BASKETBALL
DEFINITION OF
BASKETBALL
Basketball is a game
played between two
teams of five players
each on a rectangular
court, usually indoors.
Each team tries to score by
tossing the ball through the
opponent's goal, an
elevated horizontal hoop
and net called a basket.
HISTORY OF BASKETBALL
- Massachusetts by Canadian physical education instructor James
The history of basketball began with its invention in 1891 in
Springfield, Naismith as a less injury-prone sport than
football. Naismith was a 31-year old graduate student when
he created the indoor sport to keep athletes indoors during the
winters.
- Using a soccer ball, two peach baskets placed 10 feet up
in the air, nine players on each team, and a set of 13 basic
rules, Dr. Naismith invented the game of “basket ball." The
first game was played on December 21, 1891. Initially, players
could only advance the ball by passing it.
HOW TO PLAY
BASKETBALL?
• Only five players per team on the
court.
• Score more than your opponent to
win.
• Score within the shot clock.
• Dribbling advances the ball.
• The offense has five seconds to
inbound the ball.
• The offense must advance the ball.
• Ball and ballhandler must remain
inbounds.
EQUIPMENT IN BASKETBALL/SAFETY PRECAUTION
1. Basketball (MOLTEN)
- Basketball is a tool that
must be in the game of
basketball. Imagine what
would happen if the game of
basketball was played without
a ball, strange isn’t it? Of
course. Based on the
provisions made by FIBA, the
basketball criteria that meet
the standards include:
• The size of the ball must
match the conditions of the
game. The EQUIPMENT IN
BASKETBALL/SAFETY
PRECAUTION
• sizes of basketball that suit
the class are:
• Ball size 7 for ages 14 up to
boy seniors
• Ball size 6 for ages 14 up to
girl seniors
• Ball size 5 for boys and girls
aged 13 and under
EQUIPMENT IN BASKETBALL/SAFETY PRECAUTION
2. Basketball Shoes
- Equipment that is no less important is basketball shoes. The
thing that distinguishes basketball shoes from other shoes is their
shape which is slightly higher at the ankle, which aims to protect
the ankle from the risk of an ankle injury.
3. Player Uniforms
- Each basketball player from each team must wear a uniform so
that when the game takes place, there will be a difference between
teammates and opponents. Besides that, uniforms will also make
the team more solid and look attractive when playing.
EQUIPMENT IN BASKETBALL/SAFETY PRECAUTION
4. Knee Pads
• A Knee-pad is an elastic cloth
that is made to keep the parts
of the body that are
experiencing movement from
being injured, as a result of
the wrong position during the
movement. Generally,
basketball players use the pads
on the knees, ankles, and
elbows.
5. Basketball Ring
• The basket consists of a ring
and a net. The rings were
made of hard iron and the
diameter of the rings was 45
centimeters. The ring height is
305 centimeters from the floor
surface and is installed on the
surface of the basketball board
with a distance of 15
centimeters. Meanwhile, the
net is hung from the ring, with
a net length of 40 centimeters.
SKILLS THAT DEVELOPED IN PLAYING BASKETBALL
*AGILITY
- Agility is defined as the ability to accelerate, decelerate, and change
direction quickly while maintaining good body control. Basketball
is not played in a straight line, but instead requires constant changes of
direction. Therefore, acceleration is an extremely important aspect of
agility.
*SPEED
- You make the catch and speed dribble, accelerating toward the
other team's basket until you hit the free throw line, where you have
to stop on a dime and pull up for an easy 15-footer. That's basketball
speed
SKILLS THAT DEVELOPED IN PLAYING BASKETBALL
*TEAMWORK
- Teamwork can be defined as the ability of team members
to work together, communicate effectively, anticipate
and meet each other's demands, and inspire
confidence, resulting in a coordinated collective action.
*STRENGTH
- Strengths are tasks or actions you can do well. These
include knowledge, proficiencies, skills, and talents. People
use their traits and abilities to complete work, relate with
others, and achieve goals.
Shooting, dribbling, defending, rebounding,
and passing are among the most significant
abilities in the game of basketball. Aside from
these basketball-specific talents, agility,
acrobatic ability, speed, and endurance are all
valuable assets in the game.
