Franciacorta DOCG is a sparkling wine produced in the Province of Brescia in Lombardy, Italy using the traditional method similar to Champagne. The grapes used must be grown within the delimited Franciacorta territory between Lake Iseo and Brescia. While still wines from the region date back to ancient times, the name Franciacorta was not used until 1957 and it was not until 1961 that the first sparkling wine was produced. In 1995 Franciacorta was granted DOCG status exclusively for its sparkling wines made using the traditional method from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Blanc grapes grown in vineyards with mineral-rich, calcareous gravel
