could fall freely.
THE FIRST BACKBOARD
In 1893 the first backboard was constructed out of the wire mesh
and then wood.

The students will be given instructions to design a poster
about basketball history by the teacher. The students have
ten minutes to make anything.
