This document introduces HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), the basic building block for webpages. HTML uses tags to define and structure the content of a web page. There are two types of tags - paired tags which have opening and closing tags, and self-closing tags which only have an opening tag. 3. HTML
HTML stands for “Hyper Text Markup Language”
Hypertext refers to the links that connects one web page to another.
Markup Language is set of Markup tags.
4. TAGS There are two types of tags :
1) Paired tag : Tag which has
both opening and closing tag is
called paired tag. Also known as
Container element.
For example : <html></html>
2) Self-Closing tag : The tag
which is not paired. It only has a
opening tag. Also known as
Singleton tag and Empty element.
For example :<Br>
Tags are the keywords of Html that defines how the web
page will be display in the browser.
They have angle bracket sign “<>”.
Syntax: <tag name> string </tag name> .
<> this is called the opening tag and </> this called the closing
tag.
5. Basic Structure of HTML document
◦ HTML tag : also known as root element. It describe the Html web page
that is to be viewed by the web browser. Everything Html related is
nested inside this tag. This means all of our tags will be located between
<html> </html>
◦ Head tag : it defines the header section of the page.
◦ Title tag : it is used to give the title to the page which is displayed on the
top of the window.
◦ Body tag : this tag contains all the instructions that are used to display
on the browser. This section contains all the text, link, graphics.
