Redwood Logistics’ customer is an international manufacturer and supplier of industrial
products to a broad range of distributor and end user markets.
BACKGROUND
In 2013, this firm approached Redwood Logistics seeking visibility and control of its
transportation network. At the time, this consisted of several formerly independent
operating companies, 26 shipping locations, and four Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
systems.
With a timeline of eight weeks and virtually no existing customer side IT resources
available, Redwood Logistics was tasked with designing and deploying a collaborative
managed transportation solution that included the integration, configuration and
nationwide implementation of a transportation management system (TMS) across all of
this company’s U.S. locations.
THE CHALLENGE
Redwood Logistics responded immediately with its experts in TMS technology, B2B
integration, logistics operations and project management, visiting customer locations
across the country to understand its unique business requirements, then designed a
sophisticated, customized solution to meet all of their needs.
Redwood Logistics applied its knowledge, relationships and technology to quickly
implement a comprehensive transportation technology platform and deploy a flexible
business process outsourcing strategy.

THE RESULTS
The initial partnership exceeded all of the customer’s goals. The company now had a
powerful TMS and flexible Managed Services solution that leveraged data to optimize
its logistics and distribution strategies. The solution produced measurable results in
Year One:
Cost Savings: In its first year, this solution reduced the company’s transportation
costs by 9.7 percent. This immediate impact on costs was particularly impressive,
given that the large-scale procurement process typically takes months.
Control: This leading manufacturer gained control over its logistics costs through
improved visibility and leveraging the data that could now be collected and
interpreted by Redwood’s experts to provide valuable information for ongoing
network planning and process improvement.
The operational results paved the way for continuous process improvement, a better
customer experience and a strong competitive edge, and served as the foundation for
a long-term partnership. Three years, nine new operating companies and five locations
later, this fast-growing enterprise still leans on Redwood Logistics for smart solutions
to support its long-term success.
Redwood’s customer realized, for the first time in its history, a single, enterprisewide view
of all transportation network data. The technology solution was delivered with unmatched
“time to value,” given the diverse systems platform and business environment.
In July 2016, the companies’ sustained partnership was recognized by Supply &
Demand Chain Executive as one of the Top 100 Great Supply Chain Projects.
