Recently there has been a massive concern in the safety of younger students, as more and
more reports of abuse and attempted abduction are being brought to light. One of the other
concerns brought about by this, is a man who was once jailed for knife-point rape of 2
students.
After his sentence of 12 years in 1990, Michael Gordon aged 52 has been recently working
at a charity organization that delivers furniture to students, as soon as this was brought to
light by Manchester evening news he left his job, whether it was because he was fired or
simply resigned is still yet unknown.
Although, we should be asking are students safe, and are the measures in place to make
sure that they can get the help they need when a situation calls for it. Also is it right that we
should know what convicted sex offenders are doing after jail time and that everything they
do should be monitored or is this a breach of privacy.
Upon asking an employer of Michael Gordon he said it was an invasion of his privacy and
that since he did his time he should be left alone. We want to know what you think on the
matter, get in touch on our website at www.EcclesRadio6.co.uk and tell us your opinion on
how students can be better protected and if privacy should really be allowed for those who
have been considered as a danger to others.
