SUMMARY:
I am an effective communicator and have collaboratively worked with process engineers, operators and management teams to establish root
cause of process issues and sustainable resolutions. I’ve also worked with operational areas to create solutions that will effectively make
improvements in communicating critical operating parameters in DCS. I am approachable, tactful and willing to take on responsibility.
EXPERIENCE:
WestRock, Evadale, TX Process Engineer/Controls Co-op May 2015 – August 2015
Six sigma coat weight reduction project for a projected US$1.5M in savings per annum
Determined root cause of sheet break by analyzing deculator outflows using HONEYWELL pressure loops and OSI PI data historian
PAPER MACHINE RECOMISSIONING PROJECT:
- Assisted mentor with creating Honeywell controls for stock furnish [Stock preparation system] to headbox
- Assisted with editing CL code
- Remained closely involved with the check-out process for DCS controlled instrumentation
- Created PI pages for operations and process understanding of the Stock furnish, Approach, Dye and Steam Systems
MeadWestvaco, Evadale, TX Process Controls Co-op May 2014 – December 2014
Defined control parameters for level in Digester and Impregnation vessels in the Fiber Line for paper production using IMC-Based PID control
models to decrease standard deviation from set point from 14.63 to 3.29 and 13.42 to 2.58, respectively
Analyzed OSI Pi Historian software to define loop tuning parameters and follow process variations
Tuned various Honeywell DCS loops for improved process operations such as paper machines headbox level control
Assisted mentor with reconfiguring Honeywell screen room ratio controls in DCS to reduce fiber loss and stock backflow
Assisted with making hardware changes to Honeywell Universal Stations
Deciphered P&IDs and instrumentation loops for fluid and thermodynamic systems to recommend process improvement strategies
Performed Statistical Process Controls in MATLAB to determine contributing factors to noisy signals of Digester level
Optimized performance of Weak Wash pumps by analyzing fluid flow and pump curves, and recommending changes to impeller diameters
to better control green liquor density and conductivity
Re-engineered a direct steam injection system to troubleshoot nozzle corrosion issues and automatic temperature of caustic green liquor
Performed instrumentation calibration and developed calibration manual for Kappa Analyzer by first understanding the ‘chip cooking’
process, running lab tests on samples and analyzing data to recommend calibration sets for the mill’s pulp and paper processes
Effectively communicated improvement strategies to operators and operations management team to ensure efforts are followed through
Communicated with equipment vendors such as Metso to troubleshoot and improve various equipment and mill processes
iMagine-it-Tech, Chicago, IL Engineering Designer September 2012 – December 2012
Designed new wheelchair equipment for easier transport and transfer of disabled individuals during flight
Participated in weekly meetings with 9 other team members to exchange ideas and build a sense of community and team spirit
Completed weekly assignments given by company owner to foster time management skills
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Proficient in MATLAB, PI Process Book data historian, Microsoft: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Autodesk Inventor 2015
Basic proficiency in Pro-E, LabView and Hypermesh for Finite Element Analysis
Basic knowledge with navigating through Honeywell DCS systems and reading Metso and Honeywell Controls map
PROJECTS:
Airplane Wheelchair that eliminates the manual transfer of the disabled by flight attendants on Southwest’s Boeing 700-737
- Idea eliminates the need for the flight attendants to transfer the disabled passenger from the wheelchair to the airplane seat.
- Designed and fabricated a wheelchair that locks into airline seat frame and requires no change to the original airline seat
Sustainable Foam Core Chair Design:
- Individually designed and constructed solely from 3 12”x16” foam core sheets (no glue, bolts, hinges etc).
- Weighed less than 450g and repeatedly sustained the weight of an 80kg adult by using the basic principles of mechanics and statics.
- Autodesk Inventor software and laser cutter were used to produce engineering drawings and prototype.
Bio-Inspired Ladybug Robot:
- 3 person team designed and constructed ladybug robot
- Movement facilitated by the use of servos controlled by signals from an arduino board based on gait plots for a ladybug’s movements.
3M Command Hook design improvement:
- 3 person team replicated the common Command Hook using Pro-E, gathered user ratings and ran various functionality tests
- Loading conditions were simulated using Hypermesh and common points of failure were noted
- Command Hook was redesigned to make stronger using similar material mass thus keeping production cost constant
PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS/ ACTIVITIES:
Society of Women Engineers-IIT chapter President June 2013– May 2014
Recruited and provided professional development opportunities for female undergraduate, graduate and PhD students at IIT
Collectively planned annual activities with executive members
