5. Let us read a story about
having word of honor.
6. A Promise Fulfilled
One morning, Joshua’s
English Teacher, Ms.
Manansala, announced that
there would be a declamation
contest. She encouraged all
her pupils to join.
7. She then turned to Joshua
and said, “You have a well-
modulated voice, Joshua. You’re
also good at memorizing and
expressing yourself. You would
make a good contestant in
declamation contest. What do you
think? Would you like to join the
contest?”
8. Joshua replied, “I would
love to, Ma’am. Thank you for
believing in me. I promise to
do my best. I will practice
every day.”
9. When Joshua got home, he
started memorizing his
declamation piece. He also
asked help from his father.
Every day after class, Joshua
practiced. He never
complained even if he felt
tired.
10. He would always say, “I
will do my best because I
promised Ms. Manansala and
our class. I will not
disappoint them and my
parents, too.”
11. The day of the contest
came. Joshua did very well
in the contest. He did
everything that his father
and teacher taught him.
12. When it was time to
announce the winner, the
emcee said, “The first place
goes to Joshua Santos!”
13. Everyone was very happy,
especially Joshua. He smiled
to his parents and teacher. He
was happy that he was able to
keep his promise to do his
best.
