5. The Temptation of Jesus
( A story taken from Matthew 4:1-11)
After Jesus was
baptized in the Jordan
River by his cousin, John,
he was led by the Holy
Spirit into the desert to fast
and pray.
6. While he was in the desert,
he was tempted by the devil.
For forty days and nights, he
did not eat. He was very
hungry. The devil tempted
him and said, “If you are the
Son of God, change these
stones into bread.”
7. Jesus answered, “It is
written that man does
not live on bread alone,
but on every word that
comes from the mouth of
God.”
8. The devil took him to the highest
point of the temple and said, “If
you are the Son of God, throw
yourself down. For it is written
that God will command His
angels to protect you so that
even your foot will not touch a
stone.”
9. Jesus answered him, “It is also
written, “Do not test the Lord,
your God.”
Next, the devil took Jesus
to a very high mountain and
showed him all the kingdoms
of the world and their richness.
10. This time, Jesus said to the
devil, “ Away from me Satan! For
it is written, “Worship the Lord,
your God, and only to Him you
give your service, “
Finally, the devil left him
and the angels came and served
him.
