Case Study
The former Combination Club
Cheswick, Bristol
Creating 95 luxury homes for Redrow (SW) Ltd at Stanley Park
The Stanley Park development on the site of the former Combination Club in Stoke Gifford, Bristol, is a multi-phase
scheme in which we are proud to be working with Redrow (SW) Ltd, providing the sub- and superstructure design for
95 four- and five-bedroom homes, some with standalone garages and some with garages built at ground level under
the dwelling.
Described by Redrow as ‘setting a new benchmark in high quality living’, these two- to three-storey homes will be
constructed using loadbearing masonry walls, suspended pre-cast concrete beam and block ground floors, timber and
precast concrete plank first and second floors and timber trussed rafter roofs.
Many of the designs were non-standard, so our team worked especially closely with the client and architect to ensure
the briefs were met in full, solving issues arising from the bespoke design, while recognising the need to stick to both
the schedule and budget.
PRO Structures also designed the specialised man access covers for the site’s large storm water attenuation culverts,
which had to be located under the highways in some cases. Designing for buried structures under highways is
extremely complex, requiring multiple checks and sign-offs by the Highway Authority, so our ability to take on this
aspect and obtain the necessary approvals enabled us to add real value to our work for the client.
PRO Structures’ work involved:
Sub- and superstructure design
Civil engineering input for access to storm water attenuation culverts
The new development, marketed as Stanley Park, is due for completion in early 2016.
