5. Personal Area Networks (PANs)
A personal area
network, or PAN, is
a computer network that
enables communication
between computer
devices near a person.
PANs can be wired, such
as USB or FireWire, or
they can be wireless, such
as infrared, ZigBee,
Bluetooth and ultra
wideband, or UWB.
6. • Wired PANs: USB or FireWire,
• Wireless PAN:
– Infrared (430 THz down to 300 GHz). ,
– ZigBee (902-928 MHz),
– Bluetooth 2.4 GHz
– and ultrawideband , or UWB (lesser of 500 MHz) .
• The range of a PAN typically is a few meters.
Examples of wireless PAN, or WPAN, devices
include cell phone headsets, wireless keyboards,
wireless mice, printers, bar code scanners and
game consoles.
7. Wireless Local Area Networks
(WLANs) IEEE 802.11
Wireless
LAN or Wireless
Local AreaNetwork
is a term to refer to
a Local
Area Network that
does not need cables
to connect the
different devices.
Instead, radio waves
and IEEE 802.11 are
used to communicate
in 900MHz
10. Wide Area Network (WAN)
A wireless wide
area network
(WWAN) is a
specific type of
network that sends
wireless signals
beyond a single
building or
property.
21. IP based Network
• Common IP supports multiple radio access
networks
• Board range of mobile voice, data and
multimedia services
• IP based protocols is used for mobility
between different radio systems
22. • First wave mobile data services:
– Text Based instant Message
• Second wave mobile data services:
– Low Speed Mobile Internet Services
– i-mode
• Third wave mobile data services:
– High Speed Mobile Internet Services
