To Whom It May Concern:
I’m writing to recommend Rich Shaw for the engineering role he’s pursuing with your company.
I was lucky enough to work with Rich during his time running the engineering team with Arx Pax
Labs, and he was one of the major reasons for the engineering team’s success.
Rich is a strong leader, shows a tremendous amount of compassion for his team but is excellent
at driving his employees to meet schedule with quality work. One of his major strengths is
leading design reviews and pushing his team to consider a variety of ways to solve a problem.
That skill was of particular use to me, as the VP of Sales and Business Development. I
managed all of our customer engagements, every one of which involved a complex technical
use case of our technology. I brought Rich in to all of my customer engineering engagements,
and Rich was always able to distill a complex use case into a finite set of deliverables that could
prove value to the customer. This was harder than you think—the number of variables with
our technology was enormous. But Rich became a valuable resource to my customers and won
them over with his patience, humor and technical acumen.
Rich also has a broad set of technical expertise, including original design, validation, test
development and manufacturing flow. He has a natural curiosity that enables him to continue
learning about new technologies, and is a quick study in areas that he has limited expertise.
As a startup in an unexplored area of magnetic levitation, Rich was thrown into the fire on a
daily basis and inevitably had answers that the engineering team needed when trying to define
a scope‐of‐work for a new area of IP.
Rich has a tremendous work ethic – he was always the first to arrive and the last to leave – and
is relentlessly positive in the face of difficult circumstances. I couldn’t recommend him more
highly.
I would be happy to discuss Rich with anyone on your staff who wants to understand more
about his background. Thanks in advance for your consideration.
