Michael Myers has returned after 20 years to hunt down Laurie Strode, who is now living under a new name at a private school with her son. The opening sequence introduces the film's title against a light vs dark backdrop, establishes it is set on Halloween, and shows Laurie discovering a boy dead at the school, indicating Michael has arrived. Shots introduce the isolated school setting and call back to the Halloween franchise through a masked character, putting the audience on edge for what is to come between Laurie and Michael.

2. Titles There are a long list of
titles in this opening
sequence. The titles here
firstly start with the
production companies,
lead cast, main title to a
continuation of cast.
The font is a sharp white
in Sigma one font. clearly
visible for the audience to
see and connotes the
genre.
3. More titles
To a special
guest/star,
casting director,
costume
designer,
associate
producer,
character theme
song by, music
by, additional
music, film
editor,
production
designer.
4. Furthermore titles
DOP, co executive and
executive producers,
produced by, created by,
screenplay by , and the
director is revealed last.
5. Narrative
The narrative is non binary with a
good vs evil. Clearly the two men in
this opening are the good guys with
the killer the bad guy.
It also holds a linear narrative as it
is continuing a story but is a new
chapter starting 20 years later.
6. Lighting Lighting across both
characters faces in a
dark room suggests the
characters have good
intentions and are good.
The rest of the lighting
throughout the opening
tends to be dim
,suggesting what genre
this is. (horror)
7. Lighting
A complete blacked out room
with the door open slightly with
little light showing the
woman(victim).
From this you can connote the
Dark(evil) vs Light(good) with
the use of lighting.
8. Shots
Medium shot - shows two
characters in suits, that
suggest they have
authority/power.
Medium Close up- Shows
that this character holds the
most authority with brown
coat and glasses, and with
the background is
investigating.
9. Shots
This is the first shot without titles,
showing light of the knife. you can
infer that this is a slasher film.
Medium Close up-shows what time
of year(halloween) , this connotes
to the audience what franchise of
slasher this is. (Halloween-Michael
myers- killer with knife)
10. Shots
Long shot- Shows location
which is ideal for a
slasher(isolated) to show that
there's no one there to help in
a suburban town. Titles give
information to exact location.
This wide shot shows a dull looking
house with closed curtains and
windows, which also shows the
isolation.
We also find out the date of this
narrative being set.
Worms eye view- white
shoes(innocence/victim)
stepping onto broken glass
this connotes danger.
11. Shots
Over the shoulder shot shows the other
character dressed as jason Vorhees (Friday
13th)another iconic slasher. This is a reminder
to the audience of what kind of horror it is.
Also a red herring, as the music is used to
believe the woman is about to be killed and
she is not , it is ironic then the boy is in the
mask.
Split focus shows the tension of this part as the
boy goes into the woman's house that has
been broken into which can be very
dangerous.
12. Shots
This is a Pan shot, that
makes the shot
continuous and allows
the audience to see
everything in this
scene(mise en scene),
to which a pan follows
the action too, taking
the audience with them.
13. Medium wide shot of the woman
searching into the house , with
low lighting and a dim lit hand
torch.
Medium close up to catch her
reaction horrified and scared,
after finding the boy dead,
knowing she too is now in great
danger.
14. Editing
The main title fades in
with (H20) fading in the
background, becoming
more clearer.
the background then
comes in with colour,
white at the top and
orange at the bottom. This
can be connoted as good
(white) vs evil(orange)
which also represents
halloween.
15. Editing
The Production name logo
fades in with light blue
with films underneath that
fades in aer with it , to
which it all fades out after.
16. Sound
A joyful, catchy song - Mr sandman by the Chordettes is firstly
played as the scene starts with children carving pumpkins for
halloween. This is used to trick the audience to forget they are
watching a horror. (Non-diegetic)
children talking (diegetic and ambient)
Sound of Knife (hyper real)
Orchestral music plays throughout after mr sandman and is
chilling and sharp sounds that includes the ringing of bells that is
used to connote danger coming.
The theme tune is played as the car is leaving the house, this
identifies what slasher this is to the audience and the departure
of the killer with more story to come, this leaves us hooked in to
watch what happens next. (sound bridge)
